Preview: CD Atletico Baleares vs Atletico Madrid – prediction, team news, lineups

Atletico Madrid will be aiming to book their spot in the last-16 stage of the Copa del Rey when they take on CD Atletico Baleares in the round of 32 on Wednesday night.

The Red and Whites have won the Copa del Rey on 10 previous occasions, with their last success in the famous tournament coming in 2012-13.

Baleares have previously spent time in the Segunda Division – Spain's second tier – although they have not operated at that level since 1963.

Balearicos currently play their league football in Spain's fourth tier, and the home side will enter this match off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Terrassa, with the result leaving them in second spot in their domestic table, three points ahead of third-placed Barcelona B.

Simeone warns Atlético not to take Copa del Rey opener too lightly

Ahead of his team’s first Copa del Rey game of the 2025/26 campaign, Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone previewed the game against Primera Federación side Atlético Baleares on Wednesday night.

“Thinking about tomorrow’s game, understanding the competition from where it starts is always complex. It always is,” Simeone told reporters on Tuesday. “The rivals are excited, (the big teams) have little interest in the competition, and when you realise that you are up for it, it’s too late and you can’t react, and there’s only one game at the opponent’s stadium.”

Baleares vs. Atletico Madrid: Betting odds, prediction, pick

The Copa del Rey resumes on Wednesday as Atlético Baleares hosts Atlético Madrid for a round of 32 matchup.

Atlético Baleares plays in the Segunda Federación, which is in the fourth tier of Spanish soccer.

The hosts upset La Liga side Espanyol 1-0 in the second round to advance to this stage of the competition, and will now be faced with an even bigger challenge.

Diego Simeone's side is looking to win this competition for an 11th time, most recently lifting the Copa del Rey in 2013.

Atlético Madrid has three wins in its last five matches and is competing at a high level on all fronts. It sits fourth in La Liga and eighth in the Champions League.

As millions of Gen Zers face unemployment, McDonald's CEO dishes out some tough love career advice for navigating the market: ‘You've got to make things happen for yourself’

For Gen Z, building a career can feel less like climbing a ladder and more like chasing a moving target—as a cooling job market and rising competition blur once guaranteed paths to success. But McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski offers no sympathy.

Instead, the 57-year-old executive is offering some blunt advice for aspiring young professionals: whether the market is hot or cold, no one is going to give you a handout. Your career is yours to build, and the onus is on you to make it happen.

“Remember, nobody cares about your career as much as you do,” Kempczinski said in a recent Instagram video. “You’ve got to own it, you’ve got to make things happen for yourself.”

When speaking at the McDonald's Impact Summit, President Donald Trump urged the company to put more tartar sauce on the Filet-O-Fish.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski recently shared some blunt career advice and warned viewers it may "hurt your feelings."

In a video posted to his Instagram account earlier this week titled "Tough Love with the McDonald’s CEO," Kempczinski encouraged people to take full ownership of their professional journeys rather than waiting for others to open doors for them.

McDonald’s CEO Warns That His Career Advice May ‘Hurt Your Feelings’

The executive shared some straightforward career guidance with his more than 50,000 Instagram followers.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski recently shared a piece of “tough love” career advice that he openly admits may “hurt your feelings.”

In a recent video posted to Instagram, titled “Tough Love with the McDonald’s CEO,” Kempczinski urged professionals to stop waiting for someone else to manage their careers and instead take full ownership of their paths.

Kempczinski’s central point is blunt: “Nobody cares about your career as much as you do.” You shouldn’t believe that your boss, mentor or company is charting your next move or guaranteeing your next opportunity, even if they are supportive.

The holders Newcastle make six changes to the side that began the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland. Fabian Schär, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock, Jacob Ramsey and Yoane Wissa are in; Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Anthony Elanga and Nick Woltemade drop to the bench, while Dan Burn and Lewis Hall are injured.

Fulham make four changes to the XI that started the 3-2 win at Burnley, and three of them are enforced. Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and Calvin Bassey are all away at the Afcon with Nigeria, so in come Jorge Cuenca, Saša Lukić and Kevin. Meanwhile Benjamin Lecomte replaces Bernd Leno in goal.

Keith Andrews issues team news update ahead of Manchester City Carabao Cup quarter-final

Frank Onyeka and Dango Ouattara have joined up with the Nigeria and Burkina Faso squads respectively ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, while the trip to Manchester comes too soon for Reiss Nelson.

"Dango and Frank have gone to AFCON, so we'll miss them both," Andrews confirmed.

"Reiss won't make this one. We've pushed him as much as we can. He's not too far off but tomorrow comes a bit too soon, unfortunately.

"There definitely hasn't been a setback, it was just a case of whether we felt it was right [to play Nelson against Leeds United]. We looked at his training loads and where he was at, and we felt it would have been a bit of a risk.

He was far from alone. Cyclists saw a crucial missing link in the city’s bike network, and environment groups imagined an urban biodiversity corridor.

Middlesbrough 3-1 QPR – Boro maintain 100% record under Hellberg

Middlesbrough made it four wins from four under new head coach Kim Hellberg as they cruised past Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.

Boro dominated from the start and were two up by the break thanks to David Strelec and a sixth goal in six games from Morgan Whittaker.

A penalty from Tommy Conway – his first goal since August – wrapped things up five minutes into the second half.

The victory keeps them within five points of leaders Coventry City, but they extended the gap to third place to seven points.

Nicolas Madsen pulled one back for QPR from the penalty spot in what was only a second loss in six games for the Hoops, who dropped down to ninth.

Clarke-Salter back and QPR duo return to training

Julien Stephan has confirmed that Jake Clarke-Salter is set to return to the QPR squad for Saturday’s game at Middlesbrough.

The former Chelsea defender recently returned to action after a long absence but is being eased back, so was rested for midweek games against Blackburn and Birmingham.

Having sat out Tuesday’s dramatic win over Birmingham, he is back in contention to feature against Boro.

Meanwhile, Sam Field and Harvey Vale returned to full training on Friday.

Field suffered a groin injury during the recent defeat at Norwich and it was initially feared he faced a lengthy spell out, but he has responded well to treatment.

Dexus Stake snaps up stake in Westfield Chermside as shopping malls seize the limelight

Westfield Chermside was packed with shoppers during the Black Friday sales.

After languishing in the doldrums during the Covid pandemic, large shopping malls have jumped back into favour with big institutions.

The closing months of the year have witnessed a dramatic flurry of large-scale shopping centre sales, more reminiscent of the action a decade ago when they were at the top of the investment tree.

In those days, the billionaire Lowy family was still running the Westfield empire and big landlords resembled developers, with ambitious expansion agendas to roll out more space across the nation. This all came to a halt even before the pandemic struck as the threat of e-commerce sapped confidence across the industry. This set back even the best operators and very few new malls have opened since then.

Australia’s biggest shopping centre owner, Scentre, which operates Westfield malls, is accelerating plans to divest interests in its properties as it pursues an ambitious development program including housing, completing a two-step $1.3 billion sale of stakes in one of Brisbane’s biggest malls.

On Friday, Scentre confirmed it has sold a quarter stake in Westfield Chermside to Dexus, another prominent ASX-listed property player, following a similar deal in July. Sold into separate Dexus-run funds, each 25 per cent stake was exchanged for $683 million, in line with book value.

ASX Preview: Australian Shares Set to Rise Amid Tech Valuation Concerns; Scentre's JV Partner to Buy 25% Stake in Brisbane Shopping Center

Australian shares are poised to rise on Friday amid increased concerns about lofty valuations for US artificial intelligence firms. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 rose 1.3% and 0.2%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.3%. In corporate news, Scentre Group (ASX:SCG) said its joint venture partner, Dexus Wholesale Shopping Centre Fund (DWSF), will buy a 25% stake in Westfield Chermside, a Brisbane shopping center owned and operated by the company. Treasure Jim Chalmers backed the Foreign Investment Review Board's decision to not oppose Hanwha Group's proposal to raise its stake in Austal (ASX:ASB) to 19.9% from 9.9%. Australia's benchmark index rose 0.2% or 12.6 points to close at 8,592 on Thursday.

UFC's Vallejos, Amosov look to announce their arrival

This Saturday, UFC’s 2025 schedule ends with a Fight Night main event between flyweight contenders Brandon Royval and Manel Kape. It’s the third time these two have been booked to fight one another this year after Royval pulled out of a March bout due to a concussion and Kape couldn’t make a June date after breaking his foot.

While the matchup has lost some steam over the ensuing months, particularly after Royval fell to new champion Joshua Van at UFC 317 and dropped out of the flyweight title picture, it’s still an all-action style clash between two high-output, risk-taking fighters who aren’t particularly concerned with shooting takedowns. For diehard fans, it’s an entertaining way to close out the year.
