Virat, Rohit are incredible: Young explains Indian duo's influence on NZ camp

New Zealand batter Will Young said he was not surprised to see Indian batting superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back in prime form, as he explained the star duo's influence on the Blackcaps camp ahead of the three-match ODI series.

Virat and Rohit will be back in action in the ODI series against New Zealand, starting January 11 in Vadodara. Both batters have been in impressive form in recent series against Australia and South Africa. While Rohit clinched the Player of the Series award in Australia, Kohli bagged the honour in the home series.

Kohli finished as the leading run-scorer with 302 runs, including two centuries and an unbeaten 65 in the final match against South Africa. Rohit, meanwhile, made valuable contributions throughout the series, highlighted by a fluent 75 in the third ODI that provided India with a solid start at the top. Their consistency is reflected in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings, where Rohit sits at the top spot, with Kohli close behind in second place.

New Zealand’s squad for the three-match ODI series in India is a blend of Indian Premier League (IPL) regulars and international rookies. Unsurprisingly, captain Michael Bracewell is banking on the experience of the former to help the newcomers cope with the pressure of playing in front of packed Indian crowds.

“We’re used to playing in front of much smaller crowds in New Zealand, particularly in domestic cricket,” Bracewell said on the eve of the series opener at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium.
