Authorities across multiple states have enhanced preparedness and relief operations as heavy monsoon rains continue to cause flood-like conditions. Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have issued red and orange alerts respectively, while Assam and Uttarakhand remain on high alert due to rising water levels.
In Gujarat, the government has placed the administration in Surat on high alert as a storm from the Bay of Bengal approaches. Surat Municipal Commissioner M. Nagarajan confirmed a ‘Red Alert’ has been declared for the city and district for July 31. He stated, “In anticipation of adverse weather, the Gujarat government has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Surat city and the district for the 31st. The State Emergency Operations Centre has issued comprehensive guidelines to ensure public safety.” He also noted that disaster response teams have been deployed at strategic locations to manage emergencies.
