ICC U19 World Cup Warm-up Matches 2026: Schedule & Teams

The ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026 is almost here. Before things get serious, 16 teams will hit the field for warm-up matches, just to shake off the nerves and get a feel for the conditions. These games run from January 9 to 14, scattered across Zimbabwe and Namibia.

This year marks the 16th time the U19 World Cup takes place. Australia holds the trophy after their 2024 win over India. The real action gets underway on January 15, with the final set for February 6, 2026.

Warm-up games matter a lot for young cricketers. They give players a chance to get a feel for the pitch and see what they’re up against. Teams can try out different game plans before things get serious. It’s not just about strategy, either—kids get used to new time zones and weather, which is enormous when you’re traveling for the first time. Coaches watch closely to see who’s in good shape and who needs work. For plenty of these players, it’s their first big international stage. No one’s worried about the scoreboard yet, so teams get to settle in, shake off nerves, and start playing together without all the pressure.

Australia survived a stern test into the early hours of Sunday morning at the United Cup.

Storm Hunter and John-Patrick Smith rallied past Viktor Durasovic and Ulrikke Eikeri 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 in a deciding mixed doubles to secure Australia’s 2-1 triumph against Norway.

“I’ll tell you what, Storm set it up big time there… I was just on the court, I was participating,” Smith said. “She was returning well, she was moving well. She had really good control on all her shots. It was a great win and a great comeback as well. It’s never easy playing against a good team."

Stephen Corby’s best electric car of 2025: Hyundai Inster

News, reviews and comparisons of electric cars and SUVs from Australia's most trusted experts

Now look, I desperately and deeply wanted to cheat with this nomination, because my best car overall for the year had electric motors and was, in fact, the greatest car in the history of the known universe – the Ferrari F80. But no, strictly it’s not an electric car, it’s a monster munch of a hypercar. Sigh.

My winner, then, comes from the other end of the scale, but before we get to that one I should mention some others that came close – firstly, the huge and hugely unexpectedly good Zeekr 009 posh people mover, which just has no right to be as much fun to drive as it is, even if it does look like a Storm Trooper who tried to shave without taking his helmet off.

Injured Aussie star ruled out of Perth’s Boxing Day blockbuster: BBL Live

Reigning Big Bash champions Hobart have made a red-hot start against the Perth Scorchers in a Boxing Day blockbuster while missing veteran Matt Wade.

The former Hurricanes skipper was injured in his side’s win over the Melbourne Renegades last Sunday and did not travel to Perth as a result.

Big Bash League: Perth Scorchers take on Hobart Hurricanes in Optus Stadium Boxing Day blockbuster

Perth Scorchers have turned to hot prospect paceman Mahli Beardman to replace Jhye Richardson for their Boxing Day blockbuster against Hobart Hurricanes at Optus Stadium.

It comes as the Hurricanes won the toss and elected to field as both teams hunt for their second win of the season.

With Richardson in action for Australian in their fourth Ashes Test against England, Scorchers coach Adam Voges has recalled the 20 year-old to the Scorchers’ pace attack.

Beardman recorded figures of 0-28 from four overs in the Scorchers’ rain-affected opening day win over Sydney Sixers.

After falling victim to the largest-ever successful run chase in Big Bash history last week against Brisbane, the Scorchers will be eager to make amends in front of their home fans.

The 23-year-old Giddey, who hit a dagger shot with less than a minute remaining, finished with 19 points on 8-15 shooting, 11 rebounds and 15 assists.

‘Stop!’ Aussie star’s furious act moments after scary incident — BBL LIVE

Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis has given the Strikers’ Jamie Overton a serve following a nasty moment. The Stars are cruising, 3-128 off 15 overs in response to the Strikers’ 155.

Stoinis dived to his left to stop a ball hit by Overton, with the Strikers taking a single.

Stoinis clearly didn’t like that. He seemed to yell ‘stop’ and an expletive at the batsman as he was injured believing a run shouldn’t have been taken.

BBL SQUAD: Stars add two for trip to Adelaide

The Melbourne Stars have made two changes to their 14-player squad for Tuesday night’s clash with the Adelaide Strikers.

Spinner Hamish McKenzie and seamer Tom Whitney have been included for the trip to Adelaide, with Jonathan Merlo and Aryan Sharma replaced in the squad.

The Stars will be looking to build on their performance in the season opener, where they secured an eight-wicket win over the Hurricanes.

This clash at Adelaide Oval will be the first of a four-game road trip for the Stars, who will then play in Sydney, Canberra (home game) and Brisbane, before returning to the MCG for the Melbourne Derby on January 4.
