Julien Leblanc’s Moment Has Finally Arrived
Last March, Julien Leblanc registered a third-round doctor’s stoppage win over UFC alum Darian Weeks to claim the vacant Samourai MMA middleweight title.
His next bout eight months later was scheduled against Neemias Santana, who went the distance against Ilian Bouafia on Week 1 of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 9.
For the longtime regional standout, consecutive wins over individuals with UFC connectivity felt like a sure-fire way to capture the promotion’s attention and perhaps get the call he’d been hoping to receive for the last several years. But in a career filled with cancellations, pandemics and injuries, things didn’t work out as planned: Santana withdrew and was replaced with fellow Canadian Ryan Rohovich, whom Leblanc dispatched with relative ease to register his fifth straight win and third straight finish.

Julien Leblanc Talks Full Circle Moment at UFC Winnipeg
A veteran of the sport for over a dozen years, Julien Leblanc finally got the call to the big show. Having tried to just about every avenue to get that call, Leblanc had been close a time or two, but it ultimately hadn’t happened for him.
“I’ve been trying to get on contenders for two, three years now – and it didn’t happen. I was actually cut from the Ultimate Fighter, the season that Robert [Valentin] was on it, and he went in final. I was like in the one of the last, I was not in the last alternate, but I was like waiting,” LeBlanc explained. “I had signed the contract waiting to know if I was flying out to Vegas to go and unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance.”
