This Aussie Is Building A Front-Engined, LS-Swapped Porsche 911
This beast will be displayed and driven at several events across the country
The idea of ditching a Porsche 911’s small-capacity boxer engine for a V8 is nothing new. In fact, there are plenty of 911s out there powered by big, American V8s. However, in Australia, a V8-powered 911 is coming to life which is unlike any other we’ve ever seen.
This 996 is being overhauled by Gary Reid, the man behind a company called ShowTime. The firm runs a series of heavily modified drift cars and stunt cars, frequently appearing at select rounds of the country’s popular Supercars Championship. This is one of its most ambitious builds to date, and while it hasn’t been finished, more than 1,800 hours have been spent getting the car to this stage.
The Front-Engine, Twin-Turbo V8 Porsche 911 Is Real. And It's Absolutely Insane
The Porsche 911 has used a rear-mounted engine since the very beginning. The power plant's location is one of the car's defining aspects, because most vehicles put their mill ahead of the driver, not behind the rear axle. The setup certainly doesn't prevent the 911 from having world-beating performance, with the model's various iterations achieving countless race wins over the decades.
However, there's always room to try something different. The Australian tuners ShowTime and Repco have built a 911 around a twin-turbocharged V8 to create a 1,200-horsepower track machine. But such an engine doesn't fit in the back.
The builders call this machine the ShowTime Repco-Mod 933, which is a complicated name that doesn't do the vehicle justice. It uses the 996-generation of the Porsche 911 (the version available from 1999 through 2005 in the United States) as the starting point. However, the revisions are so extensive that the car barely resembles the stock machine. For example, there are the round headlights from later iterations of the 911.

Front-engined V8 Porsche built for stunt duty
Putting a twin-turbo V8 in a Porsche 911 is a substantial departure from the factory recipe. Putting it in the front takes things considerably further.
That’s the approach behind the ShowTime Repco-Mod 933, a heavily rebuilt Type 996 coupé unveiled at Mount Panorama ahead of the Repco Bathurst 1000. With more than 1200 horsepower (895kW) it’s destined for ShowTime’s stunt fleet.
The project is the work of ShowTime’s Gary Reid and his team, with Repco backing the build.
“I’ve always been a Porsche fan, and I love big-horsepower V8s, so the plan was simple: put a twin-turbo LS 427 in the front of a 911 Porsche, build a one-off wide-body kit, take inspiration from builds all over the world, and the result is this: the 933 Twin Turbo,” said Reid.
