Childcare centre forced to close after recording 126 breaches

The independent regulator has given Jenny's Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre in Bathurst two weeks' notice to close. (ABC Central West: Hamish Cole)

Jenny's Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre in Bathurst has been ordered to close due to ongoing non-compliance.

The independent regulator says the centre has had 126 confirmed breaches since it opened in 2014.

The centre will permanently close on October 13, and families will be offered support to find alternative care.

A childcare centre in the NSW Central West is being shut down after recording 126 breaches over a 12-year period.

The NSW Early Learning Commission has announced Jenny's Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre in Bathurst will permanently close on October 13 due to ongoing non-compliance and safety risks.

Staff are without jobs and parents are hustling to find care for their children after a long-standing early learning centre in Bathurst was forced to close, due to ongoing non-compliance and child safety risks.

According to a statement released by the NSW Early Learning Commission today, September 30, 2026, Jenny's Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre Bathurst has lost its provider approval, with the centre set to permanently close from October 13, 2026.

This comes after the NSW Early Learning Commission – the regulatory authority for early childhood education and care in NSW – has been investigating allegations of multiple ongoing serious breaches at the Bathurst childcare centre.

Early Learning Centre Albury suspended for six months over child safety concerns

The decision took effect immediately. The service must remain closed while it addresses the issues identified by the regulator. An investigation is continuing.

According to the Commission, authorised officers identified failures to adequately supervise children and protect them from harm and hazards, along with an unsafe indoor and outdoor environment. The regulator also raised concerns about inadequate resources for children’s ages and stages of development, staff induction processes, and awareness of child protection legislation and reporting requirements.

NSW Early Learning Commissioner Daryl Currie said authorised officers had identified immediate risks to children. He said the Commission had worked with the service to improve quality, making multiple visits and issuing compliance actions over two years before deciding to suspend its approval.

Grieving mum pushes for driving law change after death of her son

A grieving Melbourne mother is campaigning for an automatic driver’s licence suspension for motorists accused of causing fatal crashes, after the man charged over the hit-run death of her 16-year-old was allowed to keep his licence while on bail.

Diego, 16, was killed last year while crossing a Melbourne road after leaving a friend's barbecue.

Terri Svoronos said she was stunned to discover the accused driver was legally permitted to keep driving while awaiting trial. A Current Affair

Police allege 23-year-old Harry Waldron was speeding and on his phone before striking the teenager and fleeing the scene.

Waldron has been charged with offences including dangerous driving causing death, but under current Victorian law, the suspension of a driver's licence is not automatic for drivers charged in connection with a fatality.

Terri Svoronos walked into a meeting with Victoria’s Attorney-General last week expecting she would have to fight to get her proposed changes to Victoria’s driving laws considered.

Instead, Sonya Kilkenny told her the matter had already been referred to the Victorian Law Reform Commission.

When does daylight saving time end? Here's when to 'fall back' in Seattle

SEATTLE – Much of the U.S. will soon shift their clocks back an hour to mark the end of daylight saving time. It comes after many had moved an hour forward in the spring.

While most associate daylight saving time with getting an extra hour of sleep, it also means the sun will set earlier, often before 5 p.m. in Washington.

Daylight saving time is the period between spring and fall when clocks are set one hour ahead of standard time to make better use of daylight. Each year, it begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

When does daylight saving start again in Australia – and what happens if you’re working when clocks change?

Early on Sunday clocks in the south-eastern states will go forward one hour. Here’s what you need to know – and how it will affect you

It’s that time of year again: clocks will move forward one hour on Sunday in many parts of Australia as daylight saving time comes into effect.

Daylight saving returns on the first Sunday of October every year and ends on the first Sunday of April.

In 2026, daylight saving time will recommence on Sunday 4 October at 2am Australian eastern standard time (AEST).

Clocks will move forward one hour to 3am, giving an extra hour of afternoon daylight.

Adelaide skips an hour this weekend as Australia splits into five time zones

Late dinners, beach walks and after-work drinks are about to get a little brighter, with daylight saving returning to South Australia this Sunday.

The season of late sunsets, after-work beach trips and squeezing a little more into the evening is almost here.

Daylight saving returns to South Australia this weekend, with clocks moving forward one hour at 2am on Sunday, October 4, jumping straight to 3am.

And while it means losing an hour of sleep overnight, for most of us, the trade-off of welcoming back those warm Adelaide evenings is well worth the sacrifice.

From Sunday, sunset in Adelaide will suddenly shift to around 7:20pm, giving locals more daylight for everything from coastal walks, backyard barbecues and midweek catch-ups that no longer feel like they are happening after dark.

Thriving Kids starts today. What's actually changing?

After more than a year of talk, the start of Thriving Kids begins today. (ABC News: Patrick Stone)

The first phase of the $4 billion National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) alternative for kids under nine with developmental delay or autism who have "low to moderate" support needs begins today.

Thriving Kids is intended to offer children and families a baseline level of support in places they already live, learn and play, without needing a diagnosis or specialist referral.

While running under a national model, each state and territory will run their own iteration of Thriving Kids.

Here's what you need to know about the system, what's changing today, and what your state or territory is saying about it.

A once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve disability support by removing tens of thousands of children from the NDIS might be bungled, advocates warn.

The plan for autistic and developmentally delayed kids to roll off the NDIS – called Thriving Kids – will enter its first phase on Thursday.

States will chip in $4 billion over five years to take youngsters aged eight or below with low-to-moderate needs off the hands of the federal government, which will also contribute $2 billion.

Commanders rule out G Sam Cosmi, S Nick Cross for Week 4

The Commanders went to London on Tuesday night to prepare for Sunday’s game against the Colts, but a couple of players did not make the trip.

Right guard Sam Cosmi and safety Nick Cross both stayed in Washington and they have been ruled out for this week’s game. Cosmi has a concussion and a throat injury while Cross is recovering from internal injuries that required him to have surgery after the team’s Week 2 game in Dallas.

Nick Allegretti replaced Cosmi in Week 3 with Lucas Patrick at center.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels (left elbow), linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin), and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) all made the trip after missing the Week 3 win over the Seahawks. Their status for Sunday will be determined later in the week.

Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Paris FC in the Women's Champions League after Leah Williamson gave away a late penalty by putting her hand on the ball from a goal kick.

England duo Alessia Russo and Georgia Stanway scored either side of halftime in Paris on Wednesday (Thursday AEST), which looked like it would hand Arsenal a second straight win in the competition.

An AFL great has called for an “easy fix” to the Norm Smith Medal voting after Shai Bolton’s controversial crowning denied Will Ashcroft a third-straight honour.

But 2026 Norm Smith Medal panellist Shaun Burgoyne has defended his call to give three votes to Dayne Zorko and leave Ashcroft from his ballot entirely.

Voss outlines his Norm Smith voting strategy

After what was one of the most contentious Norm Smith Medals ever awarded, Michael Voss has provided some intriguing insight.

Voss, who captained the Brisbane Lions to three premiership in the early 2000s, was one of the voters who awarded the medal to Fremantle's Shai Bolton.

The basis for this decision was a process driven approach wanting to remove the emotion and moment biases out of his vote.

“I think it was really important coming into the voting to come with a little bit of a process,” he said on AFL Trade Radio.

“My process at the end of every quarter, I just took a really simple 5,4,3,2,1 (vote) on every quarter.

The Princess of Wales has helped pick up a 94-year-old rural minibus user as she celebrated the 50th anniversary of the service.

Catherine travelled to the village of Pulborough to mark the milestone occasion for the West Sussex Minibus, whose team of volunteers transport the elderly across the area in a fleet of vehicles.
