UFC Star Gives Classy Response to Inappropriate Question About Ian Garry’s Family Amid Race to Fight Islam Makhachev
UFC rising welterweight star Ian Garry has attracted attention for several years, though not always for his fighting. Initially, fans knew him and his wife, Layla Machado Garry, as one of MMA’s power couples until they discovered she had written a book years ago titled How to Be a WAG. As a result, the book, essentially a guide on attracting younger athletes, sparked satirical and critical comments online. Recently, the controversy intensified when the name of Islam Makhachev’s potential opponent entered the conversation.
With the couple already having a 14-year age gap, the situation escalated further when Dillon Danis leaked DMs from Layla Garry dating back to 2018, prompting several UFC fighters to criticize Ian and post degrading remarks. UFC star Colby Covington notably asked in 2024, “How many of you guys have f–ked Ian Garry’s wife?” Now, the same question resurfaced at UFC 325 in Sydney during a Q&A session hosted by Carlos Prates.

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev and former titleholder Kamaru Usman appear to be on a collision course.
Almost immediately after defeating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322, UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev called for a matchup with former titleholder Kamaru Usman for his first title defense. Usman, who returned with a win over Joaquin Buckley at UFC Atlanta last summer, is regarded by many as one of the greatest fighters in Mixed Martial Arts history.
While fresh talent like Carlos Prates, Michael Morales, and Shavkat Rakhmonov make sense for Makhachev’s next fight, the newly-crowned welterweight titleholder remains insistent on fighting Usman next. The fight could come to fruition this spring, as the UFC puts together its 2026 event schedule.

At UFC 322, Islam Makhachev dominated Jack Della Maddalena to claim the welterweight title, becoming just the 11th two-division champion in UFC history. Despite several other top contenders lined up at 170 pounds, Makhachev quickly started to call for his first title defense to come against former champion Kamaru Usman, a bout Usman has also lobbied for. And on Saturday, the two continued to try to push for this matchup.
Both Makhachev and Usman were in attendance at UFC 324 on Saturday, and during the event, the two fighters met up backstage to have a good-natured faceoff, with Khabib Nurmagomedov along for good measure.
