Arsenal agree to sign Villa defender Konsa: reports

London (AFP) – Arsenal have agreed to sign England defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa in a deal worth at least £50 million ($68 million), according to reports on Wednesday.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been chasing a centre-back since the end of last season and appears set to land Konsa after returning with an improved offer.

The Premier League champions reportedly had a bid for Konsa rejected earlier in the transfer window and briefly switched their attention to Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah.

Having renewed their interest in Konsa, Arsenal are on the brink of sealing a deal for the 28-year-old.

Konsa, who featured for England at the recent World Cup, will have a medical before completing his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Ezri Konsa is on the verge of swapping Aston Villa for Arsenal, The Athletic reported on Wednesday afternoon. The reigning champions of England want to bolster their defence with William Saliba and Jurriën Timber still injured.

Aston Villa's asking price still sits above what Arsenal are willing to pay, although the gap is expected to close in the coming days.

Transfermarkt values the 28-year-old defender at €45 million and he is under contract in Birmingham until mid-2028.

Dortmund team news vs Arsenal: Anton, Ryerson and Kobel to miss; Prates in line for debut

Borussia Dortmund continue their preseason campaign against Premier League champions Arsenal at the Emirates in London tomorrow as the Bundesliga giants indulge in their fifth friendly game of the summer.

Niko Kovac's side returned from Japan last weekend after beating FC Tokyo 1-0 as Fabio Silva's second-half strike brought them back to winning ways after two consecutive losses and will be looking to build on it tomorrow with another scalp.

According to latest reports, Waldemar Anton, Gregor Kobel and Julian Ryerson will miss the clash to Arsenal tomorrow. Anton, who featured in their last game against Tokyo, is confirmed to be absent from the Emirates Cup encounter on Sunday due to training management.

Arsenal's pursuit of Vinicius Jr feels like a transfer pipe dream – but are Real Madrid forcing Brazilian superstar out with €120m Yan Diomande move?

Arsenal are weighing up what would be one of the most sensational transfers of all time, but the odds are stacked against them in their bid to pull it off. Over the weekend, it emerged that the Gunners are considering an approach for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior, while Los Blancos were, in turn, intensifying their efforts to land RB Leipzig's €120 million-plus-rated breakout talent, Yan Diomande.

Predictably, questions are being asked of where Diomande will fit in at Madrid, and the timing has certainly aroused suspicion that Real are looking to replace Vinicius as the Premier League champions explore a deal for the Brazilian, who is still yet to agree a new contract at the Bernabeu.

Football transfer rumours: Guimarães set for Arsenal? Newcastle to bring in Froholdt?

Eddie Howe presumably won’t be reading this page for a while. Perhaps the now departed Newcastle boss will be seeking some beach time, looking out to sea and mentally preparing his audition for the England job while his assistant Jason Tindall works on trying to be as quick over the first few yards as Anthony Barry.

The Magpies fly out to La Manga on Friday for a pre-season training camp and it remains to be seen if Bruno Guimarães, a £75m Arsenal target, will turn up to the airport, meet them in Spain or send the lads a farewell on social media while house-hunting in London. Very latest reports suggest a deal to the champions has “moved closer” following Howe’s exit.

The biggest loser from Arsenal signing Bruno Guimaraes is not Martin Zubimendi

Bruno Guimaraes is very, very close to joining Arsenal from Newcastle United, according to recent reports.

All there is left, according to the latest from L'Equipe, is the agents fee, bonuses, and other small fees. The general agreement, in principle, is finalised between the two parties.

In a transfer that was not at all expected at the start of the saga, it now revolves around the notion that Arsenal have one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League in their ranks.

Martin Zubimendi was signed from Real Sociedad last summer, but it was quickly made clear to Mikel Arteta that in some games, Zubimendi was just not performing consistently well, and for them to take the leap, their midfield had to be a bit stronger. However, the player who is losing out the most after this signing is definitely not Zubimendi.

Arsenal sign Greece forward Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m

‘It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club’

Arsenal have completed the £34m signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. The Greece international, 24, has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions and arrives as a replacement for Leandro Trossard following the Belgian’s switch to Besiktas.

Tzolis’s move to the Emirates Stadium – Arsenal’s third permanent transfer of the summer – arrives 48 hours after the north Londoners missed out on Morgan Rogers who signed a £117m British-record fee with Chelsea, describing his new employers as the “biggest club in London”.

Tzolis scored 43 times in 108 appearances for Club Brugge, and lined up in the Belgians’ 3-0 Champions League defeat by Mikel Arteta’s side in December. “I need some time to realise it, I think,” Tzolis said. “It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club, the champions of ‌England. I’m very ‌proud to be part of this team for ‌the next season.”

Tzolis, Camera, Action! New boy ready to hit the ground running

Christos Tzolis has revealed he cut short his summer holiday to ensure he was ready for a move to Arsenal after learning the club were interested in signing him.

Fresh from helping Club Brugge secure their 20th league title, the Greece international allowed himself a well-earned break, but not for long. Aware that a move to north London was gathering pace, he kept up his fitness work throughout the summer so he would be ready to hit the ground running if the transfer went through.

That move, reportedly worth €40 million, was confirmed today, with the 24-year-old now focused on settling quickly and making an immediate impact at the Emirates.

Leandro Trossard set for Arsenal exit as €20m deal struck agreed

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Besiktas for the sale of Leandro Trossard. The Belgian international, who has been a key player under Mikel Arteta, is now poised to end his successful stint at the Emirates for a new challenge in Turkey.

According to The Athletic, the Turkish giants have made a significant breakthrough in negotiations with Arsenal, reaching a fee of €20 million for the 31-year-old forward. The structured deal includes a guaranteed €18m upfront with a further €2m in performance-related add-ons. While the clubs have found common ground, the transfer is not yet fully completed as final details regarding personal terms and wages, expected to be in the region of €9m, continue to be hammered out.

Four Players Who Could Follow Leandro Trossard Out of Arsenal

For the first time in 22 long years, Arsenal have entered the summer transfer window as the Premier League champions.

After three consecutive second-place finishes, there was a sense that Mikel Arteta’s project would never ascend beyond the threshold of ’almost.’ However, the Gunners finally got over the line in 2025–26, and now Arteta is seeking to evolve.

Stagnation and decline are ever so easy to drift into at the highest level, although Liverpool proved last year that chucking a record-breaking sum on shiny new toys doesn’t guarantee the desired evolution off the back of tremendous success.

Arsenal are in a strong position financially and are reportedly plotting ambitious moves for the likes of Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola. The club will also seek to freshen things up by not merely handing Arteta new tools but parting ways with stalwarts when the time is right.

Arsenal interested in 17yo Mexico starter

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf report that Arsenal are one of many Premier League big-six clubs with an interest in Gilberto Mora, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool also in the race.

The report adds that Mora is said to want to wait until he turns 18 before making a move to Europe, but that’s unlikely to be an issue.

As a Mexican national, Mora wouldn’t be able to sign for a Premier League club until he turned 18 anyway. So, if anything, Mora’s desire to wait for a transfer makes it more likely he’ll end up in England.

Lewis Steele confirms Liverpool’s interest in midfielder with £20m release clause

Liverpool recruit aggressively at the elite end and opportunistically at the youth end. Gilberto Mora looks like the sort of case that can sit in both categories. According to the original report by Lewis Steele, the 17-year-old Mexico attacker is firmly on the radar, and the number that matters most is simple, £20m.

That figure changes the conversation. For an established senior player, £20m can buy depth. For a teenager already producing in Liga MX and showing composure on the World Cup stage, it becomes a strategic bet. Liverpool have made a habit of identifying elite young talent before the price turns irrational. Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni fit that model. Mora would be a bigger swing, but the logic is familiar.

Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie sent off at World Cup for covering mouth in situation of confrontation

The Ecuador defender was dismissed in stoppage time in the round-of-32 game against Mexico at Azteca Stadium. Fox Sports

Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie received a straight red card for speaking while covering his mouth in a situation of confrontation in Ecuador’s World Cup round-of-32 game against Mexico on Tuesday.

Hincapie, 24, became the second player to get sent off for the offence, after Miguel Almiron infamously made history for doing so in Paraguay’s group-stage win over Turkey.

The incident happened in second-half added time, with Ecuador 2-0 down. Hincapie went up to Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez and spoke to the AC Milan player with his hand over his mouth.

Ecuador player gets red card for covering mouth in World Cup game vs Mexico

Ecuador defender Piero Hincapié has become the second player to be given a red card at the 2026 World Cup for covering his mouth while confronting an opponent.

With his side down 2-0, Hincapié covered his mouth when squaring up to Mexico's Santiago Giménez in second-half stoppage time of their World Cup round of 32 clash.

Giménez alerted referee Slavko Vinčić, who went to the monitor and produced a red card after a quick review.

Mexico won the match 2-0, advancing to the round of 16 where it will face either England or DR Congo.

This World Cup is the first to feature red cards for players who cover their mouths during confrontations.

Max Dowman Makes More Premier League History As Arsenal Clinch Title

Arsenal prodigy Max Dowman will wrap a historic season by breaking yet another age-related record, becoming the youngest player to win a Premier League title.

When Dowman receives his Premier League winners’ medal after the final whistle of Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace, the day Arsenal will lift the trophy as English soccer champions for the first time in 22 years, the teenage winger will be 16 years and 144 days old.

That shatters the previous as the youngest champion, set by Phil Foden when he was a fringe part of Manchester City’s 2017–18 title-winning team, by more than a year.

Foden was less than three weeks away from turning 18 at that time, whereas Dowman only turned 16 five months ago.

Will Max Dowman get a Premier League winner’s medal?

The Guinness World Records have confirmed that Max Dowman has achieved a new record as the youngest football player to win the Premier League. The midfielder will be 16 years and 144 days at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Dowman is already guaranteed to receive a winner’s medal, as Premier League guidelines mandate that every player to make five or more appearances must receive one of the 40 medals on offer.

Dowman has made exactly five so far, though he may now find himself earning a sixth at the weekend given the pressure is off against Crystal Palace.

The teenager wasn’t just there for the ride either, winning a penalty for a goal against Leeds United in August, and scoring a memorable goal against Everton in March.
