Practice 5: 2026 Miami Dolphins Training Camp Notebook

The first padded practice of the 2026 season is in the books as the temperature turned up Monday in Miami Gardens. The first play of the day was a seemingly innocuous run for a minimal gain, but onlookers witnessed a core principle of their Miami Dolphins, even if they didn't realize it.

Rookie tight end Will Kacmarek executed a punishing pancake block, a common occurrence on his college tape at Ohio State. Fellow tight end Ben Sims recognized that moment as a defining example of what this team wants to be.

"It's one of our core values, toughness, and I saw that play on our script and I said, let's do it," Sims said. "Will (Kacmarek) is those values. He believes in that, so being able to do a counter on the first practice of pads speaks to what we want to be about."

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Ghosts of the Miami Dolphins’ past hovered Wednesday, as the team’s latest incarnation conducted its opening practice of training camp at the Baptist Health Training Complex.

While there’s no doubt reason for excitement about this new era under first-year general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and first-year coach Jeff Hafley — the tandem of former Green Bay Packers who have been chosen to lead an unprecedented rebuild in Miami — they also recognize that to reach the fortunes of a better future, the Dolphins must become unshackled by the errors of their all-too-recent past.

Third and final part of the Miami Dolphins On SI mailbag for the first weekend of training camp:

Why is it so difficult to assess how well star college players will perform in the pros?

Hey Mark, that’s a very good question and it’s clearly a problem because there are so many misses around the league every year. I would think the biggest cause there is the massive jump in competition level where it’s difficult to evaluate where what makes a player successful in college can translate to the NFL. Not a great answer, but it’s the best I can do.

It seems mere weeks ago that I started writing up my recaps of the 2026 season of MasterChef Australia, from the first episode, where we met Lydia, who learned to cook using The Australian Women’s Weekly cookbooks and magazines, to the most recent episode, when the contestants were whittled down to the top three.

It’s taken 57 episodes, but we made it! And what a wild season it’s been. We’ve had Robert Irwin sharing his enthusiasm for native Australian ingredients, Jane and Jimmy Barnes showcasing their love of home-cooking, and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in studio talking about her love of seasonal produce (and taking a FaceTime call with Prince Harry).

Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games – Day 8 Wrap

It was Semi-Final day at The OVO Hydro, with New Zealand taking on England in the opening match.

Both sides forced early turnovers as the match ebbed and flowed during the first few minutes.

It was New Zealand that took an early lead, with Kelly Jackson producing a series of defensive efforts at goal defence to force the Roses into errors.

At the other end, the Silver Ferns moved the ball efficiently through the court to Grace Nweke, whose physical presence in the circle drew a number of penalties from the England defence.

The Roses entered the second quarter trailing by five goals but continued to struggle to prevent the feed into Nweke as the Silver Ferns extended their advantage.

The Diamonds will wrap their arms around Sophie Dwyer after the Commonwealth Games debutant missed her after-the-siren shot in a nightmare semi-final loss to Jamaica.

With their gold medal defence on the line, Australia set the stage for a thrilling finish in Glasgow with a three-goal blitz that reduced Jamaica's lead to one goal with 36 seconds remaining.

A frantic finish ended with Jamaica penalised and the ball in the hands of goal attack Dwyer, who had a chance to push the game to overtime.

NYT Connections Hints And Answers: Saturday, August 1

Looking for Friday’s NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here:

I would consider this a very hard Connections today, where I struggled hard with three out of the four groups and got pretty lucky on the other.

Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.

The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there.

Today's NYT Connections Hints (and Answer) for Thursday, July 30, 2026

Tim Mulkerin is a freelance writer, editor, and social media manager who has been working in digital media and the tech world since 2016.

He has a bachelor's degree in art history and is currently pursuing a master's degree in communicative sciences and disorders from New York University. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

If you’re looking for the Connections answer for Thursday, July 30, 2026, read on—I’ll share some clues, tips, and strategies, and finally the solutions to all four categories. Along the way, I’ll explain the meanings of the trickier words and we’ll learn how everything fits together. Beware, there are spoilers below for July 30, NYT Connections #1,145! Read on if you want some hints (and then the answer) to today’s Connections game.

NFL Network: Saints DT Bryan Bresee feared to have suffered torn ACL | Latest NFL News, Analysis & Updates

Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee is feared to have suffered a torn ACL, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported.

Tests are ongoing, but it's likely the 2023 first-rounder will be ruled out for the season, Rapoport noted.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore told WWL Radio that Bresee appeared to suffer a non-contact injury during one of the early team periods. Moore couldn't confirm the exact injury, but said "it doesn't look great."

The No. 29 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Bresee hasn't lived up to the lofty draft status, but has flashed some improvement the past two years. The 24-year-old was poised to play a key role along Brandon Staley's defensive line. 2025 third-rounder Vernon Broughton, who played one game last year, and 2026 second-rounder Christen Miller will now be tasked with larger roles. Given the lack of experience, the Saints could look to add a veteran presence along the line in the coming weeks.

Women's Open: Round one and two tee times

Nelly Korda (left) is chasing a career Grand Slam while Charley Hull is aiming for a first major

England's Charley Hull will begin her latest attempt to win her first major title when she tees off in a prestigous grouping in the 50th Women's Open Championship on Thursday morning.

The 30-year-old has five runners-up finishes in golf's biggest events, including in June at the US Open, and will play her opening two rounds alongside Brooke Henderson of Canada and Australian Hannah Green (13:26 BST).

Hull's compatriot Lottie Woad will play with Andrea Lee from America and Japan's Akie Iwai in the opening two rounds at at Royal Lytham & St Anne's, with the group starting at 08:31 on Thursday.

Here’s the record prize money payout for each player at the 2026 AIG Women’s British Open

The AIG Women’s British Open announced back in April that it had increased its total prize purse for the sixth consecutive year, moving it up to a record $10 million.

The winner on Sunday at Royal Lytham & St. Annes will earn $1.5 million, the highest amount in the 50-year history of the Women’s British Open. The R&A and AIG partnership began back in 2019.

Last year at Royal Porthcawl, then LPGA rookie Miyu Yamashita from Japan, earned $1,462,500. Yamashita collected her first LPGA title and major by shooting 68-65-74-70 for an 11-under-par 277 total. Minami Katsu and Charley Hull tied for second place, two shots back. Lottie Woad tied for eighth place, the same spot as Spanish amateur Paula Martin Sampedro, who shot a final-round 68 to earn the Smyth Salver as the low amateur.

Commonwealth Games 2026 LIVE: Kennedy puts aside record celebrations to make 200m semis; Aussie 3×3 women make final despite being a player down

Forget gold rushes in the pool, we could be seeing an incredible run of gold medals on court as all four of our Australian teams take on 3×3 basketball finals tonight.

Our Australian women’s 3×3 wheelchair team had a devastating loss earlier today, but they face Canada this afternoon in a fight for the bronze medal.

Later on, we have the men’s wheelchair team in the gold medal game, fighting against England.

Following that we have both the men’s and women’s gold medal match.

I’m here at the SEC Centre and I can confirm the atmosphere is pumping. There’s a DJ courtside and a healthy contingent of Aussie fans in the crowd.

Commonwealth Games 2026: England netball team thrash Tonga to boost semi-final hopes

England's Eleanor Cardwell has scored 121 goals from 132 attempts in four games at the 2026 Commonwealth Games

England broke their Commonwealth Games record goals tally with a convincing 94-32 victory over Tonga.

In a must-win Pool A game in their quest for a semi-final place, England raced into a 27-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained their dominance throughout at the Hydro in Glasgow.

Knowing goal average and possibly goal difference could be crucial in the battle for a top-two spot, the 2018 champions were keen for a significant margin of victory.

They did just that by surpassing their previous record of 89 goals in one game in the competition, set against Sri Lanka in 2002.

“Bronze secured, but I know I am good enough for gold. Can’t wait to compete in the semi-finals.

“When I get in that ring, everything is silent, I just focus on boxing … it’s turned me into a respectable young woman … I owe everything to boxing.

5 Zodiac Signs Destined For Success After The Full Moon On July 29, 2026

After the full moon rises in Aquarius on July 29, six zodiac signs are destined for success. The stars are aligning on Wednesday to give us a much-needed fresh start.

According to astrologer Helena Hathor, "the upcoming Full Moon at the end of the month is wiping out anything that's not meant for your path ahead for the next 18 years." This is the first Full Moon since the North Node moved into Aquarius and the South Node into Leo. It is also conjunct Pluto, the planet of transformation and rebirth, so big changes are coming. Get ready!

Your home life is getting an upgrade, Scorpio. The Aquarius Full Moon on July 29 targets your house of home and family. This represents an ending, but there's no reason to be sad. "Something is being completely released back into the universe that was not meant for you," Hathor explained. You're making room for something far better to enter your orbit.

Commonwealth Games 2026 LIVE: More gymnastics gold for Australia as McDonald lands emotional win

It’s official, Australian Kate McDonald is the new Commonwealth champion on the uneven bars.

The 25-year-old was sensational in this afternoon’s final, and scored an impressive 14.333 to send her to the top of the leaderboard with a routine that was technically difficult and executed perfectly.

It was a nervous wait for McDonald, though, with three more competitors to come after her — including countrywoman Ruby Pass.

But there was no beating McDonald, whose score was the highest of the weekend. Canada’s Ellie Black won silver with 13.900 while Emily Roper of Wales won bronze with a 13.66.

Unfortunately, Pass fell from the bars mid-routine, and finished in eighth with a score of 11.666.

A score of 11.533 is enough for James Hardy to win bronze on the rings.

He was originally in a spot for silver but was pushed back to third. Still a great result for the Aussie!

The rings final is on right now and James Hardy and Jesse Moore are in contention.

Kelsey Cottrell and Dawn Hayman have missed out on progression in the women’s pairs by one measly point.

They were up against Northern Ireland and needed to win by two sets to zero. They needed it to be a 10-point margin too.

Listening to "California Dreamin'", Australian gymnast Kate McDonald hit the ground running on her road to Los Angeles by winning uneven bars gold at the Commonwealth Games.

It was sweet redemption for McDonald, who banished haunting memories of her "pretty poo" finish at the 2022 Birmingham Games with a near-flawless performance at Glasgow International Stadium, scoring 14.333 points.

So dominant was the 25-year-old that she was the only gymnast to hit the 14.000-point mark and blitzed next-best, Canadian great Ellie Black, by 0.433 points, with Wales' Emily Roper following for bronze.

PREVIEW: Glasgow 2026 field athletics stacked with established and emerging stars

Pole vaulters Nina Kennedy and Kurtis Marschall, Matthew Denny in the discus and high jumper Nicola Olyslagers are all on top of the world rankings, which confirms they come into the Games in great form.

Marschall is aiming to be the first Australian field athlete, and male in any event, to win three consecutive Commonwealth titles. Olympic champion Kennedy and World Champion medallist Denny are also defending Commonwealth champions.

Glasgow 2014 champion and former World Champion Eleanor Patterson is ranked second behind Olyslagers.

Australian long jump record holder Brooke Buschkuehl, who became a mum to Bobby only 12 months ago, is determined to turn her two Commonwealth silvers into gold. She has been in great form but almost got beaten at Nationals by 19-year-old sensation Delta Amidzovski. Coached by her mum Becky, she has jumped 6.84m this year and could cause an upset on Games debut.

Australian athletes look to kick-start Glasgow gold rush

It is down to business on the opening day of Athletics and Para-athletics action at Scotstoun Stadium, where Rhiannon Clarke, Yual Reath, Lauren Ryan and Rose Davies will lead the nation into battle as the first medals of the program go on the line in Glasgow.

Para-athletics star Clarke (WA, Danny Kevan, T38) already has Commonwealth Games silver and bronze to her name. The 23-year-old will be looking to complete the set with gold in the Women’s 100m T38, but it won’t be easy.

Clarke is ranked second with her 12.72-second personal best but has her work cut out for her to chase down Sophie Hahn (ENG) at 12.38-seconds.
