Rafael Nadal 'living in constant pain' and shares heartbreaking three-word message

It’s been almost two years since Rafael Nadal retired from professional tennis at the Davis Cup Finals, and the 22-time Grand Slam champion has now shed light on the “pain” he felt on a daily basis. Nadal was famously injury-prone compared to his two greatest rivals, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard was diagnosed with Muller-Weiss syndrome very early in his career, a degenerative bone disorder in his left foot. It troubled him throughout his playing years, while he also faced wrist, rib and hip injuries, among others.

Since ending his career in November 2024, Nadal has barely touched a racket. The former world No. 1 did get back out on the court at the recent Rafa Nadal Academy Slam, an exhibition event celebrating 10 years of his Mallorcan tennis centre. But the 40-year-old has admitted he now even forgets he was a tennis player, adding: “Life keeps going.”

Rafael Nadal reveals ‘only positive’ from his injuries and what is ‘difficult’ to find after retiring

Rafael Nadal has named the “only positive” that has come from his string of injuries during his playing career.

The Spaniard won a remarkable 22 Grand Slams, reached No 1 in the world, claimed a gold medal at the Olympics in both singles and doubles, and earned the moniker ‘The King of Clay’ as he dominated the red dirt surface in unprecedented ways.

However, the 40-year-old was struck down by severe knee tendinitis, iliopsoas tears in his hip, abdominal tears, rib fractures, and a congenital foot injury that nearly ended his career as a teenager.

The wear and tear of more than 20 years on the ATP Tour eventually took its toll, and Nadal was forced to retire at the age of 38 in 2024 following another hip injury.

Peres Jepchirchir: Women's world marathon provisionally suspended for doping

Peres Jepchirchir won the 2026 Sydney marathon by three minutes and 40 seconds

Olympic and World Championships marathon gold medallist Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit after an out-of-competition sample tested positive for EPO.

Kenyan Jepchirchir provided the sample prior to winning the Sydney Marathon on 30 August 2026.

The 33-year-old clocked a time of two hours, 18 minutes and 31 seconds to win in Sydney.

EPO, or erythropoietin, is a natural substance produced within the kidneys that stimulates the creation of new red blood cells.

If injected, it is only detectable in the urine or blood for a short window of time, and increases the amount of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the muscles, in the blood stream.

World and Olympic marathon champion Jepchirchir suspended after positive doping test

In a fresh hammer blow for Kenyan athletics, world marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended for doping, the Athletics Integrity Unit announced on Friday.

The highly-decorated 33-year-old Kenyan, who won Olympic gold in the Covid-delayed Tokyo Games in 2021, was suspended after an out-of-competition sample tested positive for banned blood booster EPO.

The athlete is provisionally suspended while the case is investigated, while the AIU said Jepchirchir’s out-of-competition sample had been collected in Kenya prior to her recent Sydney Marathon victory.

More than 140 Kenyan athletes, including current women’s marathon world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich, have been suspended or banned by the AIU since 2017.

A US judge has ordered Donald Trump appear at a deposition as part of his lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation.

The US president is suing the BBC, alleging it defamed him by splicing together two pieces of his speech made to supporters before they stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

A US judge has ordered President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition in his $US10 billion ($14.2 billion) defamation lawsuit against the BBC by December 11.

The order from federal magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett came as lawyers for the British broadcaster complained that Mr Trump had delayed his appearance.

US judge orders Trump to sit for deposition in $10bn lawsuit against BBC | Donald Trump

Judge threatens to dismiss Trump’s BBC lawsuit unless he cooperates with discovery process and sits for deposition

Donald Trump has been ordered by a US judge to cooperate with the discovery process mandated for his lawsuit against the BBC and to sit for a deposition by 11 December – or else he could be subject to sanctions, including the possible dismissal of the $10bn lawsuit.

The lawsuit stems from a Panorama documentary aired by the BBC that spliced together two comments made nearly an hour apart by Trump during a rally on 6 January 2021, before the US Capitol riot. The BBC has acknowledged that this specific edit was misleading, but Trump has gone on to claim, falsely, that the BBC did not just edit his speech but used AI to insert words into his speech.

A US judge has ordered President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition in his $US10 billion ($14.2 billion) defamation lawsuit against the BBC by December 11.

The order from federal magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett on Thursday (US time) came as lawyers for the British broadcaster complained that Trump had delayed his appearance in his own lawsuit.

Charles Tobin, the lawyer for the BBC, said that with two months left in the discovery period, “we still haven’t been able to depose the plaintiff”.

Meanwhile, it remained uncertain whether former special counsel Jack Smith would be allowed to sit for a deposition. Federal rules require current and former employees to receive permission from agency heads before testifying in court cases. Smith has requested permission but has not received an answer, and the judge ruled that the department must respond to him by November 2.

Kings with demolition job on Hawks

The Sydney Kings finished the first half on an 11-2 run and then dominated the third quarter with Andrew Carr collecting 20 rebounds and Kendric Davis having 23 points and 14 assists in an emphatic 108-82 win over the Illawarra Hawks.

The Hawks were fresh off a win on the road to Melbourne United and back home at the WIN Entertainment Centre trying to build some momentum against the reigning champs.

It was the first away game of the season for the Kings even though they did play New Zealand in Canberra, and they managed to grab the momentum heading into half-time with an 11-2 run to be leading 48-36.

Who has the edge? Making the case for the Ningbo semifinalists

A surging Leylah Fernandez, playing some of her best tennis of the season over the past month, will take on Marie Bouzkova in the first semifinal.

In the second, top seed and defending champion Elena Rybakina will play Diana Shnaider, in pursuit of her first WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz title of the year.

We make the case for the semifinalists ahead of their matches on Saturday.

After a season-long race, the world's top players converge in the California desert with the WTA's biggest title still to be won.

Shnaider was at her best against Iva Jovic on Friday, employing the perfect blend of touch and power in the 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win. After Jovic leveled the match, Shnaider rebounded with conviction in the decider, winning 79 percent of her first-serve points and never facing a break point. The World No. 13, who defeated Yulia Putintseva and Alexandra Eala in her first two matches this week, continues her stretch of excellent tennis in Ningbo. She reached the final in her debut in 2023 and made the semis last year, and is now 10-3 at this tournament.

Avengers: Doomsday's surprising main characters revealed ahead of new trailer

The amount of days until Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters are whittling down and fans are ready for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's big extravaganza. The crossover movie will go bigger than the franchise ever has before, bringing heroes from across the multiverse together in a bid to save their worlds and defeat Doctor Doom, who poses the biggest threat that Earth's Mightiest Heroes have ever faced.

With a cast of 30+ Marvel stars at its disposal, the MCU movie is going to feature a who's who of heroes, villains, and everything in between. Unlike previous Avengers movies, however, there is no single, established Avengers team right out of the gate – which has made predicting the main characters pretty difficult. Honestly, there is a case for multiple characters to take the reins, and that certainly keeps things interesting.

Avengers: Doomsday Artwork Reveals Sam Wilson's New Team Of Avengers — And There's One Surprise Addition

Following the events of Captain America: Brave New World, Sam Wilson has assembled a new team of Avengers. Ahead of their debut in this December's Avengers: Doomsday, the roster has been officially revealed, and it's an impressive lineup.

As you can see in the X posts below, Cap will join the fight against Doctor Doom alongside Thor, Shang-Chi, The Falcon, Ant-Man, and former Captain America, Steve Rogers.

We didn't necessarily expect the latter to be associated with any one team, so his inclusion is a surprise…it also lends the group some major star power.

Elsewhere, there's a new look at Doctor Doom, and character descriptions for Sam and Joaquin Torres. The upcoming book also includes insights into what to expect from this iteration of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Unsurprisingly, the Avengers will "join forces with new allies, in order to protect the world from the impending threat."

Family Raises Concern Over Perth Hospital Shackling

According to The Guardian, the family of a 16-year-old Indigenous girl say she was shackled to a Perth hospital bed after being taken into custody. A photograph shared by the family showed her ankles bound in chains and locked to the underside of the bed. Her grandmother said the teenager should have been treated “like a human being”.

The grandmother, who cannot be identified to protect her grandchild’s identity, alleged police used excessive force during an arrest over allegations of child neglect. She said the girl was dragged while topless and later had scratches on her breasts and stomach. The teenager, who gave birth several months ago, was taken to hospital for an undisclosed health issue while in the custody of justice department staff.

The Australian insists Al-Hamdan brings qualities that make him an influential figure in his plans, even on the days he doesn't get a long spell on the pitch. The striker, Postecoglou says, gives everything to help Al-Nassr hit their targets.

Wallaroos complete Scotland sweep as retiring Smith gets standing ovation despite red

The Wallaroos completed their three-game sweep over Scotland with a 38-31 win on Friday in a spicy contest that featured biting accusations and a string of yellow cards.

Australia produced plenty of classy moments in Canberrabut again lacked discipline in tackles and around the ruck to keep the tourists in it. The hosts received four yellow cards, with the retiring centre Cecilia Smith earning two of those to finish her 34-Test career on a red.

Scotland had two players sent to the sin bin and it could have been far uglier if the Wallaroos centre Georgina Friedrichs’ accusations of biting had been verified on review. But the officials saw no evidence and there were no bite marks on Friedrich’s forearm, so the referee waved the complaints away.

The Wallaroos will finish up their 2026 season as they host Scotland in Canberra.

The Australians can complete the clean sweep with victory after a thumping win last weekend in Sydney.

It's an emotional game for the hosts amid retirements and milestones, eager to build three straight wins to finish the season.
