Auckland FC v Melbourne City: Auckland take lead over defending champions

Live updates of the A-League clash between Auckland FC and defending champions Melbourne City.

Auckland FC see the return of striker Sam Cosgrove who missed last week’s derby win over the Phoenix. Steve Corica’s side go into the round four points back from leaders Newcastle, while Melbourne City are outside the playoff spots in eighth.

The teams last met on January 16 at AAMI Park with Melbourne City FC winning 2-1 while the round one clash was a 0-0 draw.

The project’s name marks the 50 years when women were banned from football in NZ.

Squads named for Auckland FC’s A-League match against Melbourne City

Striker Sam Cosgrove will return to the Auckland FC line-up for Saturday’s men’s A-League match against Melbourne City.

Cosgrove completed a one-match suspension last weekend and has been named in Auckland FC’s squad for the game at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart.

Head coach Steve Corica has also named several players in the provisional squad who were previously under injury clouds.

All Whites defender Nando Pijnaker has been included in the squad but missed the derby against Wellington Phoenix after rolling an ankle in training. Corica said after the derby that Pijnaker could be out for two or three games.

Norwich are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after a well deserved win over West Brom.

Man City 2-0 Salford City (15 Feb, 2026) Game Analysis

Manchester City reached the fifth round of the FA Cup with a far-from-convincing 2-0 win over League Two side Salford on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side thrashed their neighbours 8-0 last season but needed an early own goal from Alfie Dorrington and a late effort from Marc Guéhi to prevail on this occasion at the Etihad Stadium.

Yet City, who made nine changes for the tie, did not need to be anywhere near their best.

Dorrington's unfortunate sixth-minute intervention robbed the contest of a lot of its intensity and City effectively went through the motions thereafter.

That did allow Salford to settle and former Liverpool midfielder Ben Woodburn forced a fine save from James Trafford before the interval.

'Who are ya?! Who are ya?!' – Man City boss Pep Guardiola hilariously explains the unique reason he 'loves' the FA Cup ahead of Salford City showdown

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed just why he loves the FA Cup as he prepares to face League Two side Salford City in the fourth round of the competition on Saturday. The 55-year-old, who has won the competition twice with Manchester City, has revealed he 'loves' the atmosphere generated by fans of lower-league clubs and the chants that fill their stadiums.

City welcome League Two's Salford to the Etihad Stadium as the two teams face each other for the second consecutive season in the FA Cup. Guardiola's men romped to an 8-0 win over Salford in the third round of the competition last season and would surely love a similar result on Saturday afternoon. Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola has revealed his love for the FA Cup and revealed just what makes the competition so special for him.

45+2 min: Bernardo Silva has been the best player on the pitch by a distance.

45 min: Two minutes added on. Manchester City have certainly had the better of the half, registering 10 shots. Liverpool have not faced more than that in any first half this season.

44 min: Liverpool claim for a penalty! From the resulting free-kick, Ekitike meets the cross, nodding back across goal. At the back post, Salah flails and falls to the ground, with Bernardo Silva looking a little guilty. Replays show that the Portuguese briefly had a hold of Salah’s shirt, but there wasn’t enough in it for a foul.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot explains how his side are planning for life post Virgil van Dijk with signings like Jeremy Jacquet. (2:07)

A blockbuster clash is in store at Anfield on Sunday with Arne Slot's Liverpool hosting Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. The two teams are not in a direct title race, as has been the case over the last few years, but it's a match with plenty of talking points and the result can have lasting repercussions for the remainder of the season.

Both teams have not been in great form, winning just once in the last six games in the league. Manchester City cannot afford to drop more points as they are in the title tussle with leaders Arsenal while Liverpool will need the victory to bolster their chances of securing a top four spot.

Virgil van Dijk previews Liverpool v Man City: 'This game needs no introduction'

Virgil van Dijk knows Liverpool must produce another strong Anfield performance in order to beat Manchester City.

The Reds captain is well versed in the sides’ on-pitch rivalry ahead of its latest instalment on Sunday afternoon.

Name me a more Spursy half of football. My email inbox is open.

A feeble half of football from the hosts who are already staring at their 10th league defeat of the season – and it’s only just February. City deservedly lead and Spurs’ players trudge off the pitch to a chorus of boos. Well, kind of. Even the boos are halfhearted.

45 mins + 2: Manchester City have not had to be anywhere near their best to lead 2-0 in this game. They’ve actually been a bit scruffy on the ball at times. Pep Guardiola will probably feel his team have another gear or two to reach.

Team news | Thomas Frank ‘hopeful’ on Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke ‘ready to start’ against City

Thomas Frank has reiterated that Micky van de Ven’s injury is ‘minor’ and declared the centre-back ‘touch and go’ to face Manchester City on Sunday (4.30pm UK).

A goalscorer at Burnley last weekend, Micky missed our midweek trip to Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League with the issue, Joao Palhinha stepped into the back three alongside Cuti Romero and Kevin Danso.

Asked for the latest on Micky at his pre-City press conference at Hotspur Way on Friday afternoon, Thomas responded: “Micky is a minor one. He will be touch and go for Sunday. We're hoping. He was on the pitch yesterday, on the pitch today. So, hopeful for that, but it's touch and go.”

Tottenham vs. Man City: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Two members of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ lock horns on Sunday afternoon when Tottenham Hotspur welcome Manchester City to the capital.

The upcoming battle provides a rare occasion in which the entirety of north London will be rooting for Spurs, with Arsenal supporters desperate to see Man City drop more points in the race for the Premier League title. The Cityzens, meanwhile, will be seeking to keep firmly on Arsenal’s tail.

City have responded to disastrous defeats to Manchester United and Bodø/Glimt by securing successive victories to nil, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers and Galatasaray to lift spirits. However, Pep Guardiola’s men can ill-afford many more slip-ups if they’re to pip the Gunners to another crown.

Coventry City 2-1 Millwall: Haji Wright scores winner for Sky Blues

Haji Wright was Coventry City's goalscoring hero once again as his late winner against Millwall stretched the Sky Blues' lead at the top of the Championship to eight points.

Wright netted his 10th league goal of the season 12 minutes from time after he bagged an 85th-minute winner against Leicester on Saturday.

The USA forward's strike was tough on Millwall and Alex Neil's side showed enormous fight to level through Mihailo Ivanovic.

On-loan Crystal Palace winger Romain Esse had given Coventry the lead with his first goal for the Sky Blues against his old club.

Following a brief wobble after Christmas where they only got one point from three matches, Frank Lampard's side have now picked up back-to-back wins and hold a nine-point buffer to third-placed Middlesbrough.

Championship leaders Coventry City host promotion hunters Millwall at the CBS Arena on Tuesday evening.

The Sky Blues ended a four-game winless run by beating Midlands rivals Leicester City on Saturday to keep their six-point lead at the top of the second tier.

Frank Lampard's side must now look to kick on as they chase automatic promotion and a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

The visitors share the same aspirations and are three points back from second-place Middlesbrough after they claimed their third win in four Championship games against Watford on the weekend.

Bodo/Glimt vs. Man City: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Manchester City visit the Arctic Circle on the penultimate matchday of their league phase campaign, as they take on Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday evening.

The Cityzens make the trip off the back of a resounding defeat in the Manchester derby, during which they recorded just one shot on target and their second-lowest expected goals haul since Guardiola took charge almost a decade ago.

They’re now seven points back in the title race and winless in four in the league.

However, Guardiola’s men are well placed in the Champions League. A win on Tuesday will secure their spot in the round of 16, having amassed 13 points from their opening six games. They beat Real Madrid 2–1 last time out.

Can January signings play in the Champions League?

Players signed in the January transfer window will not be available to play in the Champions League until after the league phase of the competition.

Clubs can only register a maximum of three new players to their squad once the league phase is over by the deadline of Thursday, 5 February.

The same rules also apply in the Europa League and Conference League.

Competing Champions League teams still have two league phase games left before the knockout rounds begin in February.

It means Manchester City will be without Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi for Tuesday's trip to Bodo/Glimt and their final league phase match against Turkish side Galatasaray.

Manchester United kick off the new Michael Carrick-era with the small matter of the Manchester derby as Arsenal-chasing Manchester City arrive at Old Trafford looking to keep up the pressure on the Premier League table toppers. You can follow it all live, right here with ESPN (the blog will appear below the short preview text).

The last time Michael Carrick took charge of Man United, they beat Villarreal, drew Chelsea and beat Arsenal but that was four and some years ago, and what's ahead of him is a whole different proposition. United are coming off the disastrous reign of Ruben Amorim and find themselves out of both EFL and FA Cups and need a proper top 4 challenge to salvage the season. On contract only till this summer, Carrick's task is multifold: help with that challenge, lift the mood at Old Trafford, and integrate United's academy players into the senior team in a way Amorim never did. He was often accused of tactical inflexibility at Middlesborough — where he started brightly before fading towards the end — and he'll be keen to redress that at a club that, as Amorim found out, demands at least a certain degree of flexibility.

In 2016, one economist tipped Sydney would thrive on the back of a finance boom. Now he expects the next decade to be different.

Sydney, the nation’s economic engine room, has always had a beating heart: the CBD. But by 2036, one of the most noticeable shifts might not be the types of jobs, but where they are located, according to KPMG economist Terry Rawnsley.

Sydney high schools need to find room for 22,000 more students in the next decade. Where?

In 2016, the Herald forecast the inner-city student population would explode. This is what really happened – and what needs to happen next.

The world of schools and education loves a fad. In the past decade, it has seen plenty: from construction of architecturally impressive new schools with open-plan classrooms to project-based learning to boost “21st century” skills.

But the world of education is sobering up from the cascade of gurus, trends and shiny bright new things of recent years, says Catholic Schools NSW chief executive Dallas McInerney, who oversees almost 600 schools.

He says educators now recognise that it might appear old-fashioned to have students sitting in rows facing a teacher at the front of the room – but it is an incredibly effective way to learn.

The cause? The opening of Sydney’s south-west and west metro rail lines.

“That big transport infrastructure over the next 10 years is going to really reshape how Sydney functions as an economic entity,” Rawnsley says, predicting concentration of the labour market in a singular business district will be dispersed over several centres of economic activity.

Cheltenham Town 0-2 Leicester City: Daka scores first FA Cup goal to help Foxes into fourth round

Patson Daka's goal against Cheltenham was his second of the season for Leicester

Patson Daka scored his first FA Cup goal to help Leicester City ease past League Two side Cheltenham Town and into the fourth round.

The Zambia striker joined the Foxes after the club won the competition in 2021, and it has taken him eight appearances across five campaigns to open his account in the cup.

He found the bottom corner for Leicester's opener against the fourth-tier Robins before Stephy Mavididi made it two with a fine solo effort just before the break.

A chipped attempt from Jordan Thomas demanded the intervention of Foxes goalkeeper Asmir Begovic early in the second half but the Championship club kept control to see out a comfortable win against a side 54 places below them in the English football pyramid.

Preview: Cheltenham Town vs. Leicester City – prediction, team news, lineups

Both looking to move one step closer to an unlikely piece of silverware this season, Cheltenham Town and Leicester City meet in the FA Cup third round on Saturday afternoon.

The Robins picked up a much-needed win in League Two last time out, while the Foxes are attempting to make up lost ground in the Championship promotion race.

After a three-year spell in the third tier of English football came to an end at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, Cheltenham Town have been languishing in the middle of League Two, with another term of mid-table mediocrity on the cards.

Marti Cifuentes impressed by Leicester’s energy and desire in win at Cheltenham

Marti Cifuentes praised Leicester’s ‘energy and desire’ as they negotiated their FA Cup third round test at Cheltenham, winning 2-0.

The Foxes boss made eight changes to his line-up after their 2-1 Championship victory over West Brom on Monday and first-half goals from Patson Daka and Stephy Mavididi were enough to see off the challenge of the League Two hosts.

Cifuentes explained: “I’m pleased with the guys, especially with the changes.

“The FA Cup is a beautiful competition and we want to go as far as possible but it was also important to build confidence ahead of our game against Coventry.

Wonderful pass from Scott plays in Jiminez just before the half-time break. The Bournemouth man never looked convincing as he advanced on goal and Ramsdale shuts him down. That was a big chance. Bournemouth looking very tired but still creating chances.

Woltemade slips in Barnes again, the winger looks offside but the pass just gets away from him. We’ll have a couple of minutes more for injuries after Thiaw got some treatment.

Manchester City player ratings vs Exeter City: Antoine Semenyo is up and running! £65m signing scores and assists as Pep Guardiola's youthful side score TEN in incredible FA Cup rout

Manchester City opened up their FA Cup campaign with a barely believable 10-1 victory over Exeter City in the third round on Saturday. Antoine Semenyo scored and assisted on his debut for the Cityzens, while youngster Max Alleyne also netted his first goal for the club, as Pep Guardiola's side swept aside their League One opponents at the Etihad Stadium.

In the first-ever meeting between the two sides, Exeter were almost in dreamland when defender Ed Turns rose highest inside the penalty area, but his header was well-saved by City’s cup goalkeeper James Trafford after five minutes.

After overcoming the scare, City soon took the lead when centre-back Alleyne, who only made his debut for the club in Wednesday’s Premier League draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, bundled the ball home after a goalmouth scramble just seven minutes later.
