Melbourne's Supreme Court battle to land Zac Lomax has taken on added importance after the Storm lost star winger Xavier Coates for the first nine rounds of the season.

Melbourne confirmed early Friday morning Coates would need to undergo surgery just weeks out from their season opener against Parramatta, sidelining him for two months.

The injury is the same one that forced Maroons star Coates to miss last year's Ashes series in England, following Melbourne's grand-final loss to Brisbane.

"Unfortunately, he has not been able to progress as we would have hoped," Melbourne's football director Frank Ponissi said.

Eucalyptus sells to New York-listed healthcare giant in $1.6b deal

Eucalyptus, the weight loss start-up that has become one of the country’s biggest health companies, is being sold to New York-listed obesity drugs giant Hims & Hers Health for more than $1.6 billion, in a major payday for its 35-year-old co-founder and venture funds.

San Francisco-based Hims & Hers said late on Thursday that it would acquire the seven-year-old Australian company, which runs popular weight-loss brands Pilot and Juniper as well as a fertility service known as Kin, in an all-cash deal that would turn Eucalyptus into its international division.

February 18 Cybersecurity Tips: Stop Tax-Season Phone and Email Scams

As UK taxpayers file returns, we need cybersecurity tips that stop tax refund scams before they drain accounts. Fraudsters copy HMRC by phone, email, text and even letters to grab bank details and National Insurance numbers. That risk also hits banks and fintechs through higher fraud losses and security costs. Today’s guide gives quick checks, safe reporting routes and practical investor angles for GB readers. Use it to verify first, act fast and keep your money and data safe.

Scammers spoof “HMRC” on caller ID, demand instant payment, or offer a surprise refund if you share bank details. They push gift cards, crypto or bank transfers and threaten arrest or legal action. Hang-ups happen if you question them. Caller ID can be faked, so treat urgency as a red flag. Recent warnings show tax-season phone phishing is rising source.

Protect Yourself From Tax-Related Identity Theft: Get an Identity Protection PIN

If someone files a fraudulent tax return using your name and identifying information, resolving the issue can be time-consuming and frustrating. Even when the IRS detects and stops the false return – which it is often able to do – subsequent returns filed under your Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), including your legitimate return, may be flagged for additional review. Resolving tax-related identity theft can take taxpayers months and in many cases years, to work through the IRS’s heightened identity verification requirements to get their refunds, as taxpayers are the ones who bear the burden of proving their identity.

New MacBook with ‘fun colors’ sounds like the best Mac for most people

For years now, the best Mac for most people has been the MacBook Air. But that may be about to change, with a revival of the suffix-free ‘MacBook’ coming soon.

The last time Apple launched a new ‘MacBook’ was 2015, and the product clearly seemed aimed at dethroning the MacBook Air.

Like the Air, that new MacBook specialized in being thin and light, it eliminated ports, and it introduced a brand new look set to define the future of Mac design.

But despite gaining some loyal fans, the MacBook never caught on with the general public. Instead, most users preferred to keep buying the cheaper MacBook Air.

Marc Andreessen made a dire software prediction 15 years ago. Now it’s happening in a way nobody imagined

On Aug. 20, 2011, legendary venture capitalist Marc Andreessen published a blog post—and an accompanying essay in the Wall Street Journal—that would become the sacred texts of the Silicon Valley bull run. Titled “Why Software Is Eating the World,” he argued that the global economy was undergoing a “dramatic and broad technological and economic shift” and that software companies were poised to take over large swaths of the industry.

Fifteen years later, in February 2026, Andreessen’s prophecy has been fulfilled in a manner that even the biggest bulls failed to predict. Software did indeed eat retail (Amazon), video (Netflix), music (Spotify), and telecommunications (Skype) just as Andreessen predicted, but the market got a $1 trillion shock in February because something was eating software itself. That something, of course, was artificial intelligence.

The software industry’s 'wheel of fate' over 15 years: After taking over the world, it faces backlash from AI itself!

① In 2011, Marc Andreessen predicted that software would take over the global economy. Fifteen years later, software has indeed “consumed” industries such as retail, video, music, and telecommunications. However, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is rewriting this narrative; ② Morgan Stanley’s software analysts believe that AI, as a form of “software,” is developing rapidly and is beginning to erode the software industry itself.

Cailian Press, February 14 (Edited by Huang Junzhi) On August 20, 2011, legendary venture capitalist Marc Andreessen predicted that the global economy was undergoing a “profound and widespread technological and economic transformation,” and that software companies were poised to take over a significant portion of the economy.

Dutch Good Growth Fund Partners with First Circle Capital to Boost Early-Stage African Fintech

By combining disciplined governance with sector expertise, FCC aims to drive meaningful growth in Africa’s fintech ecosystem while promoting sustainable and inclusive economic development.

The Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF)  has announced a partnership with First Circle Capital (FCC),  a female-led, first-time fund manager focused on early-stage venture capital in Africa. FCC is launching a fund dedicated to supporting pre-seed and seed-stage fintech companies across the continent, targeting the next generation of high-growth, high-impact digital financial innovators.

FCC’s team combines deep expertise in fintech, investment, and operational management, complemented by a network of local venture partners who assist with sourcing, due diligence, and hands-on portfolio support. The fund employs a structured value-creation strategy based on four key pillars:

Dutch Good Growth Fund injects $3M into First Circle Capital to fuel African fintech innovation

The Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF), a prominent public investment vehicle from the Netherlands, has announced a strategic $3 million seed investment into First Circle Capital (FCC). This partnership is specifically engineered to catalyze the next generation of African financial technology by providing essential “first-check” capital. Led by an all-female executive team, FCC is uniquely positioned to identify and nurture pre-seed and seed-stage startups that are dedicated to bridging the financial inclusion gap across the continent.

The investment from DGGF represents a high-conviction bet on the role of entrepreneurship in driving economic stability within emerging markets.

This capital injection arrives at a pivotal time for African venture capital. While the “funding winter” has led to increased diversification in other sectors, fintech remains the engine of the continent’s digital economy.
