A big question Apple analysts are asking is: how many consumers are waiting for the iPhone Duo?

The answer is hugely important to Apple’s stock this year and beyond. The new iPhone Pro range has been out for nearly three weeks, and from the get-go analysts noted somewhat flat consumer interest compared with last year’s Pro models.

One theory is that a significant number of would-be buyers are waiting for Apple’s new foldable model, which doesn’t come out until October 23.

Apple Plans Massive Retail Push For Foldable iPhone Duo Ahead Of October 23 Launch

Apple is reportedly preparing an extensive in-store demonstration campaign for its first foldable iPhone, with hundreds of display units expected to appear across major retail locations ahead of the iPhone Duo’s launch later this month.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to give customers plenty of opportunities to experience the new folding design firsthand, with some flagship stores receiving significantly more demonstration units than usual.

The company’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York is expected to feature more than 150 iPhone Duo demo units, while the Apple Park Visitor Centre in California could receive nearly 100.

WA schools to go back to basics in classroom screen time crackdown

Some WA primary school students will have their screen time restricted next year as part of a pilot program. (ABC News: Cason Ho)

The amount of time primary school students spend staring at a screen will be restricted next year in a trial aimed at limiting "unnecessary" screen time in the classroom.

Slated for rollout in Term 1, 2027, the "Back to Basics" program will be piloted in 10 public schools across Western Australia, which will each receive $50,000 in funding for the purchase of materials.

Some WA primary school children will learn more from screen-free resources from 2027. (ABC News: Brooke Chandler)

The aim is to restore face-to face teaching and hands on learning instead of using a digital device like a laptop or iPad.

Track cyclist Matthew Richardson, who defected from Australia after the Paris Games, has been withdrawn from Britain's team for the UCI Track World Championships.

A report by The Times alleges Richardson had been removed from the team amid an investigation into "alleged discriminatory posts and behaviour".

The UCI Track World Championships will be held in China this week.

Matt Richardson has been withdrawn from the Great Britain team for next week’s track world championships in Shanghai amid allegations of serious misconduct.

The 27-year-old, who switched allegiances from Australia after the Paris 2024 Olympics, had been seen as one of Britain’s strongest medal hopes, with chances in the team and individual sprints and the keirin. But after a Times story, which reported that there had been concerns about his behaviour from other riders, he is now in the process of leaving the team’s training base in China.

Dubai-bound Emirates flight forced to turn back to Adelaide Airport

A Dubai-bound Emirates flight has been forced to return to Adelaide after reporting a mechanical issue while in the air.

Flight EK441 took off from Adelaide Airport at 10:35pm on Monday but pilots were forced to turn around before reaching the West Australian border.

An Adelaide Airport spokesperson said that the Airbus A350-900 landed shortly after 2am on Tuesday, with fire trucks in attendance "as a precaution" on the flight's arrival.

"Passengers have either returned home or have been accommodated in hotels," they said.

[SMM Iron Ore] Coke price cuts fail to lift iron ore buying as prices stay low

DCE iron ore futures were quiet today with limited movement. The most-traded I2701 contract settled at 683 yuan/mt, down 0.07% from the previous session. Qingdao port spot prices fell 0-2 yuan/mt on average. Traders were less active and mills bought to cover immediate needs, with few enquiries. Market trading was thin.

On fundamentals, supply has eased slightly but the market remains comfortably supplied. With more blast furnace maintenance reported after the holiday, the market is broadly pessimistic on near-term iron ore demand, buying appetite is weak and prices have held at low levels. Notably, while the first round of coke price cuts has improved mill margins, it has yet to translate into additional iron ore buying given soft end-use demand. Iron ore demand is likely to stay low in the near term, leaving prices rangebound at low levels.

Capesize ballaster list and India coal flows: dry bulk view

Iron ore went into China's 8-day National Day holiday on the back foot. The Singapore Exchange (SGX) 61% Fe November contract fell 3.5% week on week to $92.80/t on 1 October. The Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) January 2027 contract fell 1.3% to 702.5 yuan/t on 30 September.

The weakness was mainly a Chinese demand and margin story. Member mills of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) averaged 1.92 mt a day of crude steel from 10 to 20 September, 7.3% lower year on year. The association urged mills to cut production further as port inventories climbed and profitability weakened.

Freight added to the pressure. Capesize rates eased on the C5 West Australia to Qingdao route, lowering the delivered cost floor. With Dalian closed for the holiday, Singapore futures are trading without Chinese participants. Thin liquidity can exaggerate moves, and our base case is that prices stay soft over the holiday.
