UK military forces have been deployed after detecting malign activity from Russian submarines operating in the North Sea, it has been revealed.

British Defence Secretary John Healey has accused Russian forces of trying to use the distraction of war in the Middle East to carry out a sabotage plot on undersea infrastructure.

The UK has deployed military vessels to prevent any attacks on cables and pipelines by Russian submarines that spent more than a month in and around British waters earlier this year, its defence minister John Healey has announced.

UK says Russia ran submarine operation over cables and pipelines

Three Russian submarines conducted a "covert" operation over cables and pipelines in waters north of the UK, Defence Secretary John Healey said.

A British warship and aircraft were deployed to deter the "malign" activity by Moscow and there was "no evidence" of any damage to UK infrastructure in the Atlantic, he added.

Addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin directly, Healey said: "We see you. We see your activity over our cables and our pipelines, and you should know that any attempt to damage them will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences."

The Russian embassy in London has denied Healey's claims, according to Moscow's state news agency Tass.

Middle East crisis live: Netanyahu says ‘no ceasefire in Lebanon’ as Israel attacks ‘Hezbollah launch sites’

Israeli prime minister’s remarks come shortly after Trump told US media he had asked Netanyahu to be more ‘low-key’

“I wish to inform you: There is no ceasefire in Lebanon,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israelis in a short video address posted on X. He said Israel was “continuing to strike Hezbollah with full force, and we will not stop until we restore your security.”

His comments come shortly after President Trump said he had asked Netanyahu to be “more low-key” in Lebanon, as the US seeks to negotiate with Iran to bring the war to an end.

Netanyahu added that he had instructed his government to “open direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible.” The talks will focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah and the establishment of peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon, he added.

Hospitals in Beirut struggle to deal with casualties after Israeli attacks

Doctors warn of worsening crises as vital supplies run low and Israeli attacks devastate Beirut and surrounding areas.

Beirut, Lebanon – As bombs rained down on Lebanon’s capital, hundreds of people rushed to the American University of Beirut (AUB) Hospital, many crying, many scared. Children were looking for their siblings or their parents, unsure if they were dead or alive.

Israeli forces had bombed 100-plus targets across the country in 10 minutes on Wednesday, despite a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran that many thought would include Lebanon.

“In under an hour, we received around 76 injured people. Unfortunately, six people didn’t make it,” Dr Salah Zeineldine, AUB’s chief medical officer, told Al Jazeera, as the hospital became an “epicentre” for victims of the Israeli attacks.

Post-ceasefire attacks in Lebanon spark fears war would get 'much worse'

People in Lebanon fear the war is going to get "much worse" after Israel hit the country's capital, Beirut, with a fresh wave of air strikes overnight.

Israel launched the attacks on what it said were Hezbollah targets hours after the US and Iran announced they had reached a ceasefire agreement.

Peace negotiations will begin in Pakistan at the weekend but it is unclear whether fighting will stop in Lebanon, which the US and Israel have claimed is not covered by the ceasefire.

On the streets of Beirut, a fresh sense of fear and panic has set in.

Overnight, Israel launched widespread attacks on the Lebanese capital — the most intense wave of Israeli air strikes to date in this war.

Robert MacIntyre admitted he wanted to "smash up my golf clubs" after letting a big lead slip to 2026 Masters partner Scottie Scheffler at the BMW Championship last August. MacIntyre had four shots over the world No.1 on the final day but hit consecutive bogeys and just one birdie, which allowed Scheffler to swoop in and claim victory.

The Scotsman was unsurprisingly blunt to the media after missing out on what would have been a third PGA Tour triumph. He also showcased his clear frustrations when asked what improvements were needed.

The previous fixture at this venue, on April 6, was washed out after just 3.4 overs. It rained on Thursday afternoon, too, but the weather then cleared to allow the toss to take place at 7pm IST as scheduled.

KKR brace for Shami challenge in LSG clash

Out of tune and bereft of ideas, Kolkata Knight Riders may ring in sweeping changes in search of their first win of the season when they face a Mohammed Shami-inspired Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, here on Thursday.

Shami is fresh from his outstanding 2/9 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head in successive overs — the same duo who had battered KKR the other day. The ‘local’ man Shami, a fine exponent of straight seam bowling and movement, will relish the conditions at Eden Gardens and could emerge as a key threat for a KKR who are yet to win after three matches. A glimpse of what to expect was seen on Monday when PBKS’ Australian speedster Xavier Bartlett showed how effective straight seam bowling can be on a grassy Eden pitch, blowing away KKR’s top order by dismissing overseas duo Finn Allen and Cameron Green in the space of three balls. From 16/2 in two overs, KKR were fortunate to escape with a point after their match against Punjab Kings was washed out.

'Malcolm in the Middle' returns after 20 years with questions of legacy and its trademark craziness

‘Taking my clothes off is my whole life!’ Bryan Cranston on the glorious gross-out return of Malcolm in the Middle

TV’s most outrageous family is back – and for the Breaking Bad icon, it’s a great excuse to let rip … and get naked again. The stars talk skivvies, chugging raw meat and being stung in the crotch by 60,000 honey bees

The intro to the new Malcolm in the Middle is quite the thing. Kids punch police officers. Santa Claus gets kicked in the face. A barrel full of faeces detonates inside a family car. This recap of previous episodes is so full of gross-out comedy and family fights that a grandma grabs her teenage grandson and crushes his testicles until he squeals. “And,” intones a voiceover at its end, “someone actually asked for more of this.”

‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Reboot ‘Life’s Still Unfair’ Is Totally Unnecessary: TV Review

Twenty-six years after its debut on Fox, the hit sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” has returned as a four-episode miniseries reboot on Disney+. The show, which is titled “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,” catches up with Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his family as they gear up to celebrate Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois’ (Jane Kaczmarek) 40th wedding anniversary. Like the countless reboots that have been conjured up throughout the past decade, from “The Conners” to “Will & Grace” and “Fuller House,” the original cast (except for Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed Dewey in the first series) reprises their roles. Yet, neither the nostalgia nor the whimsy present makes this revival feel worthwhile. With original “Malcolm in the Middle” creator Linwood Boomer at the helm, as “Life’s Still Unfair” opens, fans are given a rapid-fire recap of some of the most memorable moments of the earlier show. From there, the audience catches up with Malcolm himself. Breaking the fourth wall, he declares he’s happy and successful. The Harvard alum also shares that he can be productive even when he’s surrounded by idiots. In addition to running his charity business, Malcolm also reveals that he’s a single dad to his teenage daughter, Leah (Keeley Karste), and he’s in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Tristian (Kiana Madeira). However, he explains he’s able to thrive because he’s chosen to have very limited contact with his parents and siblings. In fact, he’s already concocted a plan to avoid attending Lois and Hal’s soiree.  Malcolm has seemingly turned over a new leaf, but the rest of his family are exactly who they’ve always been. Hal remains loving, emotional and completely oblivious. Meanwhile, Lois is just as fearsome and controlling as ever. Though she and Hal still treat each other tenderly, in “Life’s Still Unfair,” she’s on a rampage, determined to plan the perfect party despite her children (and Hal’s) continued antics and any financial strain it’s causing them. The siblings are exactly who fans will remember them to be (for the most part). Eldest son Francis (Christopher Masterson) and his wife Piama (Emy Coligado) remain in a happy marriage, but the couple now lives in Hal and Lois’ garage, so it’s a bit too close for comfort. Second-born Reese (Justin Berfield) has, unfortunately, as expected, not amounted to much. However, he and Hal do spend a great deal of time doing odd jobs around the house. Dewey (now portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark) has taken his musical gifts across the globe and is primarily seen in this show via video chat. Fifth son Jamie (Anthony Timpano) now works for the Coast Guard. And finally, Kelly (Vaughan Murrae), the baby Lois was pregnant with in the series finale, is a thoughtful teenager, trying to keep sane in their chaotic household.Though Malcolm has effectively distanced himself from his family, his choices all come to a head after Lois and Hal make a surprise visit to his home, demanding his presence at their anniversary party. This drop in reveals numerous secrets and lies Malcolm has hidden from his parents, Leah and Tristian. Composed of just four 30-minute episodes, “Life’s Still Unfair” feels more like a reunion special bursting with cameos than an actual reboot. This finale certainly has a heartfelt moment or two, but the show overall is wholly unnecessary. Aside from Cranston and Kaczmarek, who remain pitch-perfect nearly three decades later, none of the other jokes truly land or reveal anything significant about the original sitcom — the majority of the comedy in “Life’s Still Unfair” feels clunky and forced. Still, there is one notable delight in the series. The final episode ends with a charming and heartfelt (albeit chaotic) display that will make even the most reboot-fatigued viewer crack a smile or two. Yet, as the credits roll, it’s quite clear that “Malcolm in the Middle” was of a different era. And that era is long gone.

Australia is opening its chequebook to outbid rivals in a global scramble for fuel, as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese flies to Singapore seeking deals to secure extra shipments and avert a looming shortfall.

Despite early hopes that a fragile two-week ceasefire in Iran would unclog oil shipping routes and bring relief at the petrol pump in the coming weeks, Australia remains dangerously exposed to the risk of a supply crunch unless the government can negotiate extra deliveries of petrol, diesel and jet fuel.

On Thursday, Albanese said the government had secured the support of the nation’s biggest fuel importers, Viva Energy and Ampol, to participate in a scheme to urgently boost shipments to Australia.

Global oil markets could take as long as a year to return to something like pre-Iran war normality even if the conflict ended tomorrow, leading experts warn.

Hopes for an immediate restart of shipping through the strait of Hormuz have been dashed after Israel bombarded Lebanon shortly after the announcement of a two-week cease-fire between the US and Iran, with Iranian media reporting traffic through the strait had been halted in response.
