3 things to watch for in Lakers-Suns on League Pass

Both the Lakers and Suns look to snap two-game losing streaks when they meet in Phoenix on Thursday night.

Phoenix Suns Royce O’Neale and Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James look to snap their teams’ two-game losing streaks.

The Los Angeles Lakers (34-23, 6th in Western Conference) go on the road for the first time since Feb. 3 when they visit the Phoenix Suns (33-26, 7th in West) on Thursday (9 ET). LA went 4-4 during their 8-game homestand, while the Suns are 3-7 over their last ten outings.

    1. Injuries, offensive struggles for Suns: The injury bug is flying freely in Phoenix and it wreaked havoc in The Valley post All-Star break. After just 9 minutes of play in the Suns’ first game back following the festivities, Devin Booker sustained a hip flexor that has kept him on the shelf since. Two nights later, Dillon Brooks, who’s averaging a career-high 20.9 ppg during his first season in purple and orange, broke his left hand and will be sidelined 4-6 weeks. In the same contest, Jordan Goodwin, an important contributor off the bench, suffered a calf injury that will keep him out of the lineup for 1-to-2 weeks before being reevaluated. All in all, those three players account for 54.5 of Phoenix’s 112.1 ppg. As a result, the Suns have scored less than 95 points in three of their last four games, posting an NBA-worst 91.3 ppg during that stretch. They’ll need guys like Grayson Allen (17.2 ppg), Collin Gillespie (13.4 ppg) and Jalen Green (13.3 ppg) to step up in a big way, and a matchup against the Lakers’ 24th-ranked defense (116.6 DEFRTG) could be just what this team needs to get back on the right track.

Lakers Hit With More Bad News After Ayton Rant

The Los Angeles Lakers absorbed more bad news following a crushing one-point loss as they try to steady themselves in a tightening Western Conference race.

Japanese forward Rui Hachimura has been downgraded to out with an illness on the NBA’s official injury report, leaving the Los Angeles Lakers shorthanded ahead of a pivotal road matchup against the Phoenix Suns.

The absence comes on the heels of a heartbreaking 110–109 loss to the Orlando Magic, a game that further exposed the Lakers’ thin margin for error as they jockey for playoff positioning.

At 34–23, Los Angeles sits sixth in the Western Conference, with Phoenix trailing by just two games in the tightly packed play-in picture. With fewer than 25 games remaining, every result carries postseason weight — particularly for a team still searching for lineup consistency under JJ Redick, now in his second season on the bench.

Rui Hachimura Injury: Ruled out with illness

Hachimura won't play in Thursday's game against the Suns due to an illness, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com.

Hachimura can be tentatively labeled as questionable for Saturday's clash with the Warriors. With the 28-year-old forward sidelined, the door is open for each of Jake LaRavia, Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart to seize a more sizable role Thursday.

Ash Gardner says the Australians focused on their own game during the series-opening win over India.

Australia scored a six-wicket victory over India in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Australia faces India in the second match of the series at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.

Ash Gardner has described Australia's series-opening win against India as the "perfect performance" ahead of Friday's second ODI match between the two sides in Hobart.

After India trumped its hosts 2-1 in the T20 series, Australia hit back with a comprehensive six-wicket win in the first 50-match in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Adaptability key as Aussies look to build on 'perfect start' to ODIs

Australia are hunting consecutive wins in what has been a rollercoaster multi-format series, while India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is expected to be fit for Friday's second ODI

Australia are looking to seize momentum as the multi-format series against India shifts to Hobart, following what allrounder Ashleigh Gardner dubbed a "kind of perfect performance" in the opening one-dayer.

The Aussies and India have traded wins so far across the multi-format series, which is tied at four points apiece, with the hosts playing catch-up after dropping the first and third T20Is.

India, meanwhile, are confident captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be fit to feature in the second ODI, after she sat out the tourists' fielding innings in Brisbane with a knee complaint, with allrounder Deepti Sharma on Friday declaring her skipper was "fit and fine".

After a "perfect performance", Australia's women's cricketers will continue an insular approach against India in their limited-overs series, allrounder Ash Gardner says.

After India trumped their hosts 2-1 in the T20 series, Australia hit back with a comprehensive six-wicket win in the opener of the 50-over series in Brisbane.

Harmanpreet stays off the field after picking up knee injury

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Harmanpreet Kaur has picked up an injury and couldn't go out to field during India's defence of their 214 against Australia in the first ODI at Brisbane's Allan Border Field on Tuesday.

A BCCI media statement after India's innings, where Harmanpreet scored a half-century, said she had "sustaining an injury to her left knee while batting" and the medical team "is monitoring her progress". Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana led India in Harmanpreet's absence.

It was not clear when Harmanpreet picked up the injury, but she did receive some on-field treatment at the end of the 38th over of India's innings, when she was on 40 from 67 balls. She continued till the 44th over before falling for 53 off 84 balls, having put up a 53-run stand in 61 balls with Kashvee Gautam, who scored 43 in 44 balls before becoming the last batter out.

Harmanpreet Kaur slams her sixth WODI fifty vs Australia: Stats

Team India's batting woes continued in the first Women's ODI of the three-match series against Australia.
Despite half-centuries from Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, the Women in Blue were bowled out for a mere 214 runs in 48.3 overs at Brisbane's Allan Border Field on Tuesday.
While Mandhana did well in the first half of the innings, Kaur batted well with the lower order to power her team past 200.
Here we look at Kaur's performance and stats.

Australia's bowlers wreaked havoc on India's batting order, leaving the visitors reeling at 52/3.
Kaur arrived at five as her 48-run stand with Mandhana (58) took the team past 100.
The former further added 37 runs with Richa Ghosh (23) before being involved in a vital 57-run partnership with Kashvee Gautam (43).
Kaur eventually went down as the seventh batter as India finished at 214/10.

Kings Announce Russell Westbrook News Before Mavericks Game

Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook has been a solid veteran presence in his first year with the organization. Unfortunately for the Kings, it has not translated into much success, as the team owns a 13‑47 record and sits at the bottom of the Western Conference.

The franchise appears headed toward a full rebuild, leaving Westbrook with little meaningful team success to play for. Even so, he has unquestionably outperformed his $3.6 million veteran‑minimum salary.

The 37‑year‑old is averaging 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and 33.8% from beyond the arc across 56 games. He has remained effective late into his career because his pace, physicality and ability to pressure the rim still create advantages that few guards can consistently generate on the offensive end.

3 storylines to follow as the Dallas Mavericks host the Sacramento Kings

Still down Cooper Flagg, Dallas tries to put together a win-streak against an injured Sacramento Kings

Don’t worry – we’ll all get through this one together.

After a tight game in Indiana and a dicey last-minute flight to Brooklyn, the Dallas Mavericks head back home to host the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night. Your feelings about this matchup depends entirely on your current operating theory of the Mavericks: if you’re team tank, this is a nail-biter, one of several dice-rolls that will have a material impact on Dallas’ lottery odds in the coming offseason. If you’re team let’s-get-out-there-and-try-our-best, this is likely a breezy contest, as few teams in the Association have the moxie to truly out-bad this Kings squad.

Pakistan declares 'open war' against Afghanistan as Kabul hit by air strikes

Pakistan has bombed major cities in Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul.

The Pakistani defence minister declared the neighbours were at "open war" following months of clashes.

Islamabad says Pakistani Taliban leaders operate from Afghan territory and use it as a safe haven to plan attacks inside Pakistan, a charge the Afghan Taliban denies.

Pakistan has carried out air strikes in Kabul and two other Afghan provinces, according to a spokesperson for Afghanistan's government.

The strikes came early on Friday, local time, hours after Afghanistan launched a cross-border attack on Pakistan, in the latest escalation of violence between the neighbouring countries that has made a Qatar-mediated ceasefire appear increasingly shaky.

Escalation of violence between the volatile neighbours makes a Qatar-mediated ceasefire appear increasingly shaky

Pakistan bombed Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul and two other provinces on Friday, hours after a cross-border attack, the latest escalation of violence between the volatile neighbours who signed a Qatar-mediated ceasefire in 2025.

Following months of tit-for-tat clashes, Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops on Thursday night in what the Taliban government said was retaliation for earlier deadly air strikes.

Hours later, at least three explosions were heard in Kabul on Friday morning, but there was no immediate information on the exact location of the strikes in the Afghan capital, or of any potential casualties.

Afghanistan launches attacks against Pakistan, draws ‘immediate response’

Afghanistan says ‘large-scale offensive operations’ launched; Pakistan reports inflicting ‘heavy casualties’ in border clashes.

Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities say they have launched attacks against Pakistan’s military positions along their border in response to Pakistani air strikes last week, as Pakistan said its forces had retaliated.

The media office of Afghanistan’s military corps in the east said in a statement that “heavy clashes” began late on Thursday “in response to the recent air strikes carried out by Pakistani forces in Nangarhar and Paktia” provinces.

“In response ‌to repeated provocations and violations by Pakistani military circles, large-scale offensive operations have been launched against Pakistani military positions and installations along the Durand Line,” Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid wrote in a post on X.

The polls have closed in Gorton and Denton in Manchester, where locals have been voting for their next MP

Polls put seat in three-way dead heat with Labour facing threats from Reform and Green party in once safe seat

The Gorton and Denton byelection is the biggest electoral test yet for Keir Starmer before what are expected to be disastrous results for Labour in the May local elections. Polls put the race in a three-way dead heat, making it nearly impossible to call.

The vote is particularly symbolic because of the threat Labour faces from Reform UK and the Green party in a once safe seat. Should Labour lose, it will put the spotlight back on Starmer’s decision to block Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, from contesting the seat.

A seemingly standard by-election in the UK could serve as a make or break moment for Britain's prime minister Keir Starmer.

His premiership has been under immense pressure amid the rising appeal of populist leaders on the left and right wings of British politics as well as from within his own Labor party.

Recent polling for the constituency of Gorton and Denton, encased in the northern Labor stronghold of Manchester, has the government finishing second or third behind the Greens or the right-wing Reform.

Police have charged two men over the alleged abduction and murder of Chris Baghsarain. (Supplied: NSW Police)

Two men have been charged over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Sydney grandfather Chris Baghsarian.

The 85-year-old was abducted from his home in North Ryde at 5am on February 13, in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity.

Gerard Andrews, 29, and Daniel Stevens, 24, did not apply for bail when they fronted court on Thursday.

A lawyer for one of the men charged over the kidnapping and murder of Sydney grandfather Chris Baghsarian says his client is "no mastermind".

The 85-year-old was abducted from his home in North Ryde in the early hours of February 13, in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity.

The crucial mistakes that brought Chris Baghsarian’s alleged killers undone

The grandfather’s alleged killers botched a crime that gripped Sydney and blurred the line between innocent bystanders and the criminal underworld.

From the moment Chris Baghsarian was taken from his North Ryde home, detectives knew something wasn’t right; the 85-year-old widower lived a quiet life on his own, had never come to the attention of police, had no enemies and, as far as investigators could tell, had no reason to be the target of an abduction.

Within hours, it appeared certain that whoever snatched Baghsarian had made a grave mistake. Rather than making off with their intended target – the father of a convicted armed robber with links to the Alameddine crime family living a few doors down – the masked men had allegedly taken an innocent grandfather living out his later years in Sydney suburbia.

Laneway 2026: a tumor that metastasised

From its humble beginnings in a literal alleyway containing 1,400 people in Melbourne’s Caledonian Lane, St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival is now a pan-Australian and New Zealand festival that attracted 50,000 people in Sydney on the 8th of February.

At a time when music festivals in Australia are fighting to stay afloat, Laneway continues to surprise, pulling artists like Chappell Roan, Geese, Yung Lean and Bladee, and PinkPantheress all in one run this year. Last year, they pulled Charli XCX as a headliner. This year, they proved that it wasn’t just luck, but deliberate attunement to what the public wants. Like Charli, Chappell Roan had already passed from being an online sensation to a household name by the time she landed in Australia.

Laneway Is Bringing Music And Mayhem To Mardi Gras

As the sun sets on Mardi Gras 2026, there is one Sydney street that will still be ablaze with the last and loudest roars of ecstatica. Where you’ll lose your last LOOP earplug and forget to care, and where what’s left of your glitter vest will be reduced to street confetti. Yep, you guessed it — Laneway is back.

On Sunday, March 1 at 2pm, Sydney’s beloved Beresford and adjacent Hill Street will turn into the Mardi Gras kick ons that keeps on kicking. Expect disco and house bangers, enough queer joy to (mostly) assuage the burning in your calves, and, as always, a killer line up.

INTO THE MOSH 126: LANEWAY | SYDNEY | REVIEW

Well, we actually begin at 1.29PM, arriving at the festival almost an hour late. Things happen; friends take long to get ready, and the trains run slow here in Sydney, especially when it rains. So unfortunately, Laneway starts with myself and my friends missing Blusher, The Belair Lip Bombs, Cavetown, and walking past Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers on our way to view Gigi Perez.

Fortunately, I have had many chances to see a few of them, specifically Blusher opening for Aurora as well as at Sydney’s own Fair Day, and they were incredible as always. The Belair Lip Bombs have been an incredible band, who have performed at Bigsound in Brisbane while I was up there interviewing and photographing various musicians. And, Teen Jesus was an incredible act I managed to catch in Melbourne a while back, and may I just say that show was incredible. (And reminded me to re-purchase ear protection as I am always caught lacking).
