Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa won the toss and asked South Africa to bat in their World Cup opener in Ahmedabad.

South Africa have opted for a pace-heavy attack. Keshav Maharaj slots in as their only spinner, alongside the speedy quartet of Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. Tristan Stubbs also begins the tournament at the No. 6 spot – a position Jason Smith had occupied in their last T20I, while Stubbs had slid down to No. 7. LIVIGNO — Czech snowboarder Zuzana Maderova won gold in the women's parallel giant slalom at Milan-Cortina 2026 on Sunday.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a comfortable win over Sabine Payer of Austria, cruising to victory by 0.83 seconds. Italy's Lucia Dalmasso took bronze after winning the small final over teammate Elisa Caffont by 0.11 seconds.

In 2023, Hulu quietly released The Artful Dodger over the holiday season. The series presented itself as an inventive twist on Charles Dickens’ Victorian masterpiece, Oliver Twist. Tennis star Coco Gauff tops the list, earning an estimated $33 million, followed by her peers Aryna Sabalenka ($30m) and Iga Swiatek ($25.1m) but then appears Eileen Gu. The leading trio are household sporting names, freestyle skier Gu is not, but her earnings? $23.1m.

Every year since the 22-year-old won two gold medals and silver at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in the big air, halfpipe and slopestyle — making her the youngest Olympic champion in freestyle skiing aged 18 — she has ranked in the top five highest-paid female athletes.

Olympic committee: New transgender policy consensus reached across sports

A proposed new consensus between sports leaders across the globe about gender policy would be a first uniform criteria.

Global sports leaders ‌have reached consensus on a new set of eligibility criteria for transgender athletes, with the new policy expected to be announced within the first half of this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Saturday.

It would be the first uniform policy adopted by the IOC and international sports federations, applying to major events in dozens of sports, including the Games and world championships. Currently, federations have ⁠their own rules, which can vary.

Details of the new policy are unclear, but it is expected to severely restrict the participation of transgender athletes who compete in women’s categories if they have undergone full male puberty before any subsequent medical transition.

This year marks the 90-year anniversary of Jesse Owens’ remarkable feats of athleticism at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany.

Not only did Owens defeat the world’s best track athletes – resulting in four Olympic gold medals for the Ohio State University student – but in many ways his victory challenged white nationalism and the racist ideologies that Germany's Adolf Hitler used to build his Nazi regime, as well as the systemic racism plaguing 1930s America.

After Owens’ passing in March 1980, Ohio State sought to celebrate the alumni’s accomplishments. The south and north recreation centers were named after Owens.

But Ohio State had much bigger plans as well, commissioning a large commemorative sculpture as the focal point of the to-be-named Jesse Owens Memorial Plaza at the northern end of Ohio Stadium.
