In recent years, the display has changed in size, but not in one vital element: the Dynamic Island. Meanwhile a separate report promises a striking upgrade for the iPhone 18 display, with greater brightness on offer.
The Dynamic Island is the lozenge-shaped area near the top of the display that first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro which debuted in September 2022. It replaced the larger cut-out found on all Face ID iPhones from the iPhone X onwards. It’s now found only on the iPhone 16e in Apple’s current range.

The report claims the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will debut advanced LTPO-plus OLED panels, an upgrade that is said to improve power efficiency compared with current displays. Beyond battery savings, the technology is also expected to enable new hardware layouts, including placing the infrared sensor used for Face ID beneath the screen.
People familiar with Apple’s plans believe the company may go further by hiding the front-facing camera under the display as well. Those sources suggest this change would not come at the cost of image quality, addressing a key concern that has slowed adoption of under-display cameras in high-end smartphones.
