UFC 326: Why the ceremonial BMF title has suddenly become a coveted commodity in UFC

The creation of the BMF title introduced a chaotic element into the world of UFC. Originally created as a one-off ceremonial title to crown the "baddest motherf—er" in the game when Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal met at UFC 244, the title is now regularly defended, including a bout between current champ Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 326 on Saturday.

Saturday marks just the fourth BMF fight in promotional history. It began in 2019 when Diaz took on Masvidal for the inaugural belt where Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson was on hand to place the title around the winner's waist. It was not until four years later in 2023 when the title reappeared for a matchup between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier at UFC 291, where Gaethje scored a brutal knockout win. The title was then "defended" by Gaethje against Holloway at UFC 300.

Pierre Gasly: “I think we are all disappointed by the end result today and we certainly expected much more. It has been a challenging weekend so far with limited running at times and the car has not felt as good as it did in pre-season testing so it is important for us to understand why that is and find some improvements quickly. In terms of my laps in Qualifying, I felt like I was on the limit and I was pleased with my speed and application on each push lap. Of course, we are managing some big changes this year with tyre preparation and energy management and there are still so many things we need to learn. It is not the way we wanted to begin the year and there are more cars in front of us than we would like. We have the race tomorrow, which does have a lot of uncertainties going into it. We know the start will be important and I am focused on doing everything I can tomorrow to improve today’s result and see what we can come away with.”

Alpine has announced the re-signing of significant Franco Colapinto-linked sponsor Mercado Libre on the eve of the F1 season getting underway with the Australian Grand Prix.

Confirmed ahead of practice Friday in Melbourne, the online marketplace will continue supporting the Argentine driver, as it has for much of his motorsport career.

FIA Formula 3: Hello and welcome back to Melbourne, where it's time for our FIA Formula 3 Sprint Race press conference with the top three finishers. In third place, we have Brando Badoer for Rodin Motorsport, in second Enzo Deligny for Van Amersfoort Racing and in first place Bruno Del Pino also for VAR. Bruno, this is a nice way to start the season, even if we had fewer laps than planned. Talk us through your race, as you looked to have it all under control.

Bruno Del Pino: Yeah, so the start was pretty clean, no issues there. I managed to create a gap quite quickly compared to the guys in the back and then from there it was quite an easy race towards the safety car, just trying to put on the pace, trying to save tyres as well and then I saw that there was no DRS available. Even so I tried to create the gap to get far away from the DRS even though there was none, so it was also a bit easier for me than the rest of the drivers. But I think before the safety car, it was all under control. I felt that I could have continued like that. It was a pity that the racing ended early, of course, the health of the other drivers is more important, but it's a nice way to start the season, even though it's half the points. But looking for the momentum towards tomorrow.

UFC 326 full fight: Caio Borralho sleeps Paul Craig with nasty hook

Caio Borralho's rise to title contention was accompanied with a nasty finish of veteran Paul Craig.

Back at UFC 301 in May 2024, Borralho showed he's more than a skilled grappler by putting the lights out on Craig. After landing some solid shots on the feet in Round 1, Borralho entered Round 2 with plenty of confidence in his hands. In a sequence, he rushed Craig and dropped him with a brutal left hook. It was an impressive finish that got the Brazilian a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

Borralho (17-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) returns to the cage this Saturday in the co-main event of UFC 326 (Paramount+, CBS) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He takes on Reinier de Ridder (21-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) in a five-round middleweight matchup.
