Three stars could return for Brisbane clash

Collingwood’s Head of High Performance Jarrod Wade has provided an injury and health update ahead of Collingwood’s Round 24 match against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Friday night.

Isaac Quaynor sustained a minor glute injury in Saturday’s game against Hawthorn. He will miss Collingwood’s Round 24 game against Brisbane and is expected to be available for selection for finals.

Jeremy Howe has progressed well through his rehabilitation following a fractured arm. His availability for selection will be assessed following main training on Wednesday.

Brayden Maynard has progressed well through his rehabilitation following a minor procedure to his pes anserinus. His availability for selection will be assessed following main training on Wednesday.

Reality of Cats’ next free agent win we’re all ignoring; ‘smoke and mirrors’ issue in AFL debate

You can’t have an honest debate about resting players when the AFL can’t even tell fans who’s actually injured.

The AFL’s inaugural Wildcard round has created the perfect storm for resting players. Collingwood this weekend should have the right to manipulate and manage workloads as it sees fit, while it’d be in the best interest of minor premiers Fremantle – which has nothing to play for against Carlton – to sit a few players who need a week off.

Collingwood will be without defender Isaac Quaynor for their clash with Brisbane, while Pat Lipinski and Harry Perryman have been held back for another week.

Locked into a wildcard spot, the Magpies face a dilemma about how they approach Friday night's clash with the Lions at the MCG.

Due to finishing in the seventh to 10th bracket, Collingwood don't earn a week off heading into finals and will need to carefully manage their players this weekend.

More than 1,500 Brisbane children listed as experiencing homelessness

Of the families recorded by Brisbane Zero, 321 identified as being homeless for the first time. (ABC News: Patrick Rocca)

New data from Brisbane Zero shows last financial year there were 984 families, including 1,539 children, who were identified by name as experiencing homelessness in the city.

The snapshot is used to understand the scale of homelessness in Brisbane, and to recommend ways to improve the situation.

Caitlyn Wheatley, a youth ambassador with the Foyer Foundation, reminded people to remember that a person sleeping rough is "someone's someone".

More than 70 per cent of families listed by name as experiencing homelessness in Brisbane last year had a single mother as the sole parent, new data shows.

Simple census blunder could see you slapped with hefty fines

The census is less than a week away and many Australians are still unsure about when and how they must complete the compulsory national survey.

It could lead some to commit a costly blunder by failing to fill out the census, or providing false information.

Census night falls on Tuesday, August 11 and most households will complete the census online.

     The Age

The census is mandatory and anyone in Australia who does not fill it out on or by Tuesday, August 11 risks being fined up to $364 a day.

You still have to do the census if you are travelling or away from home on census night, but Australians who are overseas on August 11 don’t need to complete it.

A Brisbane woman has given birth to identical quadruplet daughters in what doctors have described as one of the rarest births in the world.

Jenitar Na'amoana and her partner Jortham's four babies were delivered by caesarean at 28 weeks and four days gestation last week at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Emily, Harriet, Alexa, and Catherine are healthy but are being cared for in a neonatal intensive care unit.

An Australian woman has given birth to naturally conceived identical quadruplet daughters, all sharing the one placenta and split from a singular fertilised egg in one of the few known cases of its kind in the world.

Rare identical quadruplets born in Australia

An Australian woman has given birth to rare, naturally-conceived identical quadruplets after a pregnancy described as "extremely high risk" by the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

The four girls, who were delivered via caesarean section at 28 weeks and four days on 14 July, were monozygotic quadruplets – where a single fertilised egg splits into four embryos.

The hospital said the girls' mother, 34-year-old Jenitar Na'amoana, and her husband Jortham, already had four children and were taken by "immense surprise" when told to expect quadruplets.

Dr Alexa Bendall, who cared for the mother from the start of her pregnancy, estimated identical quadruplets occur "at one in every 15 million pregnancies" and said "but to share the same placenta – this is unheard of".

When The Lion King first played in Brisbane in 2014, it broke the record for the number of tickets sold in a single day.

“They said there was nothing like it in QPAC’s history, that kind of absolute bedlam,” she said.

Brisbane Airport flight paths altered following noise review

Airservices Australia has announced new flight paths for Brisbane following a review process. (Supplied: Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade)

Major changes to flight paths at Brisbane Airport have been announced, meaning 140,000 residents will notice less planes flying overhead.

Airservices Australia released the next stage of the noise action plan following community consultation and an investigation into the impacts of aircraft noise.

The changes to the flight paths at Brisbane airport are here to stay, even in the lead up to the 2032 Olympic Games.

Almost 140,000 residents will notice less planes flying overhead after Airservices Australia announced major changes to flight paths at Brisbane Airport.

The areas new Brisbane flight paths will avoid

The outcome of a long and heated investigation into flight paths over Brisbane and the surrounding area has been revealed, with four key changes to reduce noise pollution for nearly 140,000 residents.

Airservices Australia, the federal government-owned organisation in charge of the nation’s airspace, released its final determination on Thursday, which will shift arrival paths further north to avoid about 59,000 people.

On the southern end, flight departures will be shifted further east, which will reduce the number of residents impacted by overhead noise by about 44,500.

New aviation rules that allow planes to land side-by-side on two runways at the same time, known as Independent Parallel Runway Operations (IPRO), will also reduce noise pollution for about 35,000 residents, according to Airservices Australia.

Brisbane's Lang Park to undergo largest upgrade in 23 years

The LNP has announced a massive upgrade to Lang Park stadium, including an increase in capacity, a wraparound LED video screen, new terrace viewing platforms and entertainment zones.

Design work has begun on the stadium, which once complete will be open for tender with construction expected to begin towards the end of the year.

The LNP government has announced plans for the largest upgrade to Lang Park in its 23 years, featuring greater capacity, wraparound screens, and new entertainment zones ahead of next week's budget.

The upgrades, which will be paid for through the Queensland government's Legacy Fund, will include supersized scoreboards, a 360-degree wraparound LED ribbon board suspended from the roof, and two tennis court-sized media mesh screens.

Lang Park upgrade: Big screens, 1000 more seats in time for Rugby World Cup

Lang Park will be getting huge new screens, plus an LED ribbon screen that wraps around the entire stadium’s interior, plus at least 1000 new seats for fans to see them from.

The Queensland government announced the upgrade just hours before the second game in the men’s State of Origin series was due to kick off in Melbourne.

It’s screen-mania, with two exterior mesh screens, both the size of two tennis courts, to be draped from the stadium for fans to see as they approach.

Terraced spaces with seating and standing room will also be added behind the goals at each end, replacing the old screens.

Hundreds of commuters experienced long waits for rail buses across Brisbane this morning.

Buses replaced trains between Northgate and Bowen Hills, and Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road.

Commuters in Brisbane have vented their frustration after experiencing long waits for bus replacement services at a number of train stations.

There have been numerous track closures across Brisbane's rail network since April 10 due to a mix of major track works and ongoing industrial disputes.

This morning buses replaced trains between Northgate and Bowen Hills, north of the city, and between Boggo Road and the Gold Coast's Varsity Lakes.

‘Terrible planning’: Train commuters face another week of delays

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

Hundreds of Brisbane commuters have been left queueing on suburban streets while waiting for buses, as scheduled rail closures bring further delays to popular public transport routes.

Brisbane commuters were warned of disrupted travel earlier this month, with key rail lines across the city to be closed until the end of April for maintenance.

Queensland Rail said this had been extended by at least four days because of an industrial dispute.

On Monday morning, commuters on Brisbane’s northside expressed frustration at poor planning to mitigate the effect of rail line closures, with complaints of inadequate bus services and lengthy waits.

Brisbane Roar Vs Wellington Phoenix: ‘Must-win game’ for Brisbane Roar as Phoenix pivot from vulnerability to clean-sheet focus

Three away matches, one recent clean sheet and a shared league position turn brisbane roar vs wellington phoenix into a fixture that could reframe the final weeks of the season. The run of three consecutive away games begins with a trip to Brisbane, followed by an international break next week, and the tie is being treated as a crucial contest by the visiting side.

The preview material lays out momentum and confidence from the Wellington Phoenix camp but leaves several operational questions unanswered. Public detail on the Brisbane Roar response to a match billed as a ‘must-win game’ is absent. Specific squad availability, tactical adjustments from either coaching staff and the exact implications of the equal points standing are not provided in the available statements. Those gaps matter when a match is described as an “old-fashioned six pointer” and when fixture timing may affect performance.

Brisbane’s beloved Kookaburra Queen paddleboat faces uncertain future after sinking

Weddings, Mother’s Day celebrations, birthdays… if you’ve grown up in Brisbane, chances are you’ve marked a milestone aboard one of the Kookaburra Queen paddleboats — and now, one of these beloved vessels has been spotted sinking in the shallows.

There were originally two nearly identical vessels, built more than four decades ago for World Expo ’88.

The paddleboats, nicknamed the ‘Kookas’, closely resembled classic Mississippi River steamers in the US, with timber hulls, iconic paddlewheels and sweeping decks.

Henshall injury clouds Duke Jr comeback

The return of David Duke Jr gives the Perth Wildcats a timely boost in their push toward the championship, though an injury to rising young talent Ben Henshall has tempered some of that excitement.

The club confirmed on Friday that Henshall will miss the clash with the Brisbane Bullets due to an ankle injury and will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Sydney.

In Duke Jr’s absence, Henshall and Elijah Pepper have stepped up impressively. The young guard has hit double-figure scoring in seven straight games, lifting his output when the Wildcats have needed it most.

Duke Jr will suit up for the first time since December 28 after recovering from an elbow injury, while Sunday Dech also returns from illness for the must-win contest at RAC Arena.

Perth Wildcats import David Duke in line for NBL return against Brisbane Bullets after training strongly

Perth Wildcats import David Duke junior only has to get through the rest of the week unscathed to return from a long-term elbow injury after training the house down on Wednesday morning.

Duke hasn’t played since injuring his elbow on December 28 but re-entered training last week and has spent all of this week building his fitness and confidence.

Duke did everything he could have hoped for during training on Wednesday morning. He ran the floor as a point-guard, pushed through traffic to get to the rim, defended strongly, made three-pointers and didn’t appear fatigued.

Coach John Rillie said he would play against Brisbane at RAC Arena on Friday if nothing goes wrong between now and then.
