He was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine.

Australia’s breakout World Cup star Cristian Volpato allegedly tested positive to cocaine after being pulled over by police in Sydney in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 22-year-old was allegedly twice detected speeding in a BMW Coupé across the Anzac Bridge in a two-hour period – first at 11.05pm Thursday night, then at 1.10am Friday. Police allege that both times he was driving well in excess of the speed limit – clocked between 86-94 km/h in a 60 km/h zone the first time, then at 109 km/h in a 60km/h zone.

A NSW Police statement said the driver was breath tested the first time he was pulled over and returned a negative reading. He was drug tested the second time he was stopped and allegedly recorded a positive result for cocaine.

Socceroos star Cristian Volpato allegedly tests positive to cocaine during roadside test

Socceroos star Cristian Volpato allegedly tested positive to cocaine after being caught driving at more than 50km/h over the speed limit in Sydney overnight.

The 22-year-old – one of Australia’s brightest young football talents – was allegedly driving a BMW at 109km/h in a 60km/h zone across Anzac Bridge, west of Sydney’s CBD, just after 1am on Friday. He allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine after telling officers he had not taken drugs.

Volpato had been stopped two hours earlier on Anzac Bridge and issued an infringement notice after allegedly being caught driving more than 20km/h over the speed limit. He was estimated to be driving the BMW at between 86km/h and 94km/h in a 60km/h zone, police said in a statement. The 22-year-old returned a negative result to a roadside breath test.
