Bagel Hijikata: Will the scenario of their last meeting be repeated?

Alexander Bublik and Rinki Hijikata will meet in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters on March 9. It turned out to be a difficult start for Bublik – he had to recoup after missing the first game. In the upcoming match, he will play against Hijikata. Last spring, Alexander already lost a set to the Australian. How will their new face-to-face meeting turn out? – the bets for this match are in our betting tip

Bublik made an impressive comeback in the second round match of Indian Wells against Vitus Kopriva. The 28-year-old representative of Kazakhstan lost in the first set, won the second game in a tiebreak and completely suppressed the Czech's resistance in the decisive segment of the match (3-6, 7-6, 6-2). It should be noted that earlier in his career, Alexander had never reached the third round on the local courts.

Rinky Hijikata vs. Alexander Bublik: what Indian Wells previews reveal

As the 2026 BNP Paribas Open moves into second-round matchups at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, headlines have placed rinky hijikata on the opposite side of Alexander Bublik, while a detailed preview focuses on Bublik’s second-round meeting with Vit Kopriva. Set side by side, the two angles answer a narrow but useful question: what can be stated firmly from the available preview details, and what is only implied by rankings- and narrative-driven framing?

The most concrete information in the available context centers on Alexander Bublik meeting Vit Kopriva in the second round of the 2026 BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, USA. The preview text also lays out how the match can be followed in two markets: in the UK on Sky Sports Tennis and Sky Go, and in the USA on Tennis Channel.

76ers discuss challenge of facing Cavs' James Harden, Donovan Mitchell

CLEVELAND — When the Philadelphia 76ers face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, they will be looking to get back on the right path following a loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. The Sixers need a win in the worst way as they are now the No. 8 seed in the East as they have fallen into the play-in tournament.

The challenge will be tall. The Sixers will be without Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George as well as possibly VJ Edgecombe who is dealing with a lumbar contusion. Without those three–possibly four–the challenge will already be tough. Throw in the fact that the Cavs now have a dynamic backcourt of James Harden and Donovan Mitchell, and the task gets tougher.

Channel Seven star hits Bailey Smith with a blistering blast: 'He's gutless and he makes horrible comments about women'

Footy journalist Caroline Wilson has once again hit out at both Bailey Smith and the Geelong Football Club in the wake of the side's Mad Monday scandal last year.

In a scathing address, the Channel Seven star branded Smith 'gutless' and claimed that he 'makes horrible comments about women'.

It is not the first time that the respected reporter has blasted Smith and Geelong for their controversial post-season antics, which saw the Cats midfielder mock Wilson with a post on Instagram last year.

Smith, aged 25, had posed for a photograph with teammate Max Holmes during the team's fancy-dress Mad Monday party, with Holmes dressed as Wilson.

The Geelong Cats footy star has come under fire from sports reporter Caroline Wilson following his pointed dig at her during the team's controversial Mad Monday celebrations last year.

Caroline Wilson has unleashed on Bailey Smith five months after his offensive social media post during the AFL Mad Monday celebrations.

The Geelong Cats star player set tongues wagging in October last year after sharing an Instagram post poking fun at the sports journalist.

Smith's teammate Max Holmes, who was dressed as Seven's AFL reporter as part of the Cats' Mad Monday dress-up party, posed for a picture alongside the 25-year-old midfielder, who was dressed as Legends of the Fall's Tristan Ludlow.

WA regional petrol stations begin rationing fuel as Iran war hits home

Some service stations are closing some of their pumps. (ABC Midwest & Wheatbelt: Chris Lewis)

Some WA towns have begun restricting fuel sales to emergency service authorities only, closing petrol pumps to motorists.

It comes as fuel wholesalers ration their stock in response to the Iran war.

Federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen said panic buying, not supply issues was contributing to shortages.

Towns in regional WA have begun rationing fuel, selling it for emergency purposes only as the war in the Middle East begins to impact the state.

Drivers in at least two small towns are now barred from buying fuel, with supply reserved for emergency and essential services only.

Tributes paid as grime star Dot Rotten dies, aged 37

Tributes have been paid to grime pioneer Dot Rotten, who has died at the age of 37.

The musician's death was confirmed to the BBC via his family. There were no details of the circumstances, although online reports suggested he had died in Gambia.

Born Joseph Ellis in Stockwell, London, he developed a distinctive sound that mixed hard-edged beats with emotional hooks; and worked with everyone from Chip and D Double E to Cher Lloyd and Ed Sheeran.

He scored a Top 20 hit in 2012 with the melancholy single Overload. The rapper said the song's lyrics were inspired by his experiences with "a major depression".

The beginner’s guide to the 2026 Formula 1 regulations

This is a season of change in F1. What are the important rules and regulations on which to keep an eye?

New Formula 1 season, new Formula 1 rules. This time of year in F1-land is always a little bewildering.

A field of brand-new cars emerges, there are a set of new regulations and some all-new jargon to go with it. It’s doubly tricky this year, with a full-on, ground-up reboot of the Championship featuring new engines, new aerodynamics and different ways of putting together a racing lap.

If you’re new to the sport – or even if you’re not – fear not, we’ve got you covered.

One reason to root for all 22 drivers on the 2026 F1 grid

My team is better than yours! Your favorite driver is chopped and will never win the big one!

Sports discourse can be toxic. Apparently you're no longer allowed to simply enjoy a race; you must declare allegiance, pick a side, and defend it to the death.

Formula 1 is full of colorful teams and drivers worthy of your support in 2026, though, so here's one reason to root for every single one of them this year.

Zak Brown has rebuilt McLaren in his own image: bold, ambitious and with a love of close, fair racing. The reigning constructors' champion has a clear identity, and in 2025 it proved it would stick to it. Love Papaya rules or loathe them, McLaren refused to blink, even when it risked costing the team everything. In a sport as cutthroat as F1, that conviction feels refreshingly bold.

F1 season predictions: Our picks for 2026’s title race, surprises and one ‘dumpster fire’

Illustration: Dan Goldfarb / The Athletic; Sona Maleterova, Ahmad AlShehab / Getty Images

That’s not a cliché — in 2026, it’s literally true of Formula 1. The cars are new, the engines are new, the rules are new, and the pecking order that Lando Norris mastered last season may already be obsolete.

A season of unknowns embarks this weekend, March 8, at the Australian Grand Prix. Our writers have staked out their predictions for the season below.

Luke Smith: Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren. Preseason testing did little to shake the thinking that Mercedes could be the team to beat this year, even with Ferrari’s eye-catching times. It’s going to be close between the leading four teams, and they’ll all win races — but Mercedes will come out on top.
