Victory return to NSW for Aus Cup tie

Melbourne Victory visit APIA Leichhardt in the Hahn Australia Cup Quarter-Final.

The last-eight tie, on Wednesday, August 19, kick-off 7:30pm AEST, at Leichhardt Oval, pits one of only two remaining Isuzu UTE A-League sides in the competition versus the league leaders from NPL New South Wales.

APIA knocked out its rivals for the league title, Sydney United 58, in the Round of 16, coming through a penalty shootout, just as Victory did to beat their interstate rivals, Western Sydney Wanderers, when Jack Duncan saved three spot kicks.

The matchup, live on Paramount+, is the first meeting between the two clubs since they met in a 2018 Australia Cup match, and is for a place in the Semi-Final against Sydney FC, who edged SD Raiders on Tuesday night.

Hahn Australia Cup 2026 QF MD2 Preview: APIA Leichhardt hope to create history against Melbourne Victory

APIA are in red hot form in both league and cup competitions and are well placed to tackle the two-time Hahn Australia Cup winners.

APIA Leichhardt have the chance to reach the Hahn Australia Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history when they take on Melbourne Victory.

The last time these sides played was in 2018, when APIA ‘Cupset’ Victory 3-2 in the Round of 16 to reach the quarter-final stage. They will take heart from that matchup, as well as the strength of member federation teams in general this year, with an already record breaking amount of 'Cupsets' in the book.

How to watch APIA Leichhardt v Melbourne Victory: Live stream, kick-off time for Australia Cup quarter-final

APIA Leichhardt will look to recreate one of the most famous upsets in Australia Cup history when they host Melbourne Victory in a blockbuster quarter-final at Leichhardt Oval on Wednesday night.

The NPL NSW giants have reached the last eight by defeating Peninsula Power 2-1 in the Round of 32 before overcoming Sydney United 58 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the Round of 16.

Their reward is a meeting with A-League powerhouse Melbourne Victory and, for APIA supporters, a chance to revisit some very happy memories.

The two clubs famously met at the same venue in the 2018 competition, when APIA stunned the reigning A-League champions with a 3-2 victory in one of the competition’s great Cupsets.

Niu Lai: Movie that went viral for terrible animation becomes China box office hit

Niu Lai, a low-budget animation film about a cow in a dream sequence has seen a huge jump in ticket sales after going viral for its confusing plot and terrible graphics.

It grossed just 7,705 yuan ($1,140; £843) in the first 10 days after its release, but has now made more than 11.4 million yuan, according to movie tracking site Mao Yan. That means it is holding ground against Hollywood blockbusters like The Odyssey and Spider Man: Brand New Day.

"You may regret for 80 minutes if you watch it, but if you don't, you'll regret it for life," one popular social media post about the film said.

‘Bad in every aspect’: derided low-tech animation Niu Lai rivals blockbusters at Chinese box office

Commentary about the ‘so bad it’s good’ qualities of mother and son’s movie has driven people to see it at cinema

A crude, low-tech animation about a cow and a skylark has become a sleeper hit at China’s box office, sitting alongside blockbusters such as The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinema revenue rankings.

Niu Lai, which translates to The Cow is Coming, is an 86-minute budget animation about a newborn calf and a skylark whose relationship develops over the course of an abstract dream sequence.

Released on 5 August, the film reportedly made just 7,700 yuan (£842) in its first 10 days of screenings, with fewer than 300 people nationwide buying a ticket. It did not have any promotional tour, pre-release publicity or even a trailer.

Man-Made River Authority Restores Water Flow After Power Outage

The Man-Made River Authority (MMR) announced today the resumption of water flow through the Hasawna-Jafara Plain system and its arrival at the Garabulli Reservoir, following the shutdown of the system's stations due to the nationwide power outage.

The MMR explained that the water is currently flowing towards the Sayeh reservoir, which supplies the capital, Tripoli, and is expected to arrive this evening.

The nationwide power outage had caused all stations in the system to go offline, starting with the Hasawna well fields, then the Tarhuna pumping station, and the two Rabta pumping stations, resulting in a drop in water levels and a halt to pumping.

Nationwide Power Blackout Hits Libya as Plants Shut Down

A widespread power outage hit western, central and southern Libya early Monday after several major electricity generation plants went offline, according to local media and sources.

The Zawiya and Khoms power plants in western Libya, along with the Ubari gas-fired plant in the south, were shut down simultaneously. The reasons for the outages remained unclear.

The General Electricity Company of Libya said its technical teams were assessing the situation and working to gradually restore electricity following the nationwide blackout.

The disruption also affected Libya’s water supply. The Man-Made River Authority said several wells and pumping systems had stopped operating due to repeated power cuts and the collapse of the national electricity grid, warning that water supplies to major cities would be affected.

Dog food recalled in UK after reports of pets losing their sight

Move by Years, which provides personalised meals in subscription-based service, follows recipe change

A dog food brand has recalled all of its fresh meals after reports that a recipe change may have caused some animals to develop an eye condition that, if left untreated, can lead to sight loss.

The brand Years said owners should stop feeding its fresh meals to their dogs “immediately” and also told them not to feed them to any other animal, or to donate or sell them.

In response to reports from some owners of pets not responding to treatment and in some cases losing their sight, Years told the Guardian: “The picture is mixed. Some [ophthalmologists] report dogs responding well to treatment … others have seen limited or slower responses.”

Dog food brand recall after reports of suspected eye issues in pets

A luxury dog food brand has issued a recall after receiving dozens of reports of suspected eye issues in pets.

Years, a premium subscription service offering fresh dog food "tailored" to an animal's needs, emailed customers on Monday night to say it had identified a "potential link" between its buckwheat ingredient and a dry eye condition.

The company, which boasts that its fresh meals are cooked by chefs, urged customers to stop feeding Years' products their pets or any other animal.

Years said that as of Sunday, it had received reports of 57 suspected cases of dry eye.

The company said on its website: "This follows a small number of reports of dogs having a potential adverse eye reaction to buckwheat, a common and approved ingredient, which we include in our meals. As of 16th August, this has affected 0.1% of our customers."

Years recalls fresh meals over buckwheat fears

Fresh pet food supplier Years has recalled all of its fresh meals (excluding the Chef’s Collection range) over fears that contaminated buckwheat may be causing eye irritation in dogs.

As of 9pm yesterday (August 18), 192 customers have reported potential, although as yet unverified, eye issues to the company, with symptoms including excessive blinking or squinting; continuous pawing at the eyes; thick discharge; and general discomfort around the eyes.

An initial review by Years has identified buckwheat as a potential contributing factor, and the company is investigating possible contamination within its buckwheat supply chain. All confirmed cases have emerged after buckwheat was introduced into the recipe, with zero confirmed cases prior to that change, the company reports. Laboratory testing is underway, with data covering symptoms, diet and environmental factors across confirmed cases checked by an independent ophthalmologist.

Zuckerberg lied about concern for child safety, Meta whistleblower testifies at landmark trial

Arturo Béjar, former Meta safety engineer, tells jury tech company was aware of products’ potential harm to children

Meta has taken a “don’t ask, don’t tell” strategy when it comes to the safety of children on its social media platforms, according to a whistleblower who testified during a landmark trial against the company on Tuesday. He is slated to continue his testimony on Wednesday.

Arturo Béjar, a former Meta safety engineer, told the jury that the company was aware of the harm its products caused children, which included its recommendations pushing content from sexual predators and violent and graphic images. He said he repeatedly raised the issue to various Facebook and Instagram executives but that they did little to resolve it.

Why Are 29 US States Taking Meta To Court? – Behind The News

META COURTWell, Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook is being taken to court by 29 US states. Whether it's endless reels, constant notifications, autoplay videos, or an algorithm you've built brick by brick, experts are saying that lots of kids around the world are finding themselves glued to Facebook and Instagram, and over in the US, parents aren't very happy about it. So much so that 29 US states, led by New Jersey, California, Kentucky, and Colorado, are going head to head with Meta in California's Federal Court, alleging the company deliberately designed its platforms to hook young people and wasn't up-front about the risks. But Meta disagrees. The company's lawyer says that while some people can have problems with how much they use social media, that doesn't necessarily mean they're addicted to it, and a spokesperson for the company stood by its efforts to create stronger protections for teens. If the judge finds Meta guilty, it may have to make some changes to its platforms. And it could be forced to cough up $282 billion AUD! But with the trial expected to last around six weeks, we've got a bit of waiting to do before we know the outcome.

A20 Pro speed and efficiency improvements leaked? Not so fast…

You may have seen several news stories out there referencing this Fixed Focus Digital rumor on Weibo, claiming that it shows the speed and power efficiency improvements of Apple’s A20 chip coming to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra next month.

It’s important to note what is going on here, because this is not a leak about A20 improvements; it’s about the new manufacturing process from TSMC that the A20 is suspected of using. And even then, it’s not saying what most reports think it’s saying.

Yes, Apple is expected to be the first large-scale customer to use TSMC’s new 2nm process that uses a new “gate all-around” or GAA manufacturing technique. We said as much in our A20 preview earlier this year.

Bitcoin whale accumulation is strengthening as a 2,782 BTC (~$177M) withdrawal from Bitstamp joined broader buying: wallets holding >100 BTC added about 54,400 BTC between June 14 and Aug 14 while the top >10,000 BTC cohort netted ~46,420 BTC on a 60-day basis and smaller wallets sold ~27,400 BTC, pushing CEX exchange reserves toward roughly 2.72 million BTC. Trading volume has plunged year-over-year (Binance July volume fell from $2.55T to $1.4T, OKX from $1.055T to $447B), BTC trades in the low-to-mid $60,000s with SOPR below 1, and although accumulation has yet to trigger a breakout above $62k-$65k the sustained whale buying and depressed exchange liquidity could tighten supply and serve as a bullish catalyst if spot demand returns.

Pakistan were just starting to build a partnership but this delay means the batters will have to go back out and get settled again.

With Pakistan at a low ebb and England at the start of semi-reset, the series at Headingly looks to be an interesting one

The history of Test cricket between England and Pakistan stretches back to 1954 and has been a vibrant one over the years. Yet, for all the memorable battles, plus the cultural ties between the two countries and a fair bit of scandal along the way, a trophy that denotes the rivalry is still to be created.

England lost the Crowe-Thorpe trophy to New Zealand this summer, will look to retain the Basil D’Oliveira trophy in South Africa this winter, and hope they can win back the Ashes next year. Trophies for encounters with India and West Indies go back so far they have been retired and replaced by new ones in recent times.
