It’s the old dilemma of “would you rather?” – the choice between two difficult hypotheticals – which Carlos Alcaraz thought he had the answer for upon arriving in Australia, only for a curve ball to be thrown his way.

The top seed comes to Melbourne Park for Australian Open 2026 on the verge of history as he bids to complete the career Grand Slam this fortnight, a mission which begins on Sunday night against Australia’s Adam Walton.

We’ve heard from our first Australian winner Talia Gibson, who was completely blown away with the number of Australian fans who turned up to watch her play on day one.

Kia Arena was packed, with fans in green and gold, singing out chants for their home talent.

“Walking back out on this court today was just the most amazing feeling,” Gibson said.

“Thank you so much to everyone who came out, I couldn’t believe the number of people that were in here today. It just means a lot, thank you so much.”
