UK rapper Yung Filly found not guilty of raping woman after Australian show

UK rapper Yung Filly has been found not guilty of raping a fan after performing at a nightclub in Australia in 2024.

The YouTuber, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, had been accused of sexually assaulting the woman, then 20 years old, in his hotel room after he performed in Hillarys, a coastal suburb of Perth.

On Friday a jury found him not guilty for three counts of sexual penetration without consent.

But the jury could not come to a decision on three other counts of the same charge.

Barrientos was also found not guilty for one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and also for strangulation.

UK YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly has been acquitted of raping a young fan after a concert in Perth, but could face a retrial after a jury was unable to agree on three further counts of rape.

But the entertainer, real name Andres Barrientos, 30, was found guilty of two counts of assault causing bodily harm.

He has not been able to leave Australia without court permission since being charged with the violent sexual assault of the 20-year-old woman in a hotel after a nightclub concert in 2024.

On the surface, Ariana Grande’s “Petal” is a sister album to its predecessor, 2024’s “Eternal Sunshine” — it was made with the same two collaborators, Ilya Salmanzadeh and Max Martin, and it also was entirely written, performed and produced by the three of them. Usually, that formula means a chapter two: more of the same but different.

Not this time. This sister is darker, moodier and a lot more blunt than “Sunshine,” and her emotions are more volatile, less heartbroken, and much less internalized. It’s a different Ariana, musically and especially lyrically.

Grande braced her fans for a change in a widely circulated interview earlier this week. “I think [fans] will feel familiarity and comfort in it,” she said of the album. “Yet at the same time it’s very experimental and different for me, and also I wrote from a place that I don’t usually, which is unfiltered rage,” she laughed. “I usually am too shy to tap into that, and I think this time I didn’t filter as much as I usually do.”

Anthony Seibold has put pen to paper on a deal to return to coaching in the NRL, signing on as an assistant with the PNG Chiefs.

Sacked Manly mentor Anthony Seibold has been given an NRL coaching lifeline with the PNG Chiefs signing the former Dally M Coach of the Year to their roster.

Ahead of the Chiefs' inaugural season in 2028, the club announced that Seibold would become one of the assistant coaches under the guise of head coach Willie Peters.

It comes after the 51-year-old was dumped by the Sea Eagles after just three games into the 2026 season following a series of losses and replaced with Manly legend Kieran Foran.

El Niño is strengthening across the Pacific Ocean at an alarming rate and could annihilate all records in the modern era.

The rapid warming of our largest ocean is supplying additional heat into the Earth's atmosphere, contributing to a summer of extreme heatwaves and fires across Europe and North America.

But with El Niño still months away from peaking, its impact on global weather will intensify through the back half of 2026, including in Australia, raising the prospect of our hottest spring on record and a heightened risk of drought and fires.

How a super El Niño affects the global climate

From sharky shores and starving seabirds to droughts, wildfires, and floods.

On June 11, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued an El Niño advisory after temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean remained higher than average for several months. Declaring an El Niño isn’t out of the ordinary, as they happen in cycles every two to seven years. But this one could be extraordinary.

Some are calling it a “super” or “Godzilla” El Niño, and the NOAA predicts an 81 percent chance that it could develop to a “very strong” level, rivaling the historic and devastating El Niños of 1982-1983 and 1997-1998. Experts are predicting it will likely reach its peak this winter and into 2027, bringing heat, rainfall, and other potential extreme weather events.

As the chances of a ‘super’ El Niño continue to rise — now 81%, according to federal scientists — researchers are looking back to 2015 and 2016, when a Pacific heat wave combined with a strong El Niño threw some of the West Coast’s most important commercial fishing fleets into turmoil.

They say we could be looking at a repeat. Or worse.

“I think we’re likely to break global temperature records with this next El Niño,” said Malin Pinsky, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at UC Santa Cruz. “So it’s very concerning and it is likely to have very big impacts on marine fisheries.”

George and Amal Clooney have been forced to evacuate their home in south-eastern France as a wildfire burned nearby, his agent confirmed to Associated Press on Thursday.

The Clooneys bought their hilltop estate, Domaine du Canadel, in Brignoles in the Var in 2021 and it has since become their primary residence. Last December, the French government awarded the whole family â including the coupleâs nine-year-old twins â French citizenship.

In a letter to Didier Bremond, the mayor of Brignoles, the actor wrote that while âat this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment and as we evacuate Brignolesâ, he wanted to âemphasise two thingsâ.

Paris: Hollywood actor George Clooney and his British wife Amal, an international human rights lawyer, have evacuated their luxury home in south-eastern France as a result of the wildfires blazing in the region.

The star behind the Ocean’s Eleven franchise and other films made the statement on Thursday (France time) in a letter to Didier Bremond, the mayor of the town of Brignoles, about 90 kilometres east of Marseille, Clooney’s publicist Guido Gotz said in an email.

Addressed “Dear Didier”, the letter said the Clooneys had “no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment”.

But as they evacuate Brignoles they wanted to assure Bremond that, whatever happened to the community, “we’ll be part of making it whole”, the letter said.

DOJ, state officials detail fraud enforcement in SC, across Southeast

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The Department of Justice (DOJ) and several state officials detailed their efforts in enforcing fraud cases in South Carolina, as well as across the Southeast.

During a press conference in Columbia on Thursday, DOJ Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald announced that since July 4, the National Fraud Enforcement Division has charged 12 individuals in the Southeast with taxpayer-funded program fraud totaling over $90 million in losses.

McDonald says the arrests include a $20 million food stamp scheme in Miami and a $1.5 million charter school embezzlement scheme in Louisiana.

The DOJ signed formal data-sharing agreements with 10 state agencies across six states to streamline corporate and benefits tracking for early fraud detection.

Justice Department Highlights Alabama Cases in Southeast Fraud Enforcement Initiative

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced a series of fraud enforcement actions across the Southeastern United States, including three cases in Alabama, as part of a broader initiative involving federal and state agencies.

According to the Justice Department, the coordinated effort spans 17 cases across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina. Officials said the investigations involve more than $350 million in intended losses and include allegations related to tax fraud, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Small Business Administration loans and housing benefits.

As part of the initiative, the Justice Department also announced new federal-state cooperation agreements designed to strengthen fraud detection and enforcement. Alabama is among the participating states entering into data-sharing agreements intended to improve investigators' ability to identify fraud schemes involving business registrations and public benefits.

Alex de Minaur has knocked rising teenage Aussie star Cruz Hewitt out of the Washington Open in the second round.

Cruz Hewitt was gasping for air with a towel over his head 15 minutes into his first official clash with Alex de Minaur in Washington on Friday.

The scoreboard was sobering for the 17-year-old rising star: 5-0 to de Minaur, his friend and regular guest at the dinner table for Christmas. Hewitt had won only six points, while nervously spraying almost double as many errors.
