    STRANGER THINGS Excluded from Best Drama and Acting Emmys

    Stranger Things was no doubt a cultural phenomenon. Seasons 4 and 5 both appeared on Netflix’s ‘Top 10 Shows of All Time’ list. Despite its popularity, season 5 was not an audience favorite. The Popcornmeter is full of fans complaining about unkillable main characters, bad CGI, and trope-y, cliched writing.

    If it was for these reasons is unclear, but voters excluded the season from the Emmy nominations for Best Drama. The series’s actors got nothing in their categories, either.

    The season follows the characters from the previous four seasons as they band together and try to find and defeat Vecna, the primary antagonist. The battle they fight is both physical and mental. It also includes a lot of callbacks and parallels to prior seasons, a detail that had mixed reviews from fans.

    Stranger Things Cast Snubbed at Emmys: No Nominations for Final Season

    A decade ago, a group of unknown kids on bikes pedaled straight into television history. On Wednesday, the Emmys let them ride off without so much as a wave goodbye. No member of the Stranger Things cast earned a nomination for the show's fifth and final season, a shutout that left one of Netflix's defining ensembles empty-handed at its last chance for recognition.

    The omission stung more because the series was not ignored entirely. Variety reports the final season earned recognition in technical categories while the grown-up young stars who carried the show came away with nothing, listing the snub among the morning's most shocking alongside Sydney Sweeney. TV Insider echoed the point, noting the acting fields shut the core cast out entirely despite the technical support.

    Star Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades suffered a brutal hit in the second term of the clash with St Kilda on Saturday, and was later ruled out of the game with concussion.

    Georgiades and St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall had eyes only for the ball when they both collided mid-air in a marking contest.

    “A massive collision. Two players are down. That was huge,” Leigh Montagna said in the commentary.

    “That is as courageous as you will see from two players.”

    Gerard Healy said: “Georgiades has had a bad couple of weeks in that area.”

    Fortunately, Georgiades was able to get to his feet to leave the field, and was immediately taken for an HIA (Head Injury Assessment).

    Remarkable scientific progress against cancer has changed very little for millions of patients globally, who face devastating physical, emotional and financial consequences after diagnosis, a new World Health Organization report has warned.

    One person in five will develop cancer, according to WHO estimates, and the disease will touch 92% of people, either through their own diagnosis or that of a close family member.

    Dr Andre Ilbawi, team lead for cancer control at the WHO, said: “For years, the story told about cancer has been about scientific progress, new technologies, new treatment, new hope. That story is true, and it deserves to be told, but it’s not the whole story.”

    Global cancer statistics 2024: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 34 cancers in 186 countries

    Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) estimate that 20.6 million people were diagnosed with cancer and 9.8 million people died from cancer in 2024, in the latest GLOBOCAN estimates of the global burden of cancer incidence and cancer mortality, published today in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. These figures, representing estimates for 34 cancer types in 186 countries, are equivalent to 1 in 5 people developing cancer during their lifetime and 1 in 9 men and 1 in 13 women dying from cancer.

    Lung cancer was the most frequently diagnosed cancer, responsible for about 2.6 million new cases (12.8%), followed by female breast cancer (11.8%), colorectal cancer (9.9%), prostate cancer (7.5%), and stomach cancer (4.8%). Lung cancer was also the leading cause of cancer death, responsible for an estimated 1.9 million deaths (19.1%), followed by colorectal cancer (9.4%), liver cancer (7.5%), female breast cancer (7.1%), and stomach cancer (6.6%).

    Judge denies teen killer’s request for a hug as he hands down life sentence

    FORT MYERS, Fla. (Court TV) — A judge showed no mercy to a tearful teenager convicted of killing a 15-year-old girl, sentencing him to spend the rest of his life behind bars — plus 45 years.

    Thomas Stein, 18, was convicted of felony murder with a firearm and three counts of attempted murder in the death of Kayla Rincon-Miller, who was shot to death on March 17, 2024. Rincon-Miller had been out at the movies with two friends when they were randomly targeted by Stein and his friend, Christopher Horne.

    At his trial, Stein took the stand and conceded that he had been present at the time of Rincon-Miller’s death, but claimed that others in the car had pulled the trigger and that he never had any intention of hurting anyone. Stein testified at his sentencing on Friday, maintaining his plan that night had only been to steal from cars. “I didn’t know that robbery was going to occur, but it was my reaction in fleeing that ultimately played a major role in assisting the perpetrators,” Stein said Friday. “I know that it wasn’t my intentions, but the truth is it doesn’t change the result. It doesn’t change the fact that there was a life taken and innocent people were forever traumatized because of that. That day I made a terrible decision. The decision to get behind the wheel was a total act of selfishness and something I regret and I’m ashamed of every day.”

    Gate 1 was temporarily closed to fans and track action halted upon the discovery of a suspicious package near Turn 8.

    Mario Kart Tour to shut down in September 2026

    An offline version of the free-to-play mobile game will not be released

    Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart Tour will go offline on iOS and Android in September 2026.

    The free-to-play mobile game, which launched six years ago, will shut down on September 29, 2026, at 11 p.m. PST.

    "We sincerely thank the many players who have loved and supported the game since service began so long ago," said Nintendo.

    Nintendo has not provided a reason for the shutdown. An offline version of Mario Kart Tour will not be released.

    This differs from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which received a premium version after its closure in 2024.
