Meet Australia’s young musician of 2026
Charlotte Miles performed Elgarâs Cello Concerto at Sydney Opera House to win last nightâs nationally broadcast ABC final. She was instantly snapped up by the Emblem Artists agency.
Charlotte, 24, is the first Australian student at the Kronberg Academy in Germany. She tours as a member of Gautier Capuçon’s cello ensemble and plays a Joseph Hill cello, made in 1780.
Much more sensible to have a competition which can launch a career at that age. The BBC school age competition format has had variable results over the years, and the UK needs a televised competition for 18-25 year olds. Give musicians a chance to develop their musicianship and repertoire. Then celebrate, put it on mainstream TV. Make music aspirational again, and support home grown talent before it is too late.
