The Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version Games Are Releasing on Nintendo Switch
Pokémon Day is only a week away, and fans will have something extra to look forward to while celebrating 30 years of Pokémon—the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version games are coming to Nintendo Switch! These classic remakes of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green will be available to download from Nintendo eShop after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents beginning Friday, February 27, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. PST.

Nintendo has announced that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions, which originally released on the Game Boy Advance, are getting standalone Switch eShop releases Feb. 27th, 2026. Following this announcement fans have had a number of questions, and Nintendo has followed up with a FAQ that gives much-needed insight.
Among the many things covered in the FAQ is the topic of Pokémon Red/Blue. As this year celebrates the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, many thought the original titles would see a re-release on Switch somehow. Now with Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen announced for Switch, Nintendo anticipated the question about a Red/Blue re-release would once again be brought up, which is why they’ve provided a statement.
