Aussie customer's shocking find after walking into JB Hi-Fi: 'Completely and utterly gutted'

JB Hi-Fi customer Dave Lee walked into his local store, only to find the physical media section "completely and utterly gutted".

Lee, a film historian, physical media advocate and collector, visited the JB Hi-Fi store in Westfield Doncaster – one of the major Melbourne stores – only to find shelves of DVDs and 4K Blu-Rays being emptied, with caution tape surrounding the now bare aisles.

In a video which has now gone viral, the content creator commiserated about the "sight that all physical media advocates absolutely dread."

Lee, who owns a collection of over 12,000 films and series, says he's spent a lot of time and money at the Aussie home entertainment retailer over the years.

JB Hi-Fi Responds To Speculation Around Removal Of Physical Media

“We have and will continue to support Australian consumers with physical content on movies and music in stores and online.”

JB Hi-Fi have responded to viral claims that the stores are axing their stock of physical media in an increasingly-digital age.

Earlier this week, YouTuber and filmmaker Dave Lee Down Under shared a video on his social media account which showed him visiting a Victorian JB Hi-Fi with a cordoned-off aisle and an empty shelf which once held 4K Blu-Rays.

Describing it as the day that “all physical media advocates absolutely dread”, Lee also showed a notice on the shelves which advertised a "new look, [and a] new space" which advised, "sadly CDs, vinyls & DVDs are leaving our store".

Aussie boxing champ Jai Opetaia breaks silence over 'unfair' stripped title, says unification dream still alive

Aussie boxing superstar Jai Opetaia has finally opened up on being stripped of his IBF world title, and vowed to continue chasing unification despite being blacklisted by at least one of the sport's global bodies.

The 30-year-old Gold Coast cruiserweight took the IBF strap from Mairis Briedis with a stunning victory in front of a home crowd on Queensland's glitter strip in July 2022, famously fighting through a shattered jaw to defeat the Latvian monster.

Opetaia, who boasts an undefeated 30-fight record, successfully defended the strap six times and also added The Ring's cruiserweight title to his collection along the way.

Aussie 'scapegoat' who was axed over controversial F1 2021 season finale vindicated

Aussie former F1 race director Michael Masi was used as a "scapegoat" following the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, according to his successor Neils Wittich.

Masi was at the centre of one of the most controversial moments in the sport's history that eventually allowed Max Verstappen to claim his maiden world championship with a last-lap pass on Lewis Hamilton.

Masi allowed a handful, but not all lapped cars to pass the safety car, before ordering it into the pits to allow a one-lap dash at the end of the race to decide the title.

Rare Abu Dhabi 2021 defence made for ‘scapegoat’ Michael Masi

Michael Masi's handling of the controversial, title-deciding 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been defended.

Former F1 race director Niels Wittich has defended his predecessor Michael Masi’s officiating in the highly-controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Masi served as F1’s race director at the FIA but was dismissed following the controversy surrounding the title-deciding 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Masi’s handling of a late safety car period had a direct impact on the outcome of that year’s world championship and was hugely criticised.

The Australian’s failure to apply the regulations correctly led to Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton when the race was restarted for one final lap. Red Bull’s Verstappen snatched victory and claimed his maiden world championship in the process, denying Mercedes’ Hamilton a record eighth drivers’ crown.

Landlords 'held to ransom by renters' in Aussie state leads to calls for change

Aussie father of two Dan Yeats thought buying an investment property would help set him up for retirement. But purchasing an interstate home through his self-managed superannuation fund turned into a months-long nightmare and a very expensive lesson.

When his tenants stopped paying rent and refused to vacate they managed to stay in the property by delaying tribunal hearings and taking advantage of Victoria's tenancy laws which have increasingly emphasised the rights of renters. And when he finally got his hands back on the property late last year, he was left with a massive and ugly clean up job.

"I never in my life dreamed that they could get to this point," he told Yahoo Finance.

‘Unacceptable odour’: SEMAWP waste station refused

A waste-to-energy project across nine councils – including Casey – is teetering after a waste-transfer station (WTS) in Hampton Park was rejected by VCAT.

The WTS’s operator Veolia Recycling & Recovery had appealed to VCAT after the Environment Protection Authority Victoria refused a development licence last year.

On 10 April, VCAT member Nick Wimbush upheld the EPA refusal, largely because of the potential odour impacts on nearby residents.

The WTS was planned to collect up to 550,000 tonnes of waste a year from nine municipalities, as part of the South East Metropolitan Advanced Waste Processing consortium project.

The waste would then be compressed and bulk-delivered to a waste-to-energy (WTE) incinerator in Maryvale.

ATP Monte Carlo Day 3 Predictions: Popyrin vs Ruud and de Minaur vs Norrie

The clay court season continues and the Monte Carlo Masters presents two decent second-round matchups today, April 7, 2026. These are short previews and our betting predictions for Alex de Minaur vs. Cameron Norrie and Alexei Popyrin vs. Casper Ruud.

Two real grinders on the tour. While both players are traditionally more comfortable on faster surfaces, they have both significantly improved their clay-court perfomances over the last seasons.

Cameron Norrie comes into this match with a good confidence boost, having defeated De Minaur just last month at Indian Wells in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). De Minaur, however, is the higher-seeded player and has been more consistent across the 2026 season, including a title win in Rotterdam.

Long weekend chaos highlights reality of fuel crisis as Aussies turn to electric cars

Australian drivers determined to beat the rising costs of fuel have instead encountered another problem — increasingly long queues for electric vehicle chargers.

On regional routes busy with travellers over the Easter long weekend, lines formed outside charging stations as drivers waited to recharge midway to their destination.

One motorist on her way from Victoria to the beachside town of Eden on the NSW south coast found herself waiting “for hours” at the Cann River Tesla Supercharger.

'There's a chance of a recession,' warns Westpac boss

Anthony Miller thinks a recession could be on the way. (Supplied: Westpac)

The chief executive of Westpac has warned of the growing risk a recession could be on the horizon for Australia, given growing inflationary pressures and geopolitical tensions.

In an exclusive sit-down interview with the ABC's Alan Kohler for the second episode of his That's Business podcast, Westpac CEO Anthony Miller said "circumstances have changed" and Australia needs to be prepared.

"I think there's a chance of a recession. I think we need to acknowledge that," he said.

"It's much more complicated today because of events in the Middle East over the last few months than it would otherwise have been, so I think it puts more pressure on how [the Reserve Bank] can get us through this environment."

The bond market offers cheap bets the RBA will fail on inflation

The market’s prognosis on inflation in Australia is pretty grim, at least over the next 12 months.

Energy prices are rising from the Iran war, and living costs are crushing households who are bearing the brunt of higher interest rates. But beneath the headlines, an “interesting picture” is emerging, according to Westpac.

Members of the sale site will no longer enjoy its unmatched limited time deals.

Online sales platform Click Frenzy has suddenly collapsed and entered liquidation.

The well-known discount hub was launched back in 2012 to capitalise off American style sales events like Cyber Monday.

It operated by offering scores of exclusive sales at a time from major brands that were unavailable elsewhere, with huge markdowns.

The announcement of its liquidation came from an ASIC notice, which said the company will begin winding up. The decision comes after a meeting of general members of the company on March 30.

Click Frenzy, Power Retail in liquidation as global conflict hits travel sales

Online deals website Click Frenzy and media outlet Power Retail have fallen into liquidation, with its receiver pursuing an urgent sales campaign for both businesses and their assets.

Documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) show directors for Click Frenzy and Power Retail, both part of the Global Marketplace business group, on Monday resolved the companies be wound up.

Frank Lo Pilato and Adam Cormack of RSM Australia Partners were jointly appointed as administrators for both businesses, before a secured creditor tapped Chris Johnson and Andrew McCabe of Wexted Advisors as receiver.

In a statement, Wexted Advisors said the businesses report a combined annual revenue of approximately $7 million.
