Exit Signs or Just Decorations? Chaos at Brisbane International Airport Raises Serious Safety Concerns

Passengers travelling through Brisbane International Airport were left confused and alarmed on Tuesday, 13 January, after a fire alarm sounded inside the international terminal, triggering flight delays and widespread disruption. While the alarm itself was eventually understood to be minor, the airport’s response exposed a far more serious issue: a troubling lack of preparedness and staff training during emergency situations.

As the alarm rang, passengers did what any reasonable person would do in a potential emergency — they looked for the nearest clearly marked exit. One such exit, prominently indicated with a green emergency sign, was located at a terminal departure gate. Several passengers attempted to use this exit, only to be stopped by a security staff member who insisted it was not to be used.

Hijikata, the world No.111, did not lose a service game in the second-round match as Mpetshi Perricard won the key tiebreak points in his 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-4) win.

There are now no Australians left in the tournament which moves into the quarter-final phase in both the men's and women's sections.

Heartbreak for Aussie cult hero Rinky Hijikata in three-set 'arm wrestle' with rising star

Rinky Hijikata has gone down in an absolute thriller at the Brisbane International, losing two tiebreaks in a three-set loss to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

The 24-year-old cult hero was up to the task against the Frenchman, who came into the clash more than 40 spots higher than the Australian on the ATP rankings.

But it was rising star Mpetshi Perricard who walked away with the 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) victory and put an end to Hijikata's time at the tournament.

Three-time Australian Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev has credited his new coaches for a serving masterclass that carried him through to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International.

The Russian world No.13 was untouchable with his service game in a 6-3 6-2 second-round win over Frances Tiafoe on Wednesday.

The 2021 US Open champion has his sights on elusive Melbourne Park grand slam triumph and said 2002 Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, who mentored Richard Krajicek to Wimbledon glory in 1996, had taken his serve to another level.

A contrite Daniil Medvedev says he should never repeat his racquet rampage from last year’s Australian Open that damaged a net camera and contributed to an extraordinary $122,000 worth of fines.

The Russian firebrand, who rounded back into form late last year following an extended slump, was in a good mood after breezing past Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 6-2, 6-3 in an impressive start to the new tennis season at the Brisbane International on Monday night.

ATP Brisbane: Daniił Miedwiediew – Kamil Majchrzak [RELACJA NA ŻYWO]

Daniił Miedwiediew – Kamil Majchrzak to spotkanie w ćwierćfinale turnieju ATP w Brisbane.

11.30 czasu polskiego.

Asem serwisowym kończy gema Daniił Miedwiediew! Znowu remis w pierwszym secie

Trzy tie-breaki i trzy piłki meczowe!

The Brisbane Heat have maintained their squad for tomorrow night’s KFC Big Bash League clash with the Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba.

The Heat have added left-arm paceman Oli Patterson to their squad of 14, after he missed Brisbane's loss to the Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval in Canberra earlier this week.

The Heat’s last Gabba match was the memorable record-breaking victory over the Perth Scorchers last week when the home side successfully completed a record run-chase.

Tomorrow night’s game features the return of former Brisbane Heat frontman Chris Lynn, now with the Strikers.

Paceman Xavier Bartlett will again captain the side after taking over from the injured Nathan McSweeney (ankle) against the Thunder.

Strikers make one change to squad traveling to Brisbane

The Adelaide Strikers have named their 13-man squad to face the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on December 27.

Harry Manenti retains his place in the squad alongside fellow local replacement player Jerrssis Wadia, who made his debut last match.

After an impressive victory in the season opener vs the Sixers, the Strikers fell short against the Stars in their second game.

Skipper Matt Short made his first fifty of the competition, while Hassan Ali claimed two scalps, but the Stars sealed a six-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare.

Alex Ross drops out of the travelling party as the sole change.

ST-W vs BH-W, WBBL|11 Match Prediction: Who will win today’s game between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat?

Sydney Thunder Women will host Brisbane Heat Women in the 35th match of the Women’s Big Bash League 2025 at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney, on December 3, with Thunder holding a slight edge as the higher-ranked side desperate for points.

Sydney Thunder sit seventh on the points table with 2 wins, 5 losses, and 1 no-result from 8 games (NRR -0.520), coming off a six-wicket defeat to Sydney Sixers where Heather Knight top-scored with 65 off 47. Brisbane Heat languish at the bottom with 0 wins, 7 losses, and 1 no-result (NRR -0.911), losing their last outing by six wickets to Adelaide Strikers after posting 149/9, led by Nadine de Klerk‘s 25 off 13.

WBBL 2025 Match 35 – Preview Insights, Stats and AI Predictive Form Guide – Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat – December 3

The Sydney Thunder are officially out of the tournament now, with five losses after eight games, and just five points on the board so far, it has been a struggle for the Thunder.

Their leading batters have been Heather Knight and Tahlia Wilson while Phoebe Litchfield has been the most aggressive of them. Her bowling has been led by Shabnim Ismail and has been supported by Chamari Athapaththu and Samantha Bates.

The other side to have struggled, the Brisbane Heat are at the risk of being the first team that has gone winless through the season, a fortune they would like to change.
