South Africa v Australia: first men’s cricket Test, day four – as it happened

Australia are six wickets away from victory after another dream day – with bat and ball – for Matt Renshaw

Australia are heading for victory in Durban after another dominant day. They raced to 314/6 declared in only 58 overs, with Matt Renshaw making 82 and Nic Maddinson a 38-ball 48, before wearing down the South Africans with the ball.

Aiden Markram played an exemplary innings and will resume on 45 not out, but he and David Bedingham (46) were the only men to reach double figures. Bedingham played some eye-catching strokes before falling to the superb Josh Hazlewood.

Renshaw’s dream match continued with his first Test wicket when the South African captain Temba Bavuma was caught at short leg. It’s Renshaw’s match, and barring a miracle it will end in a massive Australia victory tomorrow afternoon.

Proteas batting coach backs shot selection after Day 3 soft dismissals

South Africa struggled with the willow on Day three of the match in Durban, with David Beddingham top scoring with 49 on their way to a 284-run total.

Prince says they have deliberately become less conservative and believes his players are well capable of executing the sweeping shots on the Kingsmead wicket, but were just unlucky at times.

"I think as long as the guys are training these options and playing it fairly well as part of the overall makeup we can accept that. Two phenomenal catches by Steve Smith and sometimes they just beat the fielder or the slip and go for 4 and sometimes it takes a couple of blinders," said Prince

Justice Department investigating major TV networks over suspending pool coverage of Trump

Morning Rundown: Bad blood spills over in Texas Senate race, Kelly Clarkson sparks a viral debate, and the ending that left the NFL in disbelief

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department said it is investigating five major TV broadcast networks for potentially violating federal antitrust laws after the networks temporarily declined to provide pool coverage of President Donald Trump, a department spokesperson said.

The investigation into the networks that make up the White House TV press pool — NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox News — is underway, and the department sent out “civil investigative demands” on Friday, according to a Justice Department official.

Trump’s DOJ probes major TV networks over response to White House ban of CNN

The Justice Department is investigating the five major US TV networks for possible antitrust violations, opening yet another front in the Trump administration’s pressure campaign against the press.

The probe, which one leading First Amendment group called nonsensical, concerns the TV pool, a long-standing arrangement that was disrupted last month when President Donald Trump banned CNN from the White House grounds. The pool is a small, rotating group of journalists that provides coverage of the president and represents the larger press corps.

The TV pool chair at the time said that with Trump “preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties,” there would be “no replacement pool put in place.”

“I’m not the state government where I just keep f—— paying bills and paying bills,” Sandilands told A Current Affair.

The six bedroom, five bathroom, four car estate at Glenorie in Sydney’s north-west has been Sandilands’ passion project since he purchased the property for $3 million in 2022.

He said he had plans to renovate it as a family home.

Kyle Sandilands Sued Over Alleged $240,000 Renovation Debt at Sydney Mansion

Australian radio personality Kyle Sandilands is facing a legal dispute over an alleged $240,000 renovation bill at his multimillion-dollar mansion in Glenorie, north-west Sydney.

Construction company Alter Build Co, run by Andrew Kabourakis and William Teixeira, has launched civil proceedings against Sandilands over money it claims remains outstanding for renovation work at the property.

The dispute centres on the cost of the renovations, with the builders seeking payment while Sandilands has reportedly challenged additional charges that he says exceeded his agreed budget.

According to media reports, the renovation project began in 2025 and included work on the mansion’s kitchen, bathroom and laundry.

Despite long labelling itself a "nation of immigrants", the United States is in the middle of one of the most aggressive immigration crackdowns in modern history.

It was meant to be Donald Trump's strongest card — but with the 3 November midterm elections approaching, the question is whether it could become his biggest downfall.

How immigration is molding the US midterms: ‘Trump has gone too far’

From restaurants to farms to healthcare, the US president’s hardline policies have reshaped Americans’ daily lives

If there is one campaign promise that Donald Trump has kept, it is his pledge to deliver “mass deportations”.

Trump himself has called the midterm elections this November – which will decide which party controls each house of Congress – a referendum on his presidency. In many ways, they will also serve as a referendum of his hardline anti-immigration policies, and the multitudinous ways they have reshaped Americans’ daily lives.

In Florida, restaurant and hotel owners have said that ICE’s presence is frightening away both workers and customers, and Republican congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, who is running for re-election, aired a Spanish-language ad breaking with the president, saying his immigration crackdown had “betrayed” Hispanic voters in her district.

Wildlife park confirms tiger will not be euthanised after man mauled to death | Yorkshire

Ed Miliband, MP for nearby Doncaster North, offers ‘deepest condolences’ to family of visitor who entered enclosure on Saturday

A wildlife park in Yorkshire has confirmed the tiger that mauled to death a man who entered its enclosure will not be euthanised.

A man, who has not yet been named, was seen entering a tiger enclosure at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, near Doncaster, before police were called at 1.35pm on Saturday.

South Yorkshire police said the tiger “subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury” and despite the efforts of emergency services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park remains closed after fatal tiger attack

Yorkshire Wildlife Park remains closed for a third day as investigations continue into the death of a man who was attacked by a tiger when he entered its enclosure.

The park near Doncaster was closed over the weekend after reports of a man climbing down into the enclosure from a walkway on Saturday afternoon.

An eyewitness described seeing the man wearing headphones and "pacing around" near the enclosure before he went in and was attacked.

A park spokesperson said: "Due to the events over the weekend, the park will remain closed today. Thank you for your understanding."

South Yorkshire Police said the man died at the scene and his family were being supported by officers. "Our thoughts are with them at this distressing time," the force said.

    ATO’s $200m U-turn makes paying tax on credit a ‘no-brainer’

The Albanese government has been warned that a potential surge of people paying the Australian Taxation Office by credit card without incurring a fee and earning reward points could blow out the cost of a reprieve from a proposed ban on the payment method.

The ATO is trying to negotiate lower fees with credit card companies and the Reserve Bank of Australia for continuing to accept tax bill payments by credit card until June 30 next year after Treasury said it would subsidise a seven-month delay to a ban it had initially proposed from December.

Minister breaks ranks, calls for banks to absorb card surcharge pain

A Labor frontbencher has urged the Reserve Bank of Australia to pressure banks to absorb the cost of the government’s card surcharge ban as it once again attempts to clean up the political mess caused by the change.

The ban, which was touted to save Australians about $1.6 billion a year, came into effect on October 1.

Kristy McBain says banks should absorb the costs associated with the government’s surcharge ban. Audrey Richardson

But despite the overhaul including a new cap on interchange fees in an attempt to prevent sellers from being left worse off by the changes, many businesses and other organisations have either increased customer prices or banned credit card payments to cover higher costs associated with the new system.

Alcaraz knows his opponent in the third round of the Shanghai tournament

Carlos Alcaraz had a smooth debut at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai 2026 and already knows what the next step is on his roadmap to the title. The Spaniard will face Zizou Bergs, who eliminated Ignacio Buse with surprising decisiveness, disrupting the tournament's plans since the Peruvian was seeded and, therefore, a potential opponent in this third round for Carlos.

At 27 years old, this Belgian player, who reached 33rd in the world this year, is now in the 39th position in the ATP ranking and has managed to recover from some recent tough losses; against Rodionov in the Davis Cup and Lehecka in Tokyo, in a very close match. He is an offensively minded player, with good hands and strong net play, who likes to take the initiative and apply pressure with all his shots.
