UFC to pay White House fighters in crypto issued by Trump company

Some fighters will receive bonuses in ‘stablecoins’ issued by Trump family business World Liberty Financial

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced on Friday that it will pay bonuses to fighters in a form of cryptocurrency issued by Trump family business World Liberty Financial at the heavily publicized White House mixed martial arts event on Sunday.

The development connects the Trump family’s financial interests to the high-profile UFC competition being promoted on government property. The competition on the south White House lawn is scheduled for 14 June, Donald Trump’s birthday.

The UFC said some fighters will receive bonuses in World Liberty Financial crypto called “stablecoins”, whose value is pegged to the US dollar. World Liberty named the currency “USD1”.

Migration opponents are being warned big cuts to Australia's intake numbers would cause havoc for the economy and impact housing targets.

Immigration and housing numbers were out of balance with each other but dramatic cuts were not the solution, minister Tony Burke said ahead of the release of net overseas migration numbers on Thursday.

"We've brought (net migration levels) down 45 per cent," the Immigration Minister told Sky News on Sunday.

Royal Marine Commandos have boarded a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the English Channel in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Marines, joined by National Crime Agency officers, with the support of the RAF, intercepted and boarded the vessel in a six-hour operation – the first operation of its kind by UK armed forces.

The vessel, Smyrtos, will be held and monitored off the south coast of England as investigations continue, the MoD said.

Sir Keir Starmer said: "This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fuelling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide."

British armed forces intercepted and boarded a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker in the Channel in the early hours of Sunday, Keir Starmer has confirmed.

In a six-hour operation, the first of its kind to be led by the UK, Royal Marine commandos and officers from the National Crime Agency boarded and took control of the vessel, Smyrtos, which was sailing under a Cameroonian flag.

According to the tracking website Marine Traffic, the vessel is now anchored off the coast of Dorset, near Weymouth. Authorities said it would be monitored for environmental or safety concerns.

Royal Navy warships support first UK seizure of Russian shadow fleet vessel

Royal Marines have boarded and seized a Russian shadow fleet tanker in the English Channel for the first time during the early hours of this morning.

Royal Marine Commandos and National Crime Agency officers have taken control of the sanctioned merchant ship MV Smyrtos, marking the first UK-led interdiction of a Russian shadow fleet vessel. The 6-hour operation was supported by frigate, HMS Sutherland and mine hunter, HMS Ledbury. Merlin HC4, Wildcat and Chinook helicopters were also involved and the operation was carried out in close coordination with France. Video released by the MoD shows Royal Marines rapid roping onto the ship from RAF Chinooks.

Big Four divided on RBA direction as one major bank warns two interest rate hikes still ahead

Australia's major banks are divided on which direction interest rates will go next. Three of the Big Four banks think interest rate rises are now over and the next move will be down, but one is predicting mortgage holders could be in for a further two interest rate hikes this year.

The one thing all of the bank economists are in agreement about is that borrowers will get some reprieve at the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) June meeting this week. The central bank has already hiked rates three times this year, taking the cash rate to 4.35 per cent.

Should I sell my investment property now, or after July next year?

I have owned an investment property since 1997 and, with the proposed removal of the 50 per cent capital gains tax (CGT) discount, I am confused about the rules that may apply after July 2027. I originally owned two apartments, but sold one in 2015, using the proceeds to pay out the mortgages on both properties. The remaining apartment is no longer negatively geared, so the rental income, combined with my pensions, places me in a higher tax bracket. I understand that I will have to pay CGT whether the 50 per cent discount remains available. What confuses me is the proposed new system that allows increases in the Consumer Price Index to be considered when calculating the taxable gain. The treasurer said the system from July 2027 will be based on the pre-1999 rules, which I know little about.

Brad Pitt and David Ayer reunite for some real dude stuff in Heart Of The Beast trailer

Next up from Paramount Pictures: Brad Pitt is a military veteran with PTSD, a disabled German Shepherd, and an indomitable American spirit who is trapped in the Alaska woods. This is the gist of the trailer for Heart Of The Beast, and yes, to answer the question you’re surely asking, the film does reunite Pitt with his Fury director David Ayer, who also directed The Beekeeper, Bright, and 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Pitt plays Special Forces officer James Belmont, and, as the trailer takes pains to show us, he’s not the kind of guy you want to mess with. This is a guy who shot another guy in the head because the other guy threw a brick at James’ dog, Odin. Anyway, the character played by J.K. Simmons thinks this story is a total laugh riot. Unfortunately for the pack of wolves James meets after his plane goes down, they miss this story and choose to attack James and Odin, which we’re going to guess doesn’t go especially well for them. According to a press release, the film also features True Detective and North Of North actor Anna Lambe, though you wouldn’t know it from the trailer, which doesn’t feature a single woman. Heart Of The Beast is out September 25.
