TicketNetwork Targets Resale Conditions in DOJ’s Live Nation-Ticketmaster Settlement

Home » TicketNetwork Targets Resale Conditions in DOJ’s Live Nation-Ticketmaster Settlement

TicketNetwork is urging a federal court to strengthen the Justice Department’s proposed Live Nation-Ticketmaster antitrust settlement, targeting provisions that could make a rival’s access to new primary-ticketing opportunities depend partly on how it operates its separate resale business.

In Tunney Act comments submitted Sept. 4, TicketNetwork argues that the settlement takes an important step by recognizing that Ticketmaster’s consumer-facing marketplace can be separated from the back-end technology that creates, manages and validates tickets. But the company says the proposed rules could still leave Ticketmaster controlling which competitors can use that infrastructure and under what conditions.

The public comment period for the settlement between Live Nation and the Department of Justice closed Sept. 4 and there was a last-minute flurry of objections to the deal from Live Nation and Ticketmaster competitors and long-time opponents.

The public comment period is required by the Tunney Act, the Nixon-era legislation designed to give judicial oversight to antitrust settlements and prevent corruption. Under that law, U.S. District Judge Arun Subrmanian must approve the agreement. He has said he’s likely to make his decision on the settlement between mid-September and mid-October.

NIVA Calls for Ticketmaster Breakup, 50% Cap on Live Nation Tour Control

Home » NIVA Calls for Ticketmaster Breakup, 50% Cap on Live Nation Tour Control

The National Independent Venue Association is urging a federal court to reject the Justice Department’s proposed Live Nation settlement unless it is substantially rewritten to include structural remedies, including a breakup of Live Nation and Ticketmaster and a new rule barring Live Nation from promoting more than half of any major artist’s U.S. tour.

NIVA’s formal Tunney Act comments, submitted Sept. 4, go considerably further than simply criticizing the behavioral restrictions negotiated between Live Nation and the Justice Department. The independent venue trade group argues that meaningful competition cannot return without attacking Live Nation’s control over entire tours, separating Ticketmaster from the concert promoter, divesting Live Nation-controlled artist management businesses and directing financial relief toward independent stages harmed by the company’s market power.

    Introducing Claude Opus 5.5

We’re introducing Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in our new Claude 5.5 family. It performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work and costs 40% less to run than Opus 5.

Claude Opus 5.5 is our first release since we called for pacing the frontier. It was tested before release by external evaluators, including Frontier Design and METR. On our automated behavioral audit, the most comprehensive alignment test we run, Opus 5.5 is the strongest-performing model we’ve tested to date. It also comes with the safeguards we’ve developed for our most capable models.

Here are some of the improvements you can expect from Opus 5.5:

Anthropic and OpenAI roll out cheaper models in first release since call for slowdown

Anthropic and OpenAI on Tuesday each announced new, less costly artificial intelligence models as both frontier labs continue to face stiff competition from cheaper, open-weight competitors.

OpenAI introduced additional tiers to its GPT-6 family, with GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, slashing the API prices by 50% compared with GPT-5.6 promotional pricing.

Sol, which is a tier below Astra, is meant for more complex workloads like coding, while the company's Luna offering is geared toward "high-volume tasks" such as extracting information or summarizing documents, the company wrote.

Anthropic unveiled Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday, its latest release in the new Claude 5.5 model family. The company described the latest release as a more token-efficient version that will cost around 40% less to run than the company's Opus 5.

Inside the crackdown on a $23 billion black market

Black market fishing costs legal operators billions of dollars globally per year.

Australian authorities are cracking down on the industry, issuing large fines and crushing boats.

Authorities are looking to scale up their surveillance equipment to combat the issue.

He looks like an ordinary angler, but this 43-year-old man is anything but.

In the waters between Brisbane and Russell Island, he was caught poaching mud crabs and selling them in south-east Queensland.

"Mud crabs can retail anywhere up to $64 a kilo for high-quality, top-grade mud crabs," said Graeme Bolton, director-general of Queensland's Department of Primary Industries.

Last year, other seafood species such as threadfin salmon, molluscs and mulloway were uncovered at the man's house following a raid by fisheries officers.

Fisherman fined $10,000 and boat destroyed amid crackdown on illegal trend in Aussie waters

As one Aussie state continues cracking down on the illegal seafood trade, fishers are being warned they could lose their boats and face hefty fines.

A Queensland man was fined $10,000 after Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol (QBFP) officers uncovered an illegal seafood operation involving the sale of mud crabs, king threadfin salmon and mulloway.

The marine animals were taken from Queensland waters without the required commercial authority, QBFP said.

The man was targeted and surveilled by officers who suspected wrongdoing as part of their ongoing crackdown on the black market seafood trade.

Australia's illicit seafood trade is estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars annually.

Australia Steps Up Fight Against Illegal Fishing

According to ABC News, Australian authorities are increasing enforcement against illegal fishing, an illicit trade that damages legal fishers and marine ecosystems. Globally, organised illegal fishing is estimated to cost legal fisheries up to $23 billion each year. The activity can include fishing in protected reserves, breaching catch quotas, using banned gear and international smuggling, and can be linked to labour exploitation, human rights abuses and trafficking of illicit goods.

In Queensland, a 43-year-old man caught poaching mud crabs in waters between Brisbane and Russell Island and selling them in south-east Queensland was convicted, fined $10,000 and had his boat destroyed. Fisheries officers had also found species including threadfin salmon, molluscs and mulloway at his home following a raid. Queensland Department of Primary Industries director-general Graeme Bolton said high-quality mud crabs can retail for up to $64 a kilogram, making them valuable, easy to transport and readily sold on the black market.

Piers Morgan says he will sue Earl Spencer over ‘fabricated inaccuracies’

Broadcaster refutes memoir claim that he was behind publication of gym photos of Diana, Princess of Wales

Piers Morgan has said he will sue Earl Spencer over “fabricated inaccuracies” and “examples of brazen falsity” in his book about Diana, Princess of Wales.

The earl has made a series of claims in Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, including that King Charles said “we’ll forget her soon enough” after she died, which has prompted a war of words between him and Buckingham Palace.

The book, which is out now, also contains allegations about Morgan, a former tabloid newspaper editor, who has strongly rebuked the claims.

Piers Morgan Wins Apology From Princess Diana’s Brother Over “Bulls***” Claim In Bombshell Memoir

Piers Morgan has received an apology from Charles Spencer, brother of the late Princess Diana, over an inaccurate claim in the Earl’s bombshell memoir.

Spencer’s book, Swan Song, has dominated the headlines in the UK for days following his explosive allegation that King Charles III said Diana would soon be forgotten in the aftermath of her death.

Morgan drew attention to another section of Spencer’s book, in which the Earl claimed that Morgan published “intrusive” images of Diana in a gym while he was editor of The Daily Mirror. “I come across in the despicable manner imaginable,” Morgan said of Spencer’s book. “There’s just one problem — it’s all bulls***. And very easy bulls*** for me to prove it.”

Earl Spencer apologises to Piers Morgan over factual error in Diana book

Earl Spencer has apologised to Piers Morgan over a factual error in his new book about Diana, Princess of Wales.

In his memoir, Earl Spencer said Morgan was editor of the Daily Mirror when the Mirror Group published "highly intrusive photographs of Princess Diana at the gym".

Earl Spencer, Diana's brother, admitted "his assumption was incorrect" and "apologises to Mr Morgan for this error", a statement said.

Morgan has acknowledged Earl Spencer's apology, but doubled down on his threat of legal action.

In a post on social media after the apology, Morgan said: "I am pursuing legal action against him and his publisher Penguin to have the lies removed, and damages paid to the King's Trust."

Australia confirms jet parts went missing in Hong Kong, sparking China security fears

Parts of an F-35 aircraft went missing in Hong Kong after being shipped from Australia. (Supplied: ADF)

A shipment of F-35 jet parts were unexpectedly sent to Hong Kong after leaving Australia earlier this year.

That sparked concerns that China might have accessed technological secrets from the US jet fighter program.

Defence Minister Richard Marles played down the significance of the apparent security breach and said the US and Lockheed Martin were investigating.

Defence Minister Richard Marles has confirmed Australia is helping the US investigate how F-35 jet fighter parts were mistakenly diverted to Hong Kong, but says no technologically "sensitive" components have been lost.

Australia confirms F-35 fighter jet parts were mistakenly diverted to Hong Kong

Australia’s defense minister said Tuesday that F-35 fighter jet parts had been mistakenly diverted to Hong Kong, following reports US lawmakers were investigating the mishap amid concerns about the possibility of China getting access to sensitive US military technology.

“We’ve been made aware of this, and we’re obviously working with the United States and Lockheed in terms of how we can assist in this investigation,” Defense Minister Richard Marles told reporters in Adelaide.

Politico first reported last week that the F-35 parts shipment bound for the United States for repairs were rerouted in transit from Australia this summer, citing three people familiar with the matter.

Classified Australian F-35 parts disappear in Hong Kong

First reported in Politico and later confirmed by the Pentagon, the shipment of components from Australia was bound for the United States for repairs before it was rerouted to Hong Kong and disappeared.

The shipment reportedly included an F-35 canopy, which is covered in a sensitive radar-absorbent material that degrades over time and requires subsequent repair or replacement. The nature of prior generations of radar-resistant canopy materials, such as gold used on the F-16 fighter jets from the late 1980s, were classified.

Australia does not possess a facility capable of repairing the canopies for the RAAF’s fleet of 72 F-35 fighters.

Episode 30 recap: Contestant ‘blows up’ at rival in ‘yelling’ match as challenge pushes team to the edge

Welcome to another fun-filled week on The Block, full of sunshine, rainbows and happy families!

Kitchen Week really got tempers flaring between the Blockheads, so what better way to let off steam than by judging each other in Open for Inspections?

Adam and Jolene‘s changed layout gets some ums and ahs, and despite the judges heaping praise on Tayla’s styling for, well, the first time ever, the teams are less enthused by House 5’s room.

Courtney and Sev like the layout of Chantel and Wyatt’s last place kitchen better than Adam and Jolene’s winner, but our farming duo definitely don’t feel the same.

The Block 2026 Episode 30 recap: Tayla and Jolene at each other’s throats in embarrassing spectacle

A foul-mouthed tirade in the middle of Freedom furniture is the culmination of tonight’s episode, but first the teams inspect one another’s kitchens.

Adam and Jolene’s winning room won high praise from everyone except Courtney, who didn’t like the flipped layout that had impressed the judges.

Sev wasn’t a fan of Lisa and Rosco’s dark timber cabinetry.

“It’s moody Melbourne, not coastal Mt Eliza,” she says, and then gently suggests her and Courtney’s loss of kitchen week despite having $250,000 worth of upgraded appliances might have been because it locked them into a more industrial vibe.

How can governments re-organize themselves to be AI-enabled? Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has more of his own brand of 'helpful' suggestions to share

As the US and China governments prepare to sit down together in Washington and the wider question of AI policy very much in the mainstream, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change has staged another of its policy interventions, replete with yet another Blairite blandishment:

The question leaders should be asking themselves is not whether AI is a good thing or a bad thing. Rather, it is simply the thing.

OK, if we can get past the essential triteness of that soundbite, what are the implications for political leaders? The Institute, the mouthpiece of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has what it thinks is the answer:

Tony Blair warns leaders to resist growing AI ‘techlash’

Tony Blair has warned governments against bowing to a growing “techlash” over AI, arguing that slowing adoption could leave countries poorer and less secure as concerns over the technology mount.

A report from the Tony Blair Institute (TBI), published on Monday, said political leaders in the US and UK were facing growing pressure to hold back AI but warned that “doing less” may carry significant long-term costs for economic growth and national security. It lands after a bruising fortnight for an industry more accustomed to selling the upside of AI than debating whether it could kill its customers.

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon sparked a new wave of concern this month after quitting the company and warning that developers were “gambling with our lives”, while Anthropic boss Dario Amodei and OpenAI chief Sam Altman have since backed calls to “pace” development at the frontier.

Adam Simpson backs away from applying to coach North Melbourne after battling ‘awkward’ situation

Adam Simpson has backed away from applying to coach his beloved former club North Melbourne.

A two-time Kangaroos premiership player and former captain, the 50-year-old has been out of coaching since leaving West Coast late in the 2024 season.

North’s shock decision to sack Alastair Clarkson earlier this month thrust Simpson back into the spotlight just a month after he helped Carlton appoint Josh Fraser as their new coach.

Fellow North great John Longmire, who has remained at Sydney since stepping down as Swans coach at the end of 2024, has also been mooted for a return to Arden St.

Simpson met with Roos football boss Todd Viney and CEO Jen Watt this week as the club looks to form a shortlist of candidates.

John Longmire makes call on North Melbourne coaching gig

Premiership-winning coach John Longmire has chosen not to put his name forward for the vacant North Melbourne coaching role.

Longmire coached Sydney from 2011-24 and took the Swans to five Grand Finals and one premiership before ending his senior coach role and moving into another area at the club at the end of 2024.

Seven is reporting that Longmire, after considering applying for the North Melbourne senior coach role, has opted against it.

The Roos are said to be open to all candidates, but it is believed they would ideally target a first-time coach rather than a second-time coach such as Longmire or Adam Simpson; who also recently pulled out of the race for the job.
