RLWC 2026: Kangaroos and Jillaroos team announcement
Kevin Walters, Jess Skinner and ARLC Chairman Peter V'Landys announce the Australian Kangaroos and Jillaroos squads for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup
National Rugby League respects and honours the Traditional Custodians of the land and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on.
Teddy versus Reece: The battle to be Australia’s World Cup No.1
James Tedesco captained the Sydney Roosters to premiership glory and won a second Clive Churchill Medal on Sunday night, but remains no certainty to be wearing the Australian No.1 jersey when the World Cup kicks off next Thursday.
Tedesco was named in Kevin Walters’ cup squad on Monday after missing last year’s Ashes series to attend his brother’s wedding.
The 33-year-old starred in the 19-18 win over the Knights on Sunday, a performance that included a grand final record 388 run metres, but is now locked in a fullback shootout with incumbent Reece Walsh.
Walsh will not have played in 61 days by the time next week’s Allianz Stadium match against New Zealand starts because of an ankle injury.

Big mystery remains as Walters names Kangaroos squad
Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has unveiled his squad for the Rugby League World Cup, leaving plenty of mystery around his playmakers.
With champion halfback Nathan Cleary sidelined due to a leg injury, Walters has selected Sam Walker, Mitchell Moses, Tom Dearden and Cameron Munster in the 23-man squad, with all four men to battle for positions.
Munster will likely play five-eighth, which leaves a three-way shootout for the No.7 jumper between Walker, Moses and Dearden.
Walters has also picked two specialist fullbacks in Reece Walsh and James Tedesco – fresh off an emotional Clive Churchill Medal win after the Roosters’ premiership victory – in his wider playing group for the tournament.
