The RBA doesn't think it will raise rates again, but it doesn't want you to know

Michele Bullock says it's important Australians believe the RBA will hike rates if it needs to. (AAP: Dan Himbrechts)

Every second meeting, the Reserve Bank's boffins produce a set of economic forecasts that guides the board's thinking for the next three months.

The latest set of forecasts is good news for mortgage borrowers fearing further rate hikes.

Inflation was dramatically lower than the RBA expected just three months ago in May, even though oil prices behaved much as expected.

What's more, the bank continues to expect inflation to fall to the mid-point of its 2-3 per cent target range by the end of 2027, even though rates are tipped to be lower.

RBA misreads hidden crisis as homeowners left with bad credit for common home act

Australia’s Reserve Bank could be playing a game of financial Russian roulette with homeowners, relying on a statistical blind spot that could trigger another crippling interest rate blow.

The RBA announced at its latest board meeting Tuesday that interest rates would be kept on hold, but noted that future rate rises remained a possibility.

“The Board will continue to do what it considers necessary to bring inflation sustainably back to target, including increasing the cash rate target further if upside risks materialise,” The RBA said.

But mortgage brokers have criticised the prospect of further rate hikes, arguing the RBA had a flawed understanding of just how far it could push homeowners.

Roz Hervey had hours left to live. She asked her family to press record

As she looks down the barrel of the camera, Roz Hervey faces her imminent death with composure and determination.

"I am ready," the Adelaide-based dancer and artistic director states calmly as her husband Geoff Cobham and children Tilda and Huey Cobham-Hervey watch on.

"It is so, so important that people have the opportunity to die with dignity. I get to choose my beautiful surroundings, people who I love around me and dying in a calm, beautiful, and graceful way."

Having dedicated her life to making art that provoked thought and discussion, Roz, 58, approached her death with the same intention.

In the final hours of her life, Roz had one last creative mission to enact, one that motor neurone disease (MND) had not robbed her of being able to deliver. She asked her family to document her video message.

    Australian Story: Aug 17

Australian Story profiles the story of Tilda Cobham-Hervey’s mother Roz, dying with dignity.

It was a mother’s dying wish. When dancer Roz Hervey was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, her daughter, actor Tilda Cobham-Hervey, stepped behind the camera to record her story. Roz dedicated her life to making art that pushed boundaries. She faced death in the same way.

In her final hours, she made an impassioned plea. “It was a call to arms for us to get the information out there about voluntary assisted dying,” Tilda tells Australian Story. After being diagnosed with MND in 2022, Roz was determined to “seize the day”.

    Former Origin utility announces retirement

Former NRL half and utility Moses Mbye has announced his retirement from rugby league 13 years after making his NRL debut.

Mbye has over 260 first-grade games experience across both the NRL and Super League, including stints at the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra Dragons and St. Helens.

The Noosa junior burst onto the scene at Belmore, recording almost 100 games for the Bulldogs over five seasons before making the switch to Concord in 2018, where he captained the Tigers from 2019 to 2020.

He made the switch to Wollongong in 2022 and played for the Red V in a utility role for a season-and-a-half before being released early to go play in England.

Former St Helens & Queensland star hangs up boots

Former St Helens star Moses Mbye has announced his retirement, insisting he will be ‘forever in debt to the game’ of rugby league.

Mbye – who turned 33 last week – brought the curtain down on his first-grade career with Saints, arriving midway through the 2023 campaign and remaining on Merseyside until the end of 2025.

Clocking up six tries in 61 appearances across all competitions while donning the red vee, the utility – able to slot into the halves or at hooker – returned Down Under to conclude his playing career in the Queensland Cup with Ipswich Jets.

The Jets have two games remaining in the Q Cup this term before the play-offs come around, but having not featured since mid-July, Mbye has now hung up his boots.

The Rookie star dials up the charm and makes his tough-talking Green Lantern the hero we need in 2026.

When comic books first carved gods and monsters from cheap newsprint paper, they transformed low-quality wood pulp into invincible icons such as Superman and Batman and the terrifying villains they face. These heroic figures, like their stablemates the Flash and Aquaman, were variously otherworldly princes, noble avengers or scientific geniuses.

Guy Gardner – better known as Green Lantern – had a far more earthly origin story. His childhood was brutal, at the hands of an alcoholic father. He grew up in the shadow of a more popular older brother. And his football career was derailed by injury. Created in print in the late 1960s as an aggressive hothead, he offers a uniquely offbeat take on what it means to be a superhero in 2026.

A debunked clip compilation was used to accuse Hasan Piker of calling for lynchings. He told Status that litigation against Scott Jennings, Salem Media, and Fox News now “seems unavoidable.”

On Tuesday, during his nationally syndicated Salem Media radio show, MAGA pundit Scott Jennings played a compilation of clips from Twitch star Hasan Piker as part of a segment he has dubbed an “exploration of the radical socialist streamer.” Jennings then leveled an explosive accusation.

Scott Jennings Faces Legal Threat From Twitch Streamer

Conservative commentator Scott Jennings is facing a legal threat over a bogus racism claim made against a popular left-wing streamer.

During his nationally syndicated radio show last Tuesday, Jennings, 48, aired a compilation of clips from Hasan Piker during a segment he called an "exploration of the radical socialist streamer."

Piker, 35, has over 3 million followers on the livestreaming platform Twitch where he streams for up to eight hours each day.

After playing the spliced-together clips, Jennings said, "Now [Abdul] El-Sayed's best friend is out there calling for Black voters to be lynched"—referring to the Michigan Democratic Senate nominee.

"Beneath all the smiles and dancing videos, there's nothing but hate and violence in the heart of these communists," Jennings added.

Hasan Piker Prepares to Sue CNN’s Scott Jennings Over Phony Video

Left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker appears to be gearing up to sue conservative commentator Scott Jennings for defamation.

Jennings, a CNN contributor, went viral last week after posting a heavily edited, intentionally misleading video of what looked like Piker expressing extreme hostility towards Black voters and calling for lynchings. With the full context, it is obvious that Piker was being sarcastic.

“Black voters have been voting against the socialists, only to be ruled in many cases by privileged white commies,” Jennings claimed, using Black identity as a bludgeon against the Democratic left. “Did you ever notice, by the way, how violent these people are? … Now [Abdul] El-Sayed’s best friend is out there calling for Black voters to be lynched. Beneath all the smiles and dancing videos, there’s nothing but hate and violence in the heart of these Communists.”
