    Perth Glory owner and developer Ross Pelligra is planning a $300 million residential, hotel and sports precinct around the women team’s training ground in Perth’s north-east, hoping to tap into the real estate returns to help fund the soccer club.

    “It’s an urban renewal project. The beauty of it, it’s got sports and accommodation there for the downsizers in the area,” he told The Australian Financial Review. “We’re designing it around a lot for the things that women require.     A row has erupted between broadcaster Chris Packham and Jeremy Clarkson after comments Mr Packham made on Celebrity Gogglebox about the illustrated opening sequence of Clarkson’s Farm.

    Watching the Amazon Prime series, Mr Packham said of the animation: “That’s not what a farm looks like. Most farms are horrible monocultures which have been sprayed with deadly chemicals… the ground has been pumped full of fertiliser and most of the animals are indoors, in crates, being crushed and kept in the dark.”

    Mr Clarkson hit back in his latest Sun column, describing Mr Packham as “endlessly angry” and pointing out that the sequence was “a drawing”.

    But now – and not for the first time – he has ripped up much of that goodwill with an unpleasant rant that makes you wonder if the more pleasant Clarkson we see in Clarkson’s Farm is merely an act for the cameras. In 2022, the target was Meghan Markle, whom he fantasised about booing in a Game of Thrones-style shame walk. Now it is the turn of BBC nature presenter Chris Packham, who had the nerve to critique the dystopian reality, as he sees it, of industrial-scale farming in the UK.

    Jeremy Clarkson branded 'disingenuous' as feud with BBC star escalates

    Jeremy Clarkson has been accused of being among numerous "industrial farmers" concealing the true nature of modern agriculture. Naturalist Chris Packham recently slammed the show's depiction of farming while appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside his stepdaughter, Megan McCubbin.

    During the programme, he alleged the former Top Gear host was giving audiences the "wrong idea" about farming through his popular series Clarkson's Farm, which has chronicled Jeremy's experience running Diddly Squat Farm over five seasons.

    After Jeremy hit back at his claims, Chris told us: "Clarkson is being disingenuous and the industrial farmers are making a smokescreen to hide their horrors. I made the comments about the silly idealistic stereotyped cartoon at the top of his programme, he knows that."

    Ferrell’s brash ladies man and loser golfer could have been hilarious. But comedy has sped up over the last two decades, and all the genital gags and dodgy references fall flat

    In the 2000s, American comedy had a rude awakening. While the preceding decade had been all attractive sophisticates bantering in big cities, the new millennium arrived in a miasma of crude, cartoonish buffoonery: Austin Powers, American Pie, Dude, Where’s My Car? These were, sadly, the sacred texts of a millennial adolescence.

    In comparison, the work of the Frat Pack – a group of comic actors that included Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Seth Rogen and Luke and Owen Wilson, plus writer-director Judd Apatow – seemed almost highbrow. By the middle of the decade, this cohort had funnelled ribald irreverence into much better films, including Zoolander, Dodgeball and Anchorman. Eventually, though, the worm turned; as chin-stroking dramedy and nerdy Marvel wisecracking took hold of the zeitgeist, this PC-needling silliness fell out of fashion.

    ‘The Hawk’ Review: Will Ferrell and a Stellar Supporting Cast Are Wasted in Netflix’s Whiff of a Golf Comedy

    Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro and Luke Wilson co-star in a show that will remind you of better golf comedies and Ferrell-fronted sports stories.

    You might think it would be impossible for a television show featuring Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Chris Parnell and David Hornsby not to generate at least a few laughs.

    Netflix‘s The Hawk, a new 10-episode comedy, proves you correct.

    The Hawk, created by Harper Steele, Chris Henchy and Ferrell, does generate a few laughs. But it probably establishes a new baseline representing the absolute minimum number of laughs it would be possible for a television show featuring Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Chris Parnell and David Hornsby to generate.

    Across the 8 seasons Annabel Crabb has been making interview series Kitchen Cabinet for ABC, one of the common themes she has noticed is the influence of parents on politicians.

    “This comes out really strongly in the Angus Taylor interview, and obviously the role of Anthony Albanese’s mother in his life is quite profound,” she says of her current interview subjects.

    “But even with (Greens Senator) Mehreen Faruqi. The reason that she came to Australia was that her dad had studied here under the Colombo Plan and waxed lyrical about Australia, that she came here with her brand new husband and her baby son, knowing nobody here.

    The much-loved ABC political journalist is back with her cooking series, Kitchen Cabinet, and in the first episode, which sees her cooking in The Lodge kitchen with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese,’ she’s applying her considerable interviewing skills to tease some illuminating anecdotes from the PM.

    Crabb has brought Wagon Wheels, a childhood favourite of the PMs (she thinks, though in reality he can’t stand them), for desert, and she’s in the kitchen as Albo whips up the first course, a plate of orecchiette pasta with broccolini, anchovies, garlic and chilli — it’s all very convivial.

    Ben King is poised to complete one of the most dramatic contract backflips in recent AFL history, with the Gold Coast spearhead set to reject the Suns’ lucrative long-term offer and instead nominate Hawthorn as his preferred destination for 2027.

    Hawthorn has been flagged as a potential destination for Gold Coast spearhead Ben King if he decides to leave the Suns, but does the move actually make sense for the Hawks? Tall forward Mitch Lewis put together one of his best games for the club against Richmond, dominating in the front half with five first half goals in what was a scintillating display. Lewis has formed a dangerous three-pronged attack with veteran Jack Gunston and the exciting Mabior Chol this year, while youngsters Calsher Dear and Aidan Schubert are also waiting in the wings for an opportunity. So, will targeting King upset the apple cart if it means Lewis explores his options as an unrestricted free agent? Or does Sam Mitchell think King could be the long-term replacement for Gunston? On one hand, adding a player who is currently second in the race for the Coleman Medal would be a huge boost, but perhaps Lewis, a player who's already entrenched in the system and is putting together one of his best injury-free seasons, might also be a reasonable option.     ‘Do I need to get involved?’ Hawks coach addresses star’s future as great fires trade warning

    Hawthorn legend Jordan Lewis has cautioned his former club that signing Ben King could disrupt culture as the Hawks also look to lock away Mitch Lewis.

    Lewis is coming off a season-best five goal performance against Richmond to take his season tally to 30 majors from a career-best 18 games after a wretched run of injury since being drafted in 2016.

    There’s been talk that if the Hawks do in fact land Suns free agent King on a lucrative deal, that could cause Lewis to depart Hawthorn.

    Twenty-two hours in an economy seat? I can’t begin to imagine what that’s going to feel like, but that’s what Qantas is proposing for its Project Sunrise, non-stop Sydney to London flights. The longest flight I’ve done in economy is the 14.5-hour marathon with Emirates from Sydney to Dubai, and that’s enough for me. By about five hours into the flight I’ve watched a movie, had a meal and now I’m getting restless and checking the flight map, and we’re not even halfway. The last four hours are torture.

    PHILADELPHIA — As the calendar flipped from June to July, a resurgent stretch for Mookie Betts turned into a period of regression. So manager Dave Roberts took action, dropping his shortstop to fifth in the order for Monday night's series opener against the Phillies.

    The move may have unlocked something in Betts, who responded with his second multihomer game of 2026 as part of a season-high four-hit showing. It was the lowest Betts hit in the order since 2015 as a member of the Red Sox.

Shohei Ohtani (left knee soreness) will not pitch in this series and will be limited to DH-only duties for the foreseeable future. He played catch in the outfield pregame on Monday.

    KPMG appoints new CEO as massive job cuts loom

    The board of KPMG Australia has appointed John Sams as chief executive effective immediately as the embattled firm prepares to cut hundreds of employees to counteract the loss of business from the whistleblower scandal.

    Sams is from the tax, corporate finance and infrastructure advisory side of KPMG’s business which has not been implicated in the scandal where some of the firm’s most senior executives allegedly accessed confidential client information to win new customers.

    “The Board believes that John has the strong attributes required to be the firm’s successful leader – including agility, courage and integrity,” independent chairman Michael Ebeid said.

    KPMG announces new CEO following audit scandal fallout

    KPMG has promoted long-term partner John Sams to chief executive, filling the role vacated when Andrew Yates resigned over the audit leaks scandal that has engulfed the firm since March.

    Sams has been KPMG’s chief financial officer and a member of its local executive leadership team since last September and had firmed as favourite for the top job in recent weeks.

    A major accounting firm under intense scrutiny amid accusations it used confidential client information to win contracts, has appointed a new chief executive.

    John Sams, KPMG Australia's chief financial officer and chief operating officer, will take over as chief executive effective immediately, the firm announced on Tuesday.

    Mr Sams said he would work to provide confidence to clients and the firm's people, deliver on an action plan that KPMG Australia announced in June to address governance and integrity issues, and to engage constructively with a parliamentary committee and regulators.

    One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has told a business breakfast in Perth she believes migration from radical Islamic countries should be banned.

    She angrily denied suggestions from the event's host this amounted to a "version" of the White Australia policy.

    About 80 protesters gathered outside the event, chanting phrases such as "migrants are welcome, racists are not".

    One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has angrily denied suggestions her strident opposition to migration by anyone from "radical Islamic countries" amounts to a version of the White Australia policy.

    Ms Hanson was speaking at a Perth leadership breakfast hosted by The West Australian newspaper after returning from the UK, where she had blamed the end of the White Australia policy for migration issues in Australia during an interview with far-right activist and convicted criminal Tommy Robinson.

    A dark chapter of Australia's past is resurfacing in immigration politics

    One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has sparked a new discussion about the resurgence of a 'White Australia' policy — a controversial series of laws that discriminated against non-European migrants.

    Hanson, during an appearance on a podcast with the British far-right, anti-immigration activist and convicted criminal Tommy Robinson last week, suggested that scrapping the White Australia policy was the root cause of apparent migration issues in Australia.

    "It started in 1973 with Gough Whitlam, so they opened up and got rid of the White Australia policy, then they started bringing in the different migrants," she said.
