    ‘Shock to the system’: Anasta speaks on potential Munster exit

    Talks between the PNG Chiefs and Cameron Munster may have been approved by Melbourne, but the playmaker’s manager, Braith Anasta, claims that does not mean he will be leaving the Storm.

    Anasta confirmed permission had been granted for his client to speak with PNG when speaking to Triple M Breakfast on Friday, with the Storm agreeing to the gesture out of respect for the champion.

    Munster doesn’t come off-contract until the end of next season, which means he was set to become a free agent from November 1.

    The Storm acknowledged in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald on Thursday that if PNG were to table an offer that they couldn’t compete with, the club “wouldn’t begrudge” Munster for taking it up.

Just ask Claudia Winkleman, who revealed last week that she won’t be returning to do a second season of The Claudia Winkleman Show on the BBC. The series, which launched in March, filling the gap while The Graham Norton Show was on hiatus, was received with lukewarm reviews and so-so ratings. The decision to call time on it is reported to be Winkleman’s – “I was just too nervous to enjoy it,” she admitted – though, given the cuts rippling through the corporation, she may have opted to jump before being pushed.

    It is very Claudia Winkleman to blame the failure of her chat show on herself. Usually when a TV programme flops or gets the heave-ho, the talent associated with it either get defensive and blame the schedule or the concept, or they never mention it again and hope everyone forgets about it.

    But this is Winkleman, who has never turned down an opportunity for self-deprecation – when the series was announced last year she said, “I’m obviously going to be awful”.     Jurgen Klopp started his reign as Germany's head coach by threatening to quit if the media invades his family's privacy.

    The former Liverpool manager was appointed on a four-year deal on Friday to replace Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned this month after Germany's shock World Cup defeat by Paraguay in the last 32.

    But the 59-year-old issued a warning to the media as he held his first press conference as Germany's head coach.

    "If you behave badly and don't leave my family in peace then I'll be gone, I'll just turn away," Klopp said.

    Juergen Klopp has signed a deal until 2030 to become Germany coach and told a press conference in Frankfurt he was "delighted."

    The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss was the DFB's immediate first choice to succeed Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned following the World Cup last-32 exit to Paraguay in June.

    Klopp has been global head of soccer at the sports arm of drinks maker Red Bull, but will now lead Germany into the Nations League, qualifying for Euro 2028 in the British Isles and qualifiers for the 2030 World Cup. His contract will begin on August 15.

    Reed Shannon confirmed that work on the League of Legends universe is in full swing, despite the lull in announcements.

    Reed Shannon, who voiced Ekko in the animated series "Arcane", spoke about the future of his character in the League of Legends universe. In an interview with The Direct, the actor confirmed that he continues to work with Riot Games on unnamed projects and believes that the company has big plans for the franchise's development.

    Shannon noted that after the completion of "Arcane", Ekko's story could continue in a variety of formats. According to the actor, the character already has so much material in the game itself that a separate story could be compiled from his lines:

    The voice of Arcane's Ekko is discussing the future of his character following the confirmation that the series' production team is actively working on potential spin-off series. The Netflix animated series was an adaptation of Riot Games' League of Legends online multiplayer game, which ran for two seasons on Netflix from 2021 to 2024 and featured the voice talents of Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Kevin Alejandro, Katie Leung, and Harry Lloyd. Arcane's popularity quickly fuelled hopes for a continuation, and co-creator Christian Linke revealed that the team was "pretty aggressively developing" several Arcane spin-off ideas in 2024.

    During an interview with The Direct for his upcoming movie Splash City, Reed Shannon, who voices the time-manipulating rebel Ekko in Arcane, revealed how he has continued to portray the character in Riot's projects after the show's ending and his ideas for Riot's next Arcane-like project.

    Arcane Ekko’s Voice Actor Teases Riot Has “So Many Different Plans”

    Reed Anderson, Ekko’s voice actor from League of Legends Netflix series Arcane, has teased that Riot Games has more series coming.

    Back in 2024, the show’s co-creator Christian Linke revealed that Riot was “aggressively developing” several Arcane spin-off ideas.

    Now, in an interview with The Direct, Anderson has fueled the rumours by promising that Riot has “so many different plans” for the future of the franchise.

    The actor then revealed that he was recording Ekko voice lines later that week and was told that the Ekko role will probably last his lifetime.

    Xbox is introducing backwards compatibility for PC and handheld devices, starting with four original titles: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy.

    These games will be available for purchase on PC and through Game Pass. Existing digital licenses on console will transfer to PC and handheld devices.

    A $20 Anko Automatic Mouse Mover sold by Kmart has reopened a familiar question for hybrid workplaces: should employee performance be judged by visible computer activity or completed work?

    The device drew attention after a social media post suggested it could help remote employees appear active while away from their desks.

    As news.com.au reporter Eleanor Wicklund reported, the USB-powered product physically moves a computer mouse to prevent a PC or Mac from entering sleep mode.

    It includes settings that can keep a computer active for 30 minutes, one hour, two hours or four hours.

    Five months after a court struck down many of Donald Trump's tariffs, the US has announced a suite of new imposts for all of its major trading partners.

    Australia has been hit with a 12.5 per cent tariff, while some countries have a 10 per cent tariff.

    The new tariffs came into force at 2:01pm AEST on Friday. A temporary 10 per cent tariff lapsed at the same time, so Australia's tariff rate increased 2.5 percentage points.

    The Trump administration has placed a 12.5 per cent tariff on Australian exports to the US.

    US imposes tariffs on dozens of trade partners over 'forced labour' imports

    The US has imposed new tariffs on 60 trading partners, accounting for the vast majority of its imports, over claims they failed to properly stop forced labour.

    The duties, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, target key economic partners – including the UK, China, the European Union, Canada, Japan and India. They came into effect on Friday, as a temporary 10% tax on foreign goods introduced earlier this year expired.

    The move is the latest escalation in the global trade war reignited by US President Donald Trump when he returned to office last year.

    The US Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that many of the tariffs imposed globally under emergency powers were illegally enacted.

    Qantas’s new ultra long-distance aircraft has landed on Australian soil for the first time on Friday after a 19-hour test flight from France.

    The Airbus A350-1000ULR, designed for Qantas to complete some of the longest commercial flights in the world, set off on a nonstop journey from Airbus’ manufacturing facility Toulouse, France on Thursday, destined for Melbourne.

    The planes have been designed to fly up to 22 hours nonstop for the company’s Sydney to London direct route, expected to start in October 2027.

    Qantas’ new ultra-long-haul Project Sunrise plane has officially landed in Australia for the first time after completing a historic 20-hour test flight.

    The specially built A350-1000ULR aircraft, which is set to deliver the airline’s first non-stop Sydney to London flights from late 2027, embarked on the 17,000km flight from Toulouse to Melbourne on Friday.

    He was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine.

    Socceroos hero allegedly tests positive for cocaine after BMW stopped

    Australia’s breakout World Cup star Cristian Volpato allegedly tested positive to cocaine after being pulled over by police in Sydney in the early hours of Friday morning.

    The 22-year-old was allegedly twice detected speeding in a BMW Coupé across the Anzac Bridge in a two-hour period – first at 11.05pm Thursday night, then at 1.10am Friday. Police allege that both times he was driving well in excess of the speed limit – clocked between 86-94 km/h in a 60 km/h zone the first time, then at 109 km/h in a 60km/h zone.

    A NSW Police statement said the driver was breath tested the first time he was pulled over and returned a negative reading. He was drug tested the second time he was stopped and allegedly recorded a positive result for cocaine.

    Socceroos star Cristian Volpato allegedly tests positive to cocaine during roadside test

    Socceroos star Cristian Volpato allegedly tested positive to cocaine after being caught driving at more than 50km/h over the speed limit in Sydney overnight.

    The 22-year-old – one of Australia’s brightest young football talents – was allegedly driving a BMW at 109km/h in a 60km/h zone across Anzac Bridge, west of Sydney’s CBD, just after 1am on Friday. He allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine after telling officers he had not taken drugs.

    Volpato had been stopped two hours earlier on Anzac Bridge and issued an infringement notice after allegedly being caught driving more than 20km/h over the speed limit. He was estimated to be driving the BMW at between 86km/h and 94km/h in a 60km/h zone, police said in a statement. The 22-year-old returned a negative result to a roadside breath test.
