Long weekend chaos highlights reality of fuel crisis as Aussies turn to electric cars

Australian drivers determined to beat the rising costs of fuel have instead encountered another problem — increasingly long queues for electric vehicle chargers.

On regional routes busy with travellers over the Easter long weekend, lines formed outside charging stations as drivers waited to recharge midway to their destination.

One motorist on her way from Victoria to the beachside town of Eden on the NSW south coast found herself waiting “for hours” at the Cann River Tesla Supercharger.

The final commitment ceremony for MAFS 2026 aired tonight and everything is on the line.

With the weight of final vows hanging over contestants as they enter the final week of the experiment, this ceremony was the time for couples to finally get serious and tell the truth (because we all know not a lot of that has been going around this season!).

After tonight, it looks like more than one couple are on the rocks. David seems to have finally reached his wits’ end with Alissa, Scott is called “fake” by expert John for being “fearful” of Gia (someone had to say it!), and Danny used the “I’m a s–t boyfriend” excuse to explain his hot and cold attitude to Bec.

Bad Bunny already has the stadium captured with his stoic stare before even singing a note.

That presence — unapologetic, focused and arresting — and the way he breaks into a smile before launching into his discography effortlessly draws us in.

It’s a marathon performance ranging from songs such as La Romana from his first album to hits from his newest release, including …DTMF and BAILE INoLVIDABLE. The addictive reggaeton beats and salsa rhythms keep everyone on their feet.

There are a handful of moments that drag, including a long segment in which he high-fives and shakes hands with fans — much to the delight of those chosen but a bit self-indulgent for those watching on.

Juventus end bad week with 2-0 loss against Como

Juventus blew their chance of climbing into the Champions League places in Serie A as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Como on Saturday.

A win would have lifted Juve above fourth-placed Napoli but, Juventus, thrashed 5-2 at Galatasary in the first leg of the Champions League play-offs in midweek, they had no answer to the ambition of Como who moved one point behind them in sixth.

The visitors, who drew with AC Milan on Wednesday, were in front after just 11 minutes when Juve gave the ball away in midfield.

Anastasios Douvikas collected and played in Mergim Vojvoda on the right.

TURIN, Italy — Juventus’ damaging week continued in Serie A on Saturday with a 2-0 loss at home to Como that dents the Italian power’s hopes of Champions League qualification.

The defeat comes days after the Bianconeri’s 5-2 loss at Galatasaray in the first leg of the playoffs in this season’s Champions League. Juventus welcomes the Turkish team for the second leg on Wednesday.

Mërgim Vojvoda scored early for Como with a shot that Michele Di Gregorio should have saved after getting his arm to ball. The chance came about after Juventus’ Weston McKennie lost the ball in midfield.

    Juventus-Como: Match Preview

After the draw at San Siro against AC Milan on Matchday 24, the Lariani now prepare for another away fixture — this time at the Allianz Stadium against Juventus.

Following their strong response against the Rossoneri after the defeat to ACF Fiorentina, Cesc Fàbregas’ side face a Juventus team eager to react. The Bianconeri have won just one of their last five matches and are looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s 5–2 defeat at Galatasaray.

Currently fifth in Serie A with 46 points, Juventus have improved significantly under Luciano Spalletti. Since his arrival in November, they have lost only three league matches and now boast the second-best attack in the division (43 goals scored) and the sixth-best defence (23 conceded). Saturday’s fixture promises to be an intriguing contest between two proactive sides sitting fifth and sixth in the table.

Following a bruising eight-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe in their tournament opener, Oman have shifted their base from Colombo to Kandy, hoping for a fresh start at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Standing in their way are hosts Sri Lanka, in a critical Group B clash on Thursday.

Despite the pressure of a World Cup, wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla insists the mood in the camp remains upbeat.

"To be honest, it's quite good over here, coming from Colombo to Kandy and I think it's going to be a change of fortune for us and we have a different result from the previous game," Shukla said at a pre-match media briefing on Wednesday. "The mood is pretty light [in the camp], you can't take unnecessary pressure [just] because you are playing against Sri Lanka."

Fresh ATO alcohol tax hike to hit Aussies from today: 'Difficult to wear'

Australian spirit drinkers will face a hit to their hip pockets from this week, following a fresh alcohol tax hike. The tax on alcohol is adjusted in line with inflation twice a year, with the government putting a pause on the excise duty for draught beer for two years.

But this doesn’t extend to those who drink vodka, rum, whisky, gin and other spirits. An Australian Taxation Office (ATO) spokesperson previously told Yahoo Finance excise duty rates were indexed twice a year, usually in February and August, “based on the upward movement of the consumer price index”.

From today, spirits exceeding 10 per cent by volume of alcohol will increase from $105.98 per litre to $107.99 per litre. The tax is usually paid by manufacturers, distillers and importers of spirits, but then gets passed on to hospitality venues and consumers.

Touring their 2024 album Wild God in Australia for the first time, they open with the brooding track Frogs and the eponymous Wild God, an explosive crescendo of high-pitched strings, soaring vocals and pounding percussion.

“I look like I’m dressed as a Mormon,” Nick Cave joked to the thousands of fans gathered at Fremantle Park on Saturday night after catching a glimpse of himself on the big screens.
