José Montanha Ready To Finally Unleash ‘The Monster’
For José Montanha, the hardest part wasn’t easing a UFC contract.
After two scheduled UFC appearances fell though, the 6-1 Brazilian prospect has spent months wondering when his opportunity would arrive. Now with Saturday’s matchup against 11-5 Louie Sutherland officially set, every setback has only made his debut more meaningful.
“I’m very happy to be here,” Montanha said. “I’m taking one moment at a time, and I’m looking to have a lot of fun.”

Jose Montanha turned the tables on Louie Sutherland and scored an underdog win in his UFC Fight Night 284 debut.
Montanha (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) fended off an early takedown attempt from Sutherland (11-6 MMA, 1-3 UFC) in the heavyweight bout on Saturday at Meta APEX in Las Vegas, responded with a takedown of his own, took the tap and got the tap at the 1:50 mark of Round 1.
Montanha now officially joins the winner's circle in the heavyweight division and will look to make his mark. The Brazilian admitted he's had an emotional journey to this point, and to get the win, it means much to himself and the memory of his late father.
