Corruption probe into Andrews-era firefighters negotiations handed down

A long-running IBAC investigation has found United Firefighters Union secretary Peter Marshall exerted extraordinary influence in pay negotiations with the Andrews government.
The report stopped short of making any findings of corrupt conduct, instead warning such behaviour raised the risk of corruption.

In April 2016, the firefightersâ union leader, Peter Marshall, walked into the Victorian premierâs office at 1 Treasury Place carrying what appeared to be a breakthrough: a union âproposalâ that promised to end one of the stateâs most bitter industrial disputes.
When questioned years later by Victoriaâs anti-corruption watchdog, then premier Daniel Andrews said the duo didnât discuss its substance.
âIt was to give, if you like, an assurance that we were fair dinkum, that we were genuine, that we were good faith actors,â Andrews said of the meeting.
