Collin Sexton compared Sandro Mamukelashvili to a former NBA All-Star
Sandro Mamukelashvili was one of the standouts for the Los Angeles Lakers this preseason as he flashed the versatility that was touted when the team signed him to a lucrative contract in free agency.
Mamukelashvili can do a little bit of everything on the court, whether it be shooting, dribbling, passing or rebounding. One person who has gotten an up close look at that is Collin Sexton, who missed all of preseason with a lower leg injury. When he was watching Mamukelashvili though, it reminded him of one of his former teammates with the Cleveland Cavaliers in Kevin Love.
“I think he’s one of those [players] who can do a lot. He reminds me of like [Kevin Love] the way he can shoot the ball,” Sexton said of Mamukelashvili. “He can fill it up. He can shoot it really well, pick-and-pop, he can post up, he can pass. He reminds me a lot of K-Love when I played with him as well. It’s cool to be with someone that can pick-and-pop, but also, if he needs to go down in the paint, he can.”
Lakers Signed 6’10” Point Guard-Like Center, Their Modern Day Lamar Odom
Los Angeles Lakers fans are caught up (as usual) in NBA trade rumors, so they may be losing sight of one newcomer who has grabbed the attention of coaches and teammates lately.
In July, the Lakers signed big man Sandro Mamukelashvili to a four-year deal worth roughly $52 million, a move that came as a surprise to many. While Mamukelashvili had just wrapped up a more-than-solid season, many weren’t even sure if the 27-year-old Georgian was an upgrade over Rui Hachimura, who walked as a free agent just days earlier.
A few months and four Lakers preseason games later, many have gushed about Mamukelashvili, none more than star guard Austin Reaves, who thinks Mamukelashvili could easily play point guard.

Sandro Mamukelashvili is already attracting plenty of praise in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform. It's only been a few preseason games, but "Mamu" has shown off his array of skills offensively, much to the delight of Laker Nation, as well as his teammates.
Austin Reaves has complimented Mamu's ball-handling and playmaking abilities, noting that the big man can essentially operate as a de facto point guard when he snags a defensive rebound and pushes the ball up the floor himself … a talent that has some Lakers fans hearkening back to the days of Lamar Odom.
How expansive will Mamukelashvili's contributions be this season? Will he start a lot of games? Could he be LA's premier bench player, and possibly a Sixth Man candidate? That all remains to be seen, and much of it depends on how high Mamu can sustain his floor on the defensive side of things.
