Jason Statham's 116-Minute Sci-Fi Thriller Hit (And Biggest Film Ever) Officially Arrives on Streaming
As Jason Statham finishes up the very prolific year of 2026, his most successful movie is coming to a new streaming home. Released in 2018, this sci-fi action gem saw Statham stand against one of his biggest enemies in a genre mashup whose success was anything but predictable. Surprisingly, audiences did connect with the monster film, and it became Statham's highest-grossing film in which he was the lead, as well as one of his most rewatchable action movies.
Based on Steve Alten's novel Meg, Jon Turteltaub's sci-fi thriller The Meg follows deep-sea rescue specialist Jonas Taylor (Statham) as he's recruited to lead a mission in the Mariana Trench. A group of scientists becomes trapped deep underwater, forcing Taylor to confront the trauma of a previous mission in which he had to abandon his crew after an encounter with an unidentified sea creature. Now, the rescue diver will meet his nemesis: an ancient megalodon that has escaped, and is heading toward populated areas to feed.
Jason Statham's $529M Action Movie and It's Even Wilder Sequel Are Washing Up on a New Streaming Home
Jason Statham has gained himself quite a reputation as a hard action man in movies like The Mechanic, Mutiny, and The Beekeeper. While he clearly has a knack for punching heavies in the face and shooting down rows of mercenaries, back in 2018 he was pitted against a fearsome adversary that he couldn’t just bop on the nose – although he did give it a good go. Unlike his more gritty and grounded movies, this one needed audiences to leave their logical brains at the door and just embrace the idea of what would happen if Chief Brody in Jaws had been a bit more hands on with his fists and the shark was one that even the biggest boat would struggle to hold. For those who have not yet had the guilty pleasure of watching The Meg and its sequel, both movies will be landing on a new streaming home of Hulu on November 1.
