Jana Nayagan Movie Release Date Hearing Live Update: Madras HC reserves order

Amazon has warned that it would initiate legal action if there was no clarity on the film’s release by December 31. During the censor certificate case, the producers informed the High Court about the mounting pressure over the film’s release uncertainty.

Arguments from both sides concluded after nearly half a day of hearings. The High Court has reserved its order and will announce the verdict later, with no date specified, likely within a week.

Amazon Prime has reportedly cautioned KVN Productions, stating it holds no responsibility for the film’s theatrical release delays. The platform has asserted that Jana Nayagan will be released on OTT strictly as per the date mentioned in the agreement.

Madras High Court Reserves Verdict On CBFC Appeal Against Direction To Certify Vijay Starrer 'Jana…

The Madras High Court on Tuesday (January 20) reserved its verdict in the appeal preferred by the Central Board of Film Certification against a single bench order directing it to grant UA certificate to actor-politican Vijay's Tamil film 'Jana Nayagan'.

The bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan reserved orders after a 3-hour long hearing today. The bench had previously stayed the single judge order.

During the hearing today, Additional Solicitor General ARL Sundaresan, appearing for CBFC, made two-fold arguments. One, the Board was not given time to file a counter affidavit and two, the communication dated January 06 for review of the film certification by the Revising Committee was not challenged by the producers.

Live: High Court says censor board to take final call on Jana Nayagan release

The Madras High Court will resume hearing in the Jana Nayagan vs Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) case after the Supreme Court refused to intervene. The makers and fans of Thalapathy Vijay are waiting with bated breath to see if the film will clear the hurdles and release soon. Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan heard the matter on January 20 at 11:30 am. The bench heard the arguments and reserved its orders.

It is to be noted that the Supreme Court has directed the Madras High Court to decide the case on this date. Jana Nayagan, regarded as Vijay's final film before his full-fledged political entry, was marred with issues when the CBFC withheld the censor certificate owing to an internal complaint. The film was then referred to the revising committee.
