Carlo Luzzi has worked with Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Marc Márquez, three champions capable of winning in very different ways. In an interview with the Atutogaz podcast, reported by Motosan, the Italian engineer starts with what he learned by observing them up close: "I have been very lucky in my career, because when you work with riders like that, you can see the difference between a champion and a very good rider".The quality Luzzi associates with Lorenzo is determination. He met him in the Majorcan's early years in MotoGP and was struck by his ability to pursue a goal without ever becoming discouraged. "He had boundless self-belief. He had incredible determination", he says. Jorge tried to close every gap to Valentino Rossi, even when the technical conditions did not allow him to replicate what his team-mate was doing: "Sometimes we could see differences between him and Valentino, and Jorge did everything possible to eliminate them. Even when the tyres were different and it was not possible to do the same thing as the other rider". That search for the limit could cost him a crash, but it never affected "his will and determination to achieve the goal".With Stoner, the defining trait was different. "Casey is an incredible talent, a pure talent", says Luzzi, explaining that talent can be measured by the relationship between the result achieved and the effort required to achieve it. The Australian had an approach that was not particularly inclined towards lengthy technical discussions: "He was not interested in talking to the technicians or trying to understand how to improve the bike". In the garage, he could be very harsh in his assessments of the machine. He usually had two: “This bike is a piece of shit”, or “This bike is a pile of shit”. Then he would get on it and go incredibly fast. He would drive you crazy in the garage, but when he went out on track, you forgave him everything".It is from the comparison between these two riders that Luzzi's assessment of Márquez comes: "Marc is the sum of Casey's talent and Lorenzo's determination". According to the engineer, the Spaniard also adds «a touch of improvisation, that ability to deliver the result at the right moment». Asked whether he is the perfect rider, Luzzi replies: "Among those I know, I would say he is the closest to perfection". And he concludes: "It is no coincidence that he has won so much, because he is a rider who combines all the qualities needed to do well".

Gigi Dall’Igna expects “cliffhanger” ending to MotoGP title fight

Gigi Dall’Igna says Ducati’s Austrian struggles underline the “absolute unpredictability” of this year's MotoGP championship battle

Ducati Corse boss Gigi Dall’Igna expects a “cliffhanger” ending to the 2026 MotoGP title fight after another dramatic swing in Austria.

The Red Bull Ring has traditionally been Ducati’s most successful circuit, with the manufacturer winning ten of the previous 12 grands prix heading into this year’s event.

Reigning champion Marc Marquez arrived on top of the world championship for the first time this season, having overturned a 102-point deficit.

The Spaniard also took a double victory at the Red Bull Ring last year, but a season of “absolute unpredictability” continued with the Desmosedicis struggling for grip on the stiffer-construction rear tyre at “a track where we had always dominated.”
