Crystal Palace have announced the signing of striker Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur.

ESPN reported that the two clubs had agreed a deal worth £35 million ($47.2m) earlier this week, with a successful medical on Thursday.

Sources told ESPN that Johnson took time to decide on his future — with AFC Bournemouth also an option as they aim to replace Antoine Semenyo, who is expected to join Manchester City.

However, talks between the 24-year-old and Palace boss Oliver Glasner were positive and saw the Welshman decide to head to south London. He will wear the No. 11 shirt.

Brennan Johnson on Friday completed a move from Tottenham to Crystal Palace for a reported fee of £35 million (AU$70,362,425).

The Wales international, 24, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Selhurst Park.

The forward, who fell out of favour under Thomas Frank at Spurs despite being the London club’s top scorer last season, is set to make his debut for Palace in their Premier League match against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Crystal Palace agree £35m fee for Brennan Johnson as race for Spurs forward hots up

Crystal Palace have agreed a club-record £35m fee with Tottenham for Brennan Johnson but are facing strong competition from Bournemouth to sign the Wales forward.

Palace are desperate to obtain reinforcements in attack after a punishing schedule that has meant them playing 30 games in all competitions already this season because of their Conference League commitments. With the Senegal forward Ismaïla Sarr away at the Africa Cup of Nations, the club identified Johnson as their primary target for the January window and opened talks with Tottenham several weeks ago.

The south-east London club have now agreed a deal for the 24-year-old that could surpass their record signing of Christian Benteke from Liverpool in August 2016. However, it is understood that Johnson has yet to decide on his future, with Bournemouth now expected to match Palace’s offer as they search for a replacement for Antoine Semenyo. The Ghana forward is likely to join Manchester City in a deal worth £65m.
