Tech stocks today: Anthropic does damage control after Claude leak, Iran threaten Big Tech operations

Tech stocks rose on Wednesday morning as markets staged a comeback to end the first quarter on a high note after a brutal March.

Shares of Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG), Nvidia (NVDA), and Microsoft (MSFT) were modestly higher despite a warning from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that it would target the companies’ operations.

In other tech news, Anthropic raced to remove copies of leaked source code for its Claude AI agent app after the company accidentally exposed Claude Code’s underlying instructions, giving competitors and hackers new information about the model.

Anticipation continues to build around an Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) IPO, expected as early as this year, as well as the public debut of Elon Musk’s SpaceX (SPAX.PVT).

Anthropic accidentally leaked thousands of lines of code

Anthropic PBC inadvertently released internal source code behind its popular artificial intelligence-powered Claude coding assistant, raising questions about the security of an AI model developer that has built its brand on prioritizing safety.

“Earlier today, a Claude Code release included some internal source code. No sensitive customer data or credentials were involved or exposed,” Anthropic said in an emailed statement late Tuesday. “This was a release packaging issue caused by human error, not a security breach.”

The accidental release marked Anthropic’s second security slip-up in a matter of days, compromising approximately 1,900 files and 512,000 lines of code related to Claude Code — an agentic coding tool that runs directly inside developer environments. Last week, Fortune separately reported that Anthropic had been storing thousands of internal files on a publicly accessible system, including a draft blog post that detailed an upcoming model known internally as both “Mythos” and “Capybara.”

Exclusive: Anthropic is testing ‘Mythos,’ its ‘most powerful AI model ever developed’

AI company Anthropic is developing, and has begun testing with early access customers, a new AI model more capable than any it has released previously, the company said, following a data leak that revealed the model’s existence.

An Anthropic spokesperson said the new model represents “a step change” in AI performance and is “the most capable we’ve built to date.” The company said the model is currently being trialed by “early access customers.”Descriptions of the model were inadvertently stored in a publicly accessible data cache and were reviewed by Fortune.

A draft blog post that was available in an unsecured and publicly searchable data store prior to Thursday evening said the new model is called Claude Mythos and that the company believes it poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks.

Westpac and CBA lock horns in institutional banking tussle

Westpac chief executive Anthony Miller wants to restore the lender to a leadership position servicing banking’s top end of town, opening up a new front of competition with arch rivals Commonwealth Bank and ANZ.

Analysts, investors and others familiar with Miller’s strategy say the former Goldman Sachs investment banker has been steadily ramping up Westpac’s lending to big corporates and government clients, partly to offset growing technology costs.

Westpac, CBA poaching war heats up as banking giants trade managers

Westpac and Commonwealth Bank have poached key staff from each other in core strategic areas of artificial intelligence and agribusiness banking, escalating a long-running rivalry to secure talent.

The direction of travel of senior AI executives has mostly been from CBA to Westpac, where chief executive Anthony Miller is keen to catch the technology leadership that the country’s biggest bank has built over years.

CA ANZ closely monitoring CBA loan fraud investigation

The professional body is not aware of any involvement by its members in the $1 billion home loan fraud at this stage, but has reminded members about their obligations.

The discovery of approximately $1 billion in potentially fraudulent loans by the Commonwealth Bank last month highlights major risks accountants should pay attention to in their own practices, including identity theft and AI misuse, CA ANZ has said in a recent submission to the parliamentary joint committee.

In late February, it was reported that CBA had self-reported to regulators and authorities after uncovering a suspected $1 billion of home loan fraud on its books. The fraudulent loans were obtained using doctored applications and false documents, such as AI-generated fake income statements, according to reports by The Australian Financial Review.

Shrinking Season 3 Episode 10 Recap: Jimmy Hits His Breaking Point

The end is nigh as the close of Season 3 of Shrinking looms, the feelings of resentment, sacrificial love, and displaced anger take center stage this week for the Apple original series centered on mental health and relationships.

We are now standing on the eve of Alice Laird’s (Lukita Maxwell) graduation, a milestone event that has brought her grandfather back into her and her father’s lives. However, widowed therapist Jimmy Laird, played by Jason Segel, is still silently seething about his father, Randy’s, selfish bailout on his daughter’s special day.

At the start of the penultimate episode for the season, the Laird trio are hanging with neighborhood friends Liz (Christa Miller) and Brian (Michael Urie), with Baby Sutton in tow, for some adorable friend time, just ahead of the revelry. Jimmy’s dad, played by Jeff Daniels, uses the baby visit to, once again, get his digs in at Jimmy’s expense with childhood memories that no one asked to relive, least of all Jimmy.

Shrinking Season 3, Episode 9 Review: ‘Daddy Issues’

A period of change causes the characters to reflect on what they want in Shrinking Season 3, Episode 9, “Daddy Issues.” The episode, written by Rachna Fruchbom and directed by Anu Valia, is a real testament to how far they’ve come and how much longer they still have to go. One of the best and most realistic things about Shrinking is that it knows life ebbs and flows.

Development never moves in one direction all of the time. So, it’s reassuring to watch these characters make great strides but also stumble and figure out how to get back up. “Daddy Issues” demonstrates just that while propelling Shrinking into the final two episodes of the season’s “moving forward” theme.

Australians lost more than A$2 billion to scams in 2025, new figures from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) show.

This was a 7.8% increase compared to 2024. And it’s in spite of the fact the federal government passed legislation in February 2025 enforcing strict anti-scam obligations on banks, telcos and social media platforms.

Those obligations, however, aren’t yet in force. So what explains the delay? And what can Australians do to protect themselves from scams in the meantime?

Bevan Lisle was enjoying an overseas holiday when he found out he had been scammed out of $50,000.

The Sydney retiree was in disbelief when he was told a junior worker had sold his entire share portfolio and deposited the proceeds into a bank account that wasn't his.

"They got an email purporting to be from me, and they changed my bank account details without any further verification," Mr Lisle said.

Australians lost $2.18 billion to scams in 2025, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

“You want the refs to bail you out?”: Lowery rejects Cotton concerns

Who stood up? Who fell short? Every player rated from Game 4

Heading into Game 4 of the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 Championship Series, the Adelaide 36ers trail the Sydney Kings 2-1.

In the two games the 36ers have lost, both at Qudos Bank Arena, Adelaide, as coach Mike Wells has pointed out, have lost the foul count 24-11.

In particular, Wells expressed his frustrations about the lack of fouls that are being called on Kings’ trio, Matthew Dellavedova, Torrey Craig and Makuach Maluach while defending six-time MVP Bryce Cotton.

“Matthew Dellavedova played how many minutes? He had zero fouls, guys. The main guy that's on Bryce Cotton had zero fouls, and he's guarding him like this. That’s not a legal guarding position,” Wells said in Sunday’s post-game press conference.

‘LeBron still praises him’: Kings coach slams rival’s Delly ‘disrespect’

Legendary Sydney Kings head coach Brian Goorjian has called out rival Adelaide 36ers coach Mike Wells, labelling his officiating rant aimed at Matthew Dellavedova as “weak” on the eve of Game 4 of the NBL Championship Series.

Wisconsin football mourns passing of former tight end Jack Pugh

MADISON – The Wisconsin football program is mourning the passing of Jack Pugh, a tight end who spent three years in the program.

A four-star recruit coming out of high school, Pugh was a member of the Badgers’ 2021 recruiting class. Pugh focused on basketball during his first two years at Hilliard Bradley High School near Columbus, Ohio, before joining the football team as a junior. Despite the lack of experience, Pugh received nearly two dozen offers that included Michigan, Penn State, MIchigan State, Maryland and Minnesota.

His last year with the Badgers was 2023, though he spent that season away from the program due to personal reasons. In December of '23 he announced his retirement due to health reasons.

Jack Pugh, a tight end from Columbus, Ohio, passed away, according to the statement.

Pugh played high school football at Hilliard Bradley and was considered a four-star prospect by 247 Sports.

Pugh redshirted for the Badgers in 2021 and appeared in one game in 2022. Pugh was named “Academic All-Big Ten” in 2022.

Melbourne rock the casuals ahead of Round 3 clash

Melbourne has become the first club to embrace the casual clothing trend, with squad members arriving to Sunday's game in their choice of attire.

Latrelle Pickett wore all black, Koltyn Tholstrup rocked boardies, Jake Lever brought a duffle bag, Max Gawn sported a tank top and Ed Langdon brought a bicycle with him.

But it was Changkuoth Jiath's tee and jeans combo which arguably won the pre-game fashion stakes.

The move aligns with Melbourne's strategy of embracing personality and having more fun in 2026, which has been visible in all elements of the footy club from the brand of footy they have played to their social media strategy.

Watson: Melbourne’s innovation will be copied – and so it should

Tim Watson believes Melbourne’s innovation in wearing casual clothes to Sunday’s game against Carlton will be followed by others.

The Demons turned heads when players rocked up to the MCG in casual wear rather than regular club gear.

Watson, who has been advocating for this for some time, loves what the Dees did and reckons others will now follow suit.

“We live in a copycat league,” said Watson on SEN Breakfast.

“It just takes one brave, creative individual or a group to buck the system, innovate and adore for a long-held belief to be shattered.

“Melbourne allowing its players to wear clothes they choose to a game will be followed by a stampede of other clubs.
