Silver’s industrial demand, mining dynamics and free float mean price rally might not impact supply until it overwhelms it – Sprott’s Zhu

Kitco NEWS has a diverse team of journalists reporting on the economy, stock markets, commodities, cryptocurrencies, mining and metals with accuracy and objectivity. Our goal is to help people make informed market decisions through in-depth reporting, daily market roundups, interviews with prominent industry figures, comprehensive coverage (often exclusive) of important industry events and analyses of market-affecting developments.

(Kitco News) – Silver has key differentiators that insulate the impacts of the price action from the underlying supply and demand dynamics – but when investors do pile into silver, the grey metal’s constrained physical supply means the market can go parabolic in a way that gold is unlikely to ever do, according to Kenny Zhu, Director of Research and Investment Strategy at Sprott.

Why silver’s market floor has changed

In this interview, The Silver Institute President and CEO Michael DiRienzo breaks down the structural shifts transforming the global silver market as it decouples from traditional gold-correlated trading patterns.

A cumulative 762 million-ounce (Moz) market deficit over the last five years — equivalent to a full year of global mine output — has left silver facing a severe supply squeeze, compounded by its status as a critical mineral.

While mining companies scale exploration, byproduct limitations continue to constrain supply growth. At the same time, expanding industrial demand across solar energy, electric vehicles (EVs), AI data centres, and nuclear power is setting higher price floors for the metal. This is reinforcing silver’s dual role as both an indispensable technology input and a strategic portfolio hedge.

Silver Price Forecast: China’s Solar Slowdown Threatens Demand

Silver (XAG) trades near $59 an ounce and remains under pressure as the market receives mixed signals from China. Strong exports and policy support could support industrial demand. But rising factory costs and a slowdown in the solar sector increase the risks. The high bond yields also pressure silver because the metal pays no interest. In my view, silver remains vulnerable as it approaches support at $57.50. This article presents the latest developments in China, the main risks to silver prices and the key support and resistance levels to understand the next move in silver.

Singapore Airlines has announced brand new amenity kits from November, and for the first time the carrier will also offer pyjamas in Business Class, long seen by many travellers as a missing feature in this cabin.

The kits are the latest piece of what SIA calls its “elevated end-to-end travel experience”, following the in-flight dining refresh announced at the end of September. The airline will unveil the full package in Singapore in November.

Most importantly, that includes its all-new First and Business Class cabins, a new KrisWorld entertainment system and Starlink Wi-Fi.

As with the dining news, this is a sneak peek at one part of that package. The new seats are still the main event, and the one SIA regulars are really waiting to see.

SiSingapore Airlines is introducing a new range of in-flight amenities across all four cabin classes, bringing luxury skincare products, designer amenity kits, and sleeper suits to more passengers. The new amenities will roll out progressively from November 2026, as part of the airline’s broader plan to elevate the end-to-end travel experience. The airline recently gave us a peek at the new dining options it will introduce in the coming days.

The new collection includes SISLEY skincare products and 100% cotton sleeper suits for Suites and First Class passengers, BYREDO amenity kits and sleeper suits for Business Class customers, and redesigned amenity pouches for passengers travelling in Premium Economy and Economy Class.

Financial influencer Taylor Price joins ‘Varney & Co.’ to break down how shifting your mindset can help Americans grow wealth and achieve the American Dream.

The Social Security Administration on Wednesday announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027.

The COLA is determined using the consumer price index for urban wage earners and clerical workers (CPI-W) data for the third quarter of the year, including the months of July, August and September. It aims to ensure that the purchasing power of Social Security benefits isn't eroded by inflation.

Social Security Benefits to Increase by $75 a Month on Average in 2027: What Retirees Need to Know

Millions of Americans receiving Social Security benefits will see more money in their monthly checks next year.

The Social Security Administration announced on Wednesday, October 14, that benefits will increase by 3.6 percent in 2027, and it marks the largest cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) since 2023.

According to the agency, the increase will give the average retired worker an additional $75 per month, or roughly $900 over the course of an entire year.

The adjustment will affect approximately 76 million Americans who receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

Social Security recipients will begin receiving their increased payments in January 2027, while those collecting SSI will see the adjustment starting on December 31, 2026.

Brilliant finish from Barcola but what movement from Rio Ngumoha. They are absolutely frightened to death of him down that Liverpool right-hand side. He dances around; he doesn't care how many defenders are in front of him.

I'll tell you what, this kid is such a livewire, such a handful. Fronts up his defender, takes little touches, gets himself in the area, and then there's a problem.

Liverpool are looking so dangerous tonight and Ryan Gravenberch has just slammed one off the base of the post.

LASK v Liverpool: Champions League team news

Liverpool are likely to make changes for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with LASK, said Andoni Iraola.

A 23-man squad flew out to Austria from Merseyside for matchday two, with Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak and Dominik Szoboszlai still sidelined.

The trio had each been absent for the Premier League defeat by Manchester City last weekend as a result of fitness issues sustained on international duty.

Asked for an update on them at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, head coach Iraola replied: “They are not far, but it’s difficult to tell you right now any of the three have trained with the group.

IND vs WI: Daren Sammy snacks on guavas with a side of cricketing advice in Hyderabad

The guavas were meant for the players. But during the innings break of the fourth T20I against India, it was West Indies head coach Daren Sammy who seemed to be making the most of them.

With a plate full of the fruit in hand, Sammy looked completely at ease as he walked around, passing on instructions to his batters and having a word in Rovman Powell’s ear. Soon enough, he was walking off alongside 12th man Kamil Pooran, the two chatting away while munching on guavas.

It was an amusing little moment in a break that had otherwise belonged to the West Indies’ batters. They had just hammered their way to a massive 247 for three, putting India under considerable pressure ahead of the chase.

Keemo Paul to Nitish Kumar Reddy, SIX! High and long, and Nitish Kumar Reddy is keeping the fight alive for India. 36 needed off 11 balls now. Full and outside off, but in the slot. Reddy hangs back before whacking it straight back down the ground for a huge six.

Keemo Paul to Nitish Kumar Reddy, WIDE! Banged in halfway down the pitch and wide outside off. This is left alone for a wide, which is called for height.

A boundary-less over by Springer. Absolutely stunning death bowling. India need 43 runs from 12 balls, with the required run rate reading 21.5. Keemo Paul will bowl his final over. 2/33 in 3 overs so far, he has been the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies tonight.

Trust tax overhaul set to raise $40b as businesses warn of accounting turmoil

Business groups are warning years of expensive turmoil will be unleashed by the federal government’s plans for a minimum tax on discretionary trusts as Treasurer Jim Chalmers warns that without reform, the nation’s tax revenue will be eaten away, leaving working Australians exposed to even higher taxes.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Wednesday introduced into parliament the third key budget tax change, imposing a minimum 30 per cent tax on the net income that flows out of the estimated one million discretionary trusts every year.

    Labor’s trust tax costs spiral

The Greens’ threat to block the government’s crackdown on trusts unless it removes the exemption for charities would deprive the not-for-profit sector of billions of dollars in donations, as accounting groups warn the costs of complying with the new regime will be far more than the $1.5 billion the government has estimated over the next decade.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers, trapped between the demands of the business sector and the Greens, introduced the legislation to impose a minimum 30 per cent tax on discretionary trusts into parliament on Wednesday, with the aim of passing it by November.

Private school fees loophole a sticking point in Labor's trust tax plan Greens say

Nick McKim has accused Labor of 'watering down' its trust taxation plans. (ABC News: Ebony ten Broeke/Matt Roberts)

The Greens say a "loophole" for private school fees is a sticking point in Labor's proposed trust laws.

Jim Chalmers will introduce legislation for the 30 per cent minimum tax on discretionary trusts on Wednesday, amid stiff business opposition.

Labor requires the support of the Greens in the Senate to pass the tax hike, given that the Coalition is opposed.

Parents who pay private school fees from their trust funds could escape Labor's proposed trust tax, in what the Greens say is a "loophole" that must be closed.

The last time we saw the character of Sid Baker in Slow Horses she was most decidedly dead. To paraphrase another British TV hit, Monty Python’s famous dead parrot sketch, Sid had ceased to be. She was an ex-spy. A bullet in the head will do that to you.

The bullet hit her early in season one, broadcast in 2022, when she was on a case with her Slough House partner River Cartwright (Jack Lowden). Was that some sexual tension we sensed between them? Why yes, it most definitely was, which made it all the more tragic when Sid got got. And so off Olivia Cooke went to make House of the Dragon, achieve global fame and look back on Slow Horses as the streaming TV mega-hit that got away.

Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 5 Review – ‘Sayonara’

The pieces finally slot into place in the penultimate episode of Slow Horses’ sixth season. With Sid in the custody of the Russians, River is forced to hijack a civilian vehicle and give chase. It’s a breathless opening as both Sid and River are pushed to the absolute limit by a hitman who would give John Wick a run for his money. Both sides absolutely battered and bruised come the end of it but of course this being River Cartwright, he’s not out of the woods yet.

Lamb and his cohort are on the tail of Damien Cantor, finding he is a Russian stooge, keen to expand his media empire, regardless of the moral implications. Lamb and his opposite, Natasha’s first meeting and cat-and-mouse game are particularly enjoyable. The choice of meeting at a children’s ballet also gives this an old-school spy feel. Speaking of Lamb we are treated to more excellent interplay between Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas, never quite sure who has the upper hand.
