‘I’ve had enough’: ‘Morning Joe’ host blasts McAfee’s growing role on ‘GameDay’
With voters heading to the polls across the country Tuesday, Joe Scarborough decided there was another issue worth putting on the morning agenda.
The âMorning Joeâ panel spent more than two minutes the morning of the election discussing ESPN personality Pat McAfee, with Scarborough declaring heâd had enough of the former NFL punterâs influence on the networkâs popular college football pregame show.
âIâve just had enough of this Pat McAfee ruining âCollege GameDay,ââ Scarborough said. âI look forward to waking up on Saturday mornings and watching that. … Itâs like heâs melting down.â He added, âItâs really ESPN. I mean, they run their company the way they want to run their company, but man, it is a shame for the viewer.â

College GameDay was on the site of what turned out to be a barnburner of a game in Bloomington. Both Indiana and Minnesota hit booming 60-yard field goals toward the end of regulation before the Hoosiers eventually emerged with a 23-16 win.
While the action on the field was gripping, GameDay itself raked in some massive ratings for ESPN.
Per the network, an average of 2.5 million viewers tuned into the show during Week 9, while the show’s final 11 a.m. ET hour was watched by 3.2 million. That makes it the program’s second-highest-rated Week 9 episode. So far this season, GameDay‘s overall ratings are 4% percent higher year-over-year, ESPN said.

‘This Sort of Self-Aggrandizement Can’t Help but Run Out of Gas’ — Writer Spells Doom for ‘MrBeast Version’ of ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ Led by Pat McAfee
Pat McAfee has become one of the faces of sports media in recent years and has become a staple in ESPN’s coverage of both professional and college football. The former NFL punter has his own show, ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ and is also a regular on both ‘College GameDay’ and ‘Monday Night Countdown.’
While McAfee has been one of the most popular faces in sports media, some have wondered if there has been overexposure to McAfee on ESPN, which is starting to make his shtick go sour for many viewers.
“We’re watching the MrBeast version of ‘College GameDay,’ and it will run out of gas,” said Will Leitch of ‘The Athletic.’ “This sort of self-aggrandizement can’t help but run out of gas, and I bet McAfee runs out of it first.”
