Remember the good old days? The time when life was simple and opportunities endless?

Last week, Reserve Bank governor Michele Bullock batted away the idea that a recession was inevitable but finally conceded that unless inflation was brought to heel in a timely manner, it was a possibility.

"So, it's not our base case, I don't want it, but if inflation expectations get away, that's the sort of scenario you might be looking at."

Pandemic aside, we haven't experienced a recession — one where the catalyst was rising interest rates — since the early 1990s.

Is Australia facing a real recession?

Daniil Medvedev disqualified from China Open semi after hitting fan with ball

Daniil Medvedev was disqualified from his China Open semi-final with Novak Djokovic on Monday after hitting a rebounding ball into the crowd that struck a spectator in the eye.

The Russian world ‌No 5 was ‌trailing 7-5, 5-3 and had lost a point ‌when, in frustration, he struck a ball that had come off the back wall. The spectator, sitting in the first row, clutched his left eye and appeared in pain as he left the gallery, assisted by the stadium’s ‌staff.

“Terribly sorry to the spectator, first of all,” Medvedev said, adding it was “100% an accident” and that he wished to apologise in person. “The ball was bouncing back so I tried to just hit it anywhere so it doesn’t go out from the court. When I saw the result I felt horrible.”

Olivia Dean’s ‘I’ve Seen It’ copied melody of Bill Withers classic ‘Just the Two of Us,’ lawsuit alleges

Olivia Dean is accused of copying the melody of Bill Withers’ Grammy-winning hit song “Just the Two of Us” for the closing track of her latest album.

A lawsuit was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, alleging that Dean’s “I’ve Seen It” copies “in large and significant part” Withers’ song. Mattie Music Group, which controls Withers’ catalog, says in the suit that it used a musicologist who compared the two songs and found “substantial similarities.”

The defendants — Capitol Records, Universal Music Group, Sony Publishing, and Kobalt Music Publishing America — were notified in writing in August of the infringement, the lawsuit says.

Olivia Dean accused of copying Bill Withers' Just The Two of Us

British pop star Olivia Dean has been accused of copying the melody of Bill Withers' soul classic Just The Two of Us in a legal case filed in California.

The complaint centres around Dean's song I've Seen It, taken from her Brit Award-winning 2025 album The Art of Loving.

Just The Two of Us was a hit for Withers in 1981, and the publishers of the late singer's catalogue allege that the two songs "share musical features" that are "so striking" they cannot have arisen by coincidence alone.

The lawsuit names Dean's record label Capitol Records, parent company Universal Music Group and her publishing companies as the defendants. It does not seek damages from the singer herself or her co-writers Bastian Langebæk and Max Wolfgang.

Olivia Dean’s ‘Art of Loving’ Song Accused of Copying Bill Withers’ ‘Just the Two of Us’

A new lawsuit alleges the Olivia Dean song “I’ve Seen It,” from her critically acclaimed album The Art of Loving, copies an unmistakable melody from the Bill Withers hit “Just the Two of Us.”

Filed in federal court in Los Angeles and obtained by Rolling Stone, the new complaint from the publisher behind Withers’ catalog says the similarities between Dean’s song and the 1981 Grammy-winning R&B classic are “obvious and inescapable.” The publisher says a musicologist who reviewed the songs found “substantial similarities” and repeated copying of a “distinctively protectable melody.”

“The number, character, and arrangement of the shared musical features are so striking that they support an inference that the similarities did not result from coincidence, independent creation, or reliance on common musical elements,” the new lawsuit states.

Chainlink Is Enabling Financial Institutions to Connect to Swift’s Blockchain Ledger

MIAMI, FLORIDA |  SEPTEMBER 28, 2026 – Chainlink today announced it is working to enable financial institutions to connect their systems and key signing infrastructure to Swift’s blockchain ledger through the Chainlink platform.

This solution enables banks to easily access the Swift ledger and manage their usage of smart contracts on both their own ledgers for tokenized deposits and the Swift ledger. At the center of the solution is a self-signing model for financial institutions enabled through the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE). Institutions retain control of the keys used to authorize transactions, while CRE orchestrates workflows connecting financial institutions to Swift’s ledger. This enables banks to adopt 24/7 tokenized payment workflows while preserving their existing security governance, approval processes, and operating models.

The Swift Blockchain Shift in Global Payments

Imagine a world where sending money across borders becomes as immediate as a text message. Welcome to the era of Swift Blockchain—the catalyst for a revolution in international money transfers. This innovation doesn't merely breathe life into staid banking systems; it forges a new pathway, merging conventional financial mechanisms with the limitless potential of decentralized finance. As we delve into this groundbreaking landscape, we unveil a myriad of opportunities awaiting both established financial entities and daring startups.

At the helm of this financial evolution is Swift Blockchain, a visionary project dedicated to crafting a global payment platform that integrates tokenized assets seamlessly with established banking systems. A crucial ally in this venture is Chainlink, which empowers banks to maintain their governance structures while embracing cutting-edge blockchain technology. This symbiosis creates a secure incubator for institutions to venture into smart contracts and refine their cross-border payment methods.
