All this time, the Westies, an Irish-American gang operating in 1980s New York in a fractious alliance with the Italian-American Gambino crime family, were right there. It’s the Irish mafia and the actual mafia in a two-for-one deal.

    Thousands of families visit the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center every year for events like the Westminster dog show, Comic Con and International Auto Show.

    During construction between 1979 through 1986 and in the early years of operation, the burgeoning Center on the very West end of 34th Street was a cash cow for New York’s criminal elite.

    It also limned the rise and fall of a violent Hell’s Kitchen-based Irish gang, the Westies. Those gangsters and the Javits Center play key roles in a new scripted crime series, “The Westies,” premiering July 12 on MGM+.

    All of Australia’s largest home loan lenders anticipate Aussie households are now in line for interest rate relief from next year.

    It comes as Westpac – typically the most hawkish of the big four banks – updated its expectations around the Reserve Bank’s interest rate path today, confirming it now expects rate relief next August rather than in 2028.

    The change comes after the bank updated its inflation outlook on the back of ongoing conflict in the Middle East, noting some improvement in the energy market outlook.

    It comes after a challenging few months for households juggling high fuel and food prices as the global oil crisis wreaks havoc on supply changes internationally.

    “They said there was nothing like it in QPAC’s history, that kind of absolute bedlam,” she said.

    “The phones went crazy, and there were queues forming all the way down the stairs outside the box office. It completely sold out its 19-week season.

    Disney Theatrical Group has announced The Lion King will return to Brisbane, opening at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre in November for a 17-week run.

    Like Diamond, Swenson is a baritone, so he nailed a nifty impression of the artist who penned countless hits, from singalong anthem Sweet Caroline to the number-one hit Cracklin’ Rosie.

    Theater Review: "A Beautiful Noise"

    To say Neil Diamond was important in our house when I was growing up is an understatement.  My mother, Rose, was, and still is, quite possibly his biggest fan.  She maintained that the song “Cracklin’ Rosie” was about her.  She would pay A LOT  of money every time Diamond came to Chicago so she could be in the front row.  She made him shirts, which she had sent backstage.  Let me put it this way:  I lived in Baltimore for thirteen years.  She came out to visit me twice, coincidentally at the same time Diamond was in the area.  In 1994 she called me all excited.  “Did you hear,” she asked, “Neil and Marsha are getting divorced.”  I asked who Neil and Marsha were and she replied “Neil Diamond.”  I asked, “Mom, did he ask you to marry him?”  “No.”  “Maybe next time.”

    Mieke’s journey on Farmer Wants A Wife ended in heartbreak after Zac chose to leave the show with Maya on Monday night.

    But once the cameras stopped rolling, the pair had one final conversation — a surprise phone call from Zac.

    Monday night’s episode also featured a surprise proposal, with former contestants farmer Tom and Georgie from last year’s season announcing they were engaged.

    Speaking to 7NEWS.com.au, Mieke revealed how she turned the heartbreak into a huge sea change, and opened up about the unexpected call from the apple farmer days after filming ended.

    Former flight attendant Mieke said after her romantic moment on the harbour with Zac, where they shared a kiss at the black-tie dinner, she was feeling quietly confident she would be the chosen one.

    Zac was in tears in Sunday night’s episode of Farmer Wants A Wife as he sent Grace home at the black-tie dinner, leaving Maya and Mieke as his final two. As for Grace, who’d scored the first 24-hour date with 24-year-old Zac at his apple farm, way back at the start, she was left feeling “confused, shocked and numb”.

    “Leading up to that night, I had been promised more time, another date, things I realised in that moment I was never going to get,” she tells TV WEEK. “I just felt like we had been cut short before we even had a chance. It was really disappointing and sad.”

    The first full length trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s hotly anticipated comedy-drama Digger has been released, and with it audiences’ first look at Tom Cruise’s least recognisable role since he donned a fatsuit and prosthetics for 2008’s Tropic Thunder.

    The film will be released worldwide in early October and stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell, “the most powerful man in the world” on a mission to save the world from an ecological disaster.

    Ahead of the trailer’s launch, Cruise recently spoke to press and fans at an event the Warner Bros launch in Los Angeles, saying that it was unlike any project he had worked on before.

    Tom Cruise had to dig deep for his latest starring role — pun intended.

    “I have never had something that could challenge me in this way, and neither has Alejandro,” Cruise said about starring in “Digger,” the black comedy from two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (“Birdman,” “The Revenant”).

    Described as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions,” the Warner Bros. film is Iñárritu’s first English-language movie since “The Revenant.” Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, sporting a thick Southern accent, a pot belly and thinning white hair (fashioned in an unconvincing combover) to play “the most powerful man in the world,” a billionaire whose company may have set off an ecological disaster that could also spark a nuclear war.

    ‘Digger’ Trailer: Tom Cruise Spent Days Listening to Alejandro G. Iñárritu Read Him the Script

    The first clip shows an unrecognizable Cruise in the film that is set for release on Oct. 2.

    Tom Cruise is known to be a student of film, the rare movie star who likes to speak at length about camera lenses and the crafts behind filmmaking. But one secret to his success? Getting directors to read to him aloud so he can better understand their visions.

    He says he’s done this with multiple directors, including Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the filmmaker behind Cruise’s upcoming prestige play Digger.

    “Alejandro took several days during which he was just reading the script to me and I’m listening to everything that’s in his mind, so that I can understand that, and then I know how to contribute to it, and bring that collaboration together,” Cruise said at a recent trailer event launch for Digger on the Warner Bros. lot.
